I note that lots of people wire their toys (GPS, Phone, Heated Grips) to the switched & non-switched fuses in the front fuse box. Just need a 3A fuse. However, where is the active end of each of these circuits located? I can see the power going in and a lead going out (purple/yellow for switched) but cannot find the other end. Can someone help me on this? Thanks.

Dicko,

I have found the non switched terminal end (purple with an orange stripe). It is located just beneath the headlights. It is a white terminal plug with the purple with orange stripe and black wires mounted horizontally dead center below the head lights. It can be seen after the dust cover above the trunk is removed. This can be seen standing to the left or right of the bike with out any extra effort. There are three wire connections mounted there. The top one and bottom are a multiple wire connector with wires on both sides of the connections. The middle one only has two wires going to one side. Pop it loose from the frame and press in on the center release and the white female connector releases from the male black connector. The white side does not have wires installed. You will need part number 409012900 male terminal pins to add to the wires from your device. These pins seat into the white connector. Note the side the purple wire is in on the black connector and set the red or positive wire in the same side on the white connector. Press them back together install a 3 amp fuse in the non switched slot in the fuse box.

I have found another wire connection located on the top of the left (drivers side if this were a car) shock mount. The wires are wire tied to the shock mount. I have seen in another post people are using this for installing a power outlet in the trunk. I have located it but have not tested it to see if it is the switched circuit with the purple and yellow stripe wire. The connection looks like it uses standard spade wire connectors. Key word search 12volt outlet and you should be able to find some photos of this.

If you want photos of what I have found send me a personal note. I tried to upload some photos but the files are more than the 125 kb limit. I do not know how to reduce the file size for uploading. I found the attached photo on the web. It shows the location of the non switched white two wire terminal connector.

Please note if you have previously read this topic I corrected the part number for the male terminal pins in the post. The edited part number of 409012900 is the correct part number. You will need two pins. Don't forget the dust boot I am sorry I do not have this part number

I have confirmed the accessory fuse labeled "switched", the purple with yellow stripe, terminates at the top of the left side shock mount. It is wire tied to the shock mount and the wire going to the horn. I visually confirmed the color of the wire and place a 3 amp fuse in the switched accessory slot and read 12 volts with the switch on and turned the switch off and lost power. Turned the switch back on and read 12 volts then removed the fuse and lost power. This connection requires two standard automotive spade connectors coming from the device wire from which you are trying to connect. The wiring diagram from BRP has this connection listed as 12v power outlet.

The wires with the terminal ends installed are showing the terminal pins that need to ordered. The white terminal mount was removed from the bike and the terminal pins were installed into it. Then it just plug it back where it was removed. Install the 3 amp fuse in the non switched slot in the fuse block.

Thanks for that info. I'll finally be getting back to my Spyder wiring next week. Been busy wiring a GPS, trailer hitch, and some power outlets on my Roadstar then going off on two road trips trying it all out. Now to do same with the Spyder.

Success.

Found the non-switched outlet and wired in my Garmin Zumo. Easy to find once it was pointed out to me. Thanks Out of Ramge.

Found the switched outlet but I managed to pull it out of where it was secured ready to add a socket in the trunk. However since I was going to add switched power on the handle-bars, not necessarily a bad thing.

Also, I note that I have a 10Amp circuit active, fused & wired in for fog lights. As I don't have fog lights, I'm thinking of redirecting (or tapping into) for use for heated grips as it's also switched. The Australian model's fog lights are actually high-beam and are part of the lighting circuit.
