Help Me! I purchased a Spyder in July and though I thoroughly enjoy it, my biggest complaint is the hot air that blows on both of my legs. Not so much the left leg, but definately the right. I had been complaning to my husband, who rides his Harley with me, but he just ignored me. The last time we rode was a very hot day, and I noticed my legs had red marks on them and it felt like sunburn. The next morning the red marks were still there! Did I mention I was wearing long jeans?
Can someone please advise me or send me in the right direction?
I just discovered this forum today and this is my first ever post so please bear with me!

First of all welcome to SpyderTalk.
As far as the Burnt Legs, I can't help out ther much. On Hot days I ride around in shorts and a t-shirt and have not had that problem. I do kow that some folks here have also complained about the heat for the engine/exhaust. I believe they have wrapped the exhaust. I'm sure someone here will point you in the right direction.
Again welcome to SpyderTalk, and ride safe.

Rode 250 miles round trip in Michigan today with 46 degrees at departure and 56 degrees on return. Hated the heat on the legs in the summer, but could get enough of it today.

This problem must be different on some Spyders, because I have only felt it 1 time, and that is when I rode for an hour, part of which was in traffic, and it was about the hottest day of the summer.
And even then it just made my right foot feel a little warmer than my left, nothing at all on my legs...

There have been posts on this and other forums - we extended the 'scoop' on the right side so 90% or the air from the radiator goes out the side vent rather than back on you leg. Made a huge difference - still warm, but no longer HOT.

Same here. I've never felt the extreme heat.

I just got back from a 2 hour ride in southern Florida. I have about 1,000 miles on the bike and I'd estimate 980 of those miles my right foot, ankle and shin have been extremely hot. I just get off my bike for 10 minutes after riding a short time and then ride again. That's the routine. It sucks! I'd get an exhaust since the cataylic converter removal might solve the problem but the added sound doesn't interest me. Your not the only one!

Just out of curiosity- do you use the stock pegs or highway pegs? And if highway pegs, where are they mounted in relation to the vents?

Jusy my .02 here. I do believe a lot of heat comes from the stock exhaust and cataylic converter.

I'd like to get a Two Bros Dual exhaust but I'm moving to San Diego next Spring and don't want to get harrassed about noise or pollution. I also think the sound might be much louder than stock from what I heard on youtube. The silencer only quiets the bike 5 decibles out of possibly 100.

I took it out this morning to test run it during "cooler" weather. It was 67* and sunny. I drove almost 6 miles and when I returned home my legs were pretty warm. I felt the side panel on the left and it was extremely hot.
Since I've told my husband about this forum and all the good information I've been getting from it, he all of a sudden took an interest in my situation. I told him about today and we have decided that he will wrap the exhaust pipe on the left side so that should help some. Then will attempt to figure out a way to get the air from the radiator to bypass my right leg.
I'd like to thank you all for your responses. I was just wanting to see if there was something wrong with mine or of others were having the same issue.
Ride Safe!

It does suck and I'm not very happy about it. One shouldn't have to get off their bike and let it cool down. One shouldn't receive red marks up and down their leg either!
We live in Richmond, VA so it does get "hot" here.
Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one!

I did notice a big change in the heat on my right foot when I changed to the micron exhaust. I've ridden in the hottest part of the year here in Florida with no heat problems. One thing I would suggest is having the gaskets checked where the exhaust comes together under the plastics. I had notice a change in my exhaust note and more heat on my right side than usual. I found and exhaust leak that is putting a lot of extra heat on the plastics. I can only assume its a bad gasket like some other owners have experienced and I'll be putting a new gasket on this weekend.

i made a deflector from a one gallon oil jug that covers the space left open by the stock deflector on the right side. Just made a cardboard templat and cut the jug with a sharp knifr. If you leave a piece of the bottom of the jug you can slide it under the screw just behind the radiator and use it to hold in place the new deflector. Then just position the upper panel over it to "form" it in place. This works great for me. I'll try to find some pics and post later.
