I got tired of searching for the parking brake with my heal while on my spyder. I thought it would be easier if it were longer...so, I made it longer. I removed the stock rubber parking brake pad. I bought a flat, 3/16" thick, 1 1/4" x 36" piece of metal from Home Depot. I put the piece of metal on top of the parking brake shaft and marked it so I could make holes that aligned with the existing shaft holes. I had the 36" piece of metal cut to 4" in length and holes punched to align with the existing holes in the shaft. I had a second set of holes punched to match up with the stock rubber parking brake pad. I then painted the new metal with a flat black rustoleum paint and let it bake in the sun for a few hours. I installed it with stainless steel bolts and nuts that I also painted and then put the stock rubber parking brake pad on the end. It is now 2" longer than the stock one and perfect for me. See length really is important to women.
I never really use my parking brake b/c I live in Florida and it gets stuck so much.

SE5 owners have no choice. If you don't use the brake, you get about a 90 decible beep that will not go off until the brake is applied. One does not have the option of using the transmission to keep from rolling, and roll, it will! Spyderwoman and I discussed the idea of the extension and she did it. I guess now it's my turn to make one.

Very nice. Good thinking! I rarely use mine, but do find it to be a pain when I have a passenger (my hubby) on the back.
And for the record.... it's all about GIRTH not LENGTH.

maybe that's why that country singer Girth Brooks was so popular with the lady fans.
It seems that I'm always right!

If you want to make a joke, get the name right. This is a forum to discuss our Spyders, not your comments about any sexual overtures.
And that goes for you too AUchiro.

OHHHH........YOU thought they meant..........?????
aaarrrgggghhhhhhh
I think they meant to say that the metal needs to be thick enough to withstand the extra pressure the length puts on it. Physics!!

For those with more money than tools, steel and talent ISCI has a parking brake extension that I took a few pics of at Daytona. The price is 80.00 I believe.

Hey spiderwoman, the thickness u used may bend over time, so u may want to get thicker so it would have better STIFFNESS. After all u wouldnt want it to bend or break.

Dudley:
In the SE5, if you wait long enough (less than a minute), the beep will automatically shut itself off.
To start the SE5 without the park-brake on, simply apply the right foor brake-pedal.
I am a left AKA living in a flat area and it is just bothersome to get off and go around the Spyder to apply it and then return to the right side to mount the SE5.

I designed a hand operated parking brake lever that bolts on my SE5 Spy using 3 Allen head bolts. Works like a charm, it's not in the way, can be and should be used while sitting on the Spy. The SE Spy models will roll away before you can apply the foot operated parking brake. Not now. If you want one contact me at: xe1ll@prodigy.net.mx
