2012 RT Cruise Control Problems

Greetings, all.

So I bought my RT in the late Fall of last year and have been enjoying rolling off miles ever since. Here in Utah, winter riding is superior because there are (a) no bugs, (b) minimal traffic, and (c) no bugs. Did I mention the lack of bugs?

Anyway, so long as the highways are dry, I ride, even if there's snow piled high on both sides of the pavement.

I explain this in case what I'm about to describe might be in some way related to bitter-cold temperatures.

I use my cruise control a LOT and it's worked perfectly for thousands of miles now.

Then, about two weeks ago, if I pressed the control switch down (while the unit is "ON"), the display changed to "SET" but, just as soon as I took my finger off of the switch, it reverted to "ON" and, no matter how many times I pressed the switch down to SET it, it would only remain SET as long as I was pressing down on the switch.

I tried pulling the switch up to RESUME but that didn't make any difference.

I also tried shutting the unit down and restarting it, then trying to set the cruise but the same thing happened...SOME of the time. In other cases, resetting it like that would allow me to SET the unit normally.

But other times, even if I left the unit OFF for a period of time, I wouldn't be able to get it to SET.

So, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Has anyone experienced this and figured out how to eliminate the intermittency so the unit will work dependably?

My local dealer mech, who is supremely competent in everything else, has never heard of this problem.

BTW, I've checked and my right foot isn't anywhere near the brake pedal so I'm not inadvertently keeping the unit from working by applying brakes.

Whatchathink, gurus?

Thanks!

A little late in answering but I went on a 70 mile ride today in 30 degree temps and used the cruise control with no issues. It set the first time every time so I don't think the temp had anything to do with it. The cruise is controlled through the CANBUS system. It sounds like the switch is not sending the data to the network. You might need a new switch but may only need to get BUDS to update the system. Sometimes the updates help refresh the system I gets things working again.
