There are a couple of new 4 cylinder Jeeps out in 2007 (the Compass is out now and the Patriot is coming out in a few months)....both with a CVT (continuous variable transmission) in them (the Dodge Caliber also has the same tranny)....they claim they get 6-8% better fuel economy than a 4 speed tranny...

...wondering if anybody has had experience owning a car with a CVT?? What do you think?? They seem to be becoming popular as other manufacturers also have them in some models as well...

Some small suzukis had a cvt (belt and clutch) or were they Subaru's? the term CVT is somewhat vague, Honda accomplishes this in there 4 wheelers with hydraulics don't they? i think a belt drive car would be undesirable, unless you could get a REVZONE clutch kit for it

The Saturn VUE was the first one to use the CVT (to my knowledge) I talked with a guy who had one and he was happy with it.. said it was noisy, but had pep.. One thing i wonder.. what about "passing gear"??
