a little advice for any spyders with this annoying noise. have about 7k miles now and struggled to find source of noise for last 2 months. seems from exhaust or engine/transmission. spent much time isolating all suspect contacts . finally traced to pin that locks handlebars. if you look under bar and lock it you will see pin lowering and engaging bracket. pin is very loose ( not sure how it's retained in the lock). i used shrink tube to create a bushing to stabilize it when in the unlocked position. is there a technical bulletin from brp that recommends steering lock replacement?

Is this the same noise that stops when you put a little pressure on the key.

Maybe install a Hindle - that will take care of any strange noises you hear - :-)

successful muffler surgery gave me as loud of a exhaust as i'd like. because the rattle is from handle bar area, at speed it was just ahead of me and couldn't ignore it. hard to take pixs. you can't miss the pin in question extends to lock the handlebar. just look under and tap with finger to hear noise. i'd tried to hold key or bezel before. no improvement. does anybody know of a technical bulletin recommending lock replacement for this? other threads are reporting steering binding. related?

Not to resurrect a dead thread but I'm having the same issue a rattle noise from the handlebar area at 4500 RPM to about 6000RPM then its quiet again. Like a buzzing metal noise, at first I thought it was the engine or something but it doesn't seem to be the case. I tried your method putting a piece of heat shrink tubing around the lock and it won't fit it just pushes it back off. I tried tape and wedging it and nothing but I'm not sure that its the issue unless its up in there somewhere because when I push on it to keep it still it doesn't get quiet.

I guess I can try to take the assembly apart but its definitely coming from that area because when I put my hand over the ignition area its quieter than it was but still there like it muffles it some.

So if you have any pics of what you changed or ideas let me know.

Thanks

I took it apart and was able to get some heat shrink tubing over that lock, still has the rattle. Its not as bad but still there so I'm not sure that was the fix for it.

I did notice after I had washed it it was quiet for a while then started rattling again, I think its just the ignition itself something in it because its def coming from there.
