I have been looking for a winch for my quad, and am finding out that there are so many different options, and you can pay anywhere from $100.00 to $600.00 for a quad winch. But, do you really get what you pay for? Or are you just paying for a name? Just yesterday I saw, on E-Bay, somebody selling complete winch kits for my quad, made by some company called Venom, and I could buy a complete 2500 lb. winch with switches and relays for less than $150.00. I look in my handy-dandy DK catalog, and see that buying a Warn 2500 lb. winch is going to run me about $400.00. On the shelf at the local Wally World I see ATV winches (2000 lb.) for $85.00. What gives?

What are your experiences with winches, what size do you use, what brand do you use, and how would you rate it for performance/longevity?

All I have ever had is 2 warn 2500 and they were great winches. I had tear the one apart and rebuild it because I let a tie rod come loose and didn't replace it and used it anyways and it got mud stuck in it so I tore it apart and regreased it and it worked great. I have some friends that have the venom 3000 on their rhino's and say they are ok, but then again he rarely uses his winch I guess it depends on how much you use them I doubt the cheap one's are as good as the high dollar one's but I am sure to some extent you are certainly paying more for the name.

I bought a Viper brand winch for my 400 last year, and have had 0 problems with it. it has a 3000lb capacity, 30ft cable(50ft is available), and I paid 125$ U.S. for it, which included the mounting bracket for the Outlander 400. Very easy to install, and fits in the quad perftectly.
