Just venting cause I'm tired of waiting

First I would like to say hello to all of you here on this forum. This seems like a good place to learn more about the Spyder. I am sure once released this forum will be filled with valuable information.

I saw pictures of the Spyder way back in October of '06 and knew I wanted one just from the pics. I placed my order in Feb '07 and I am the first one on my dealer's list for the first batch. I was able to get a test ride for about 15 minutes and was sold even more on the bike. I wish the demo ride was longer like the one some of you had but hey, what ya gonna do

Anyway, my issue is this. With so many of us plopping down $$ that we cannot have refunded you would think BRP would at least give us production dates. I've ordered several cars, Harley's and even furniture and the manufacture was always able to give me a production date. In fact, when I ordered my Mini Cooper not only did I get a production date and number, I received a website where I could track the car throughout the process. I even received emails from MINI USA every 3 to 6 six weeks with and update.

I have called my dealer several times over the last few months and I all I would receive is the same old "I believe it will be here in September." Now today I call my dealer only to hear;

"I was told that they are running behind schedule. Your Spyder might not make it here in September or October; you will more than likely see it in November"

Of course I was not happy to hear that bit of news. If anyone of you has inside scoops you could share please do. I knew going into this that I would have a long wait on my hands but it would be great if we could get some idea of what is happening.

violator,

Thanks for responding it seems like each dealer has a different date. That's why I feel that BRP should at least provide production dates.

I'm right there with you. This whole waiting and not knowing thing really does suck!!!! You are not going to get a straight answer from your dealer or BRP directly. The dealer really does not know when they will arrive despite what they may tell you and BRP is not about to commit to any kind of time table. The ONLY option is to wait.
Kinda like me waiting for snow.

I called BRP to ask about the VIN vs delivery date and this is the email I recvd.

"Mark,

In response to your phone call, please note that your VIN and order of delivery are not linked.
Your dealer is the best to let you know when your unit will be delivered.

Best Regard,"
I too am sick of waiting, I put my deposit down in February, My dealer has no info, BRP keeps them in the dark as they do us. The spyder is the coolest thing I've ever ridden but I wish I never started this thing with BRP, I lost most respect for them, I believe they can give us a production date and just don't. I don't get it, they have a large investment here, if they sour us, the ones that bought, the whole project could toilet. I mean face it, the spyder is cool but for $15,000 so are many other bikes. If I didn't have a bike to ride while waiting I would sell out. My dealer has been the best, I really believe BRP is keeping everyone in the dark and this alone would put a stop to future purchases from them. I like to be informed and I don't mind waiting if I know what's going on. I hope BRP is checking in on this site and has some sort of response. I've been riding for more years than most BRP employees have been breathing, I will give the spyder more exposure then the demo program has and ever could, I ride every day, everywhere, those that know me generally buy on my recommendation, I like the engineering ideas at BRP but there way of doing business sucks, I would go elswhere if I had to start over. How's that for a vent? I do mean what I said.
This is a question you can ask them this Sunday's Live Chat a BRP representative
is supposed to be their.
I also feel your frustration about the same thing.

wow, that sounds very serious.... "the whole project could toilet" All because YOU want your updates. Right now! Wow, you might need another hobby....
I'm also tired of waiting. If you "Fall" guys get push back that means it's only going to be even longer for us "Spring" guys that are waiting. Besides I am ready to get feedback from the actual production vehicles and not the prototypes.
MRFIX,

I feel your pain! I don't care for being kept in the dark either.
Part of the trouble is the simple fact that this is a (Brand New) product and BRP, may have other production commitments to meet as well. After all, they also produce Sea Doo's, Ski Doo's, Snow Mobiles and ATV's. Who knows...maybe all their products are built at a single factory.
The other difficulty is that we are the first buyers and have been waiting the better part of 6 months. As the time to finally receive our long awaited toy grows short, so does our patients. I could deal with the fall delivery just fine back in May, June and July but now that the magic month is finally here. I don't want to wait another @#*day.
I told myself, "It's gonna be Oct. before they arrive at the dealers." but right now, it isn't helping to much.
I would just like the guy at the other end of the phone at BRP to tell it like it is and not beat around the bush. I can't wait to get the spyder.
I'm guessing the guy at the other end of the phone at BRP is telling you all that he knows. I personally want my Spyder to be "right" the first time around and hopefully that is what BRP is trying to accomplish.
We saw one here north of Toronto yesterday in what looked like production form with Florida plates on it. Don't know if the guy drove it all the way here or if it was a demo. Anyway I didn't see the guy riding to ask the questions.

I guess the point I was trying to make is that it would be nice if BRP could at least give us a status as to where they are in the production phase. The wait would be be easier to take if I knew what was going on.

ok, I have to agree here. Lets face some facts. We are grown adults here. Any company that is comming out with a product, that is publicly held with stocks needs to make certian ship dates, production releases and so forth. Ford, chyrsler, HD, suzuki, all of them. If you call on any bike, any car that is new, all of the dealers will tell you a month that production is to start. In some cases, they will tell you, such the case when I got one of the first PT cruisers, Is here is the start production date, here is the expected build / ship time. There is no reason why BRP cant tell us when production is to start. Now,, food for thought. If these bikes are to ship out and arrive at dealers this month. it will take the a few days to tag each spyder with a vin, associate that vin with a name, print up plaques (that are supposed to come WITH the spyder). get them on trucks, and to the dealers. If you think about that and how the first run is slow on the produciton line to make sure things are ok, QC testing and so forth, then production HAS started this week in theory. It will take them a couple of weeks to push out 600-900 bikes on a new production line startup, to work out the bugs in the process, QC them completely, assign, box, load and ship them out.

but at the very least, yes, there is no reson why they cant say, production started on x day, or it is starting the week of x, We after all HAVE put down money, and not talking 10 bucks, but thousands. BRP is sitting on close to one , two million dollars or more in down payments,,,, that alone warents keeping customers of the money they are sitting on at least in the loop.

now for snow!!!! OMG t
that is a 4 letter word and I am NOT wanting it up here in the boston area,,, Nov is about as late as we can ride before packing them away for the long winter night.
