Why should it be in a separate thread?

Tharken posted his 'review' in the General Discussion area. Isn't the idea supposed to be for people to discuss the item?

Since he is a professional reviewer for Corbin products, perhaps his review should go in Tech Talk under the area you have called Product Reviews... and then make it so people cannot reply to it.

I really appreciate his views on many things, but professional reviews (in my opinion) always have a hint of biasness.

To not find one single thing wrong with this product (price should be an easy one) is strange. I've never bought anything that I didn't have SOME little thing I would change or that I didn't like.

Guess I just take the word Discussion literally in that we should Discuss.

Sure, that's fine. I'm more interested in the substance/detail. The logistics are not important. Here, a new thread, whatever works.

But don't lose sight of my point. It's easy to make 2 second slams and then claim no more will be said because "it's not wanted here". That's taking the easy way out. As I've told you publically and privately, any and all information on any product or company is welcomed here. It's the presentation that often derails people's "input".

Really, why do you have that opinion? Doesn't the fact that you just were able to share your negative opinion invalidate your claim?

Instead of throwing out redundant short jabs on your dislikes, I invite you to put the time and effort into documenting your issues in a seperate thread to the same level of detail that Tharkun did here. I would look forward to reading that.

Already did that the first day I got it. The threaad is out there with pictures somewhere. Its your web site you find it. Nothing has changed. Well the rust thingy is new now. Still no response from Corbin though. That hasn't changed.

Well,,,,,I met Tharkun Today!!!!

I was getting some work done on my Spyder so I had a Chance to spend about 4 hrs looking at the Corbin Work....All I have to say is.....Pictures do NO JUSTICE!!!! Looks to me like Corbin made a Conscious Effort in EVERY WAY to make their Product User Friendly and Form Fitting....Those Products Belong on the Spyder and several people commented on them with some thinking that they were Stock....Even some of the Guys at the Dealership said that it looked like the Spyder came that way....I however am not sold on the Front Fairing yet......Its something that might grow on me....Everything else was Meant to be....

Hats off to Corbin for stepping up to the plate....I dont know of any other company in the market today making Touring Stuff willing to cater to the Spyder.....Anyone????? :TgC_emoticon142:

If you dont like the price dont buy it....Save your money and invest it into your own Spyder Bag Business so we can all Critic and pick it apart in an open forum....

As for me.....I wont be buying any time soon(But I will be)....I have a Family to feed....Sooooo,,,,Ill just Follow Tharkun around and put my Swag in his Bags.....

Well, I used that great search function and found your thread. I didn't realize that you and Tharkun live close to each other and that he offered two months ago to meet up with you and compare notes and try to help you isolate your problem...and figure out why his experience was so different than yours. Did you ever take him up on that to help resolve your noise issue?

I jut did as you asked, I re- read all of your 118 posts and here is the first post you made about the Corbin Fairing:

Quote

So I bit the bullet and got the Corbin KA-FAIR for the Spyder. At $1500 plus this thing cost more than my wife's first new car. I unpacked it from what had to be the world's biggest shipping box and noticed at once that it is HEAVY. Not that that is such a bad thing. It's strong!

Posted Image

Installing it was a 20 minute operation. I like the looks. So the next step is taking a spin. I noticed immediately that it kept the wind off of my body but let some hit me in the face which is rather refreshing.
Then I got up to 32mph exactly and noticed the most awful wind turbulance noise. I had been wondering why anyone would wear ear plugs while riding a bike but now I knew. So I sped up to 80 thinking that at highway speeds it would go further over my head and quiet down. It just got louder and the frequency of the noise increased. After 20 minutes of riding my ears were ringing. This appeared to be unusable the way it was.

So I called Corbin and after more than a few tries I got in touch with Don who offered to send me a taller windshield portion of the fairing. I have not received it yet and hope to get it to try before taking off on a long ride.

In the meantime I am getting use to the noise or slowly going deaf. Ear plugs are definitely in my future. I get a lot less buffeting, its a lot hotter riding behind this thing, and I get a lot less bugs on my face shield. I am not sure I even need my face shield any longer. It is a lot quieter with it out of the way.

You state the fairing "kept the wind off of my body", that is what a "fairing is designed to do. But in later posts you say Corbin does not know how to design anything.

You state the Corbin Faring is "heavy" well it actually weighs only 10 pounds, and it needs to be strong to sub-stain the winds at high speeds. In a later post you state the faring is nothing but a lead weight, but in your post above you state that being heavy is not a bad thing, because it is strong.

You state you get a lot less bugs on your face shield, in later posts you state the opposite.

Other than the post I quoted above, your comments about the Corbin Fairing and windscreens are one line jabs, and you never really explain exactly what issue(s) you are having are.

I have made several offers to ride to Stockton and to compare my experiences with your, in the hopes of narrowing down the exact problem. You have yet taken me up on my offer, you choose to just post and complain about the Corbin Fairing.

You state that Corbin has refused to let you return the faring and give you a refund, my question is, when did you make that request and how many thousands of miles of use did you have on the fairing.

The Corbin factory is 120 miles from Stockton, with the $ 1,500 cost you keep referring to, have you at any point made a trip to the factory and talked with any of the management team in person, explain/demonstrating the exact issues you having.

Also if you have the same attitude when talking to Corbin representatives as you have demonstrated here on the forum, I can understand why any manufacturer may not be very helpful in resolving an issue you may have with their product.

You also state this is the first motorcycle you have ever owned, could the "wind issue" you are having be as simple as lack of experience, or not having had used a faring in the past, you are expecting it to preform as it is not designed to do. :TgC_emoticon142:

You make the comment of "Corbin worship", if that comment inculded me, then Sir, you do not know me at all.

My offer of meeting up with you, at any meeting place you choose is still available. I would be happy to work with you to see why out the 4 people I know (besides myself)that have had good experiences with the Corbin Fairing are doing different than you.

Not exactly sure how you decided that I'm a "professional reviewer", I'm just a simple Spyder owner that walked into the Corbin factory for a tour and the timing was just right with my 2K upcoming trip to WA State.

You have been reading my posts long enough, please point to one post where I have made any negative comments about my Spyder, I have not, as I don't have any. Does that then make me a BRP fan boy, I think not, just like I'm not a Corbin worshiper.

If you really need a negative comment about the Corbin products on Spydie how about :

1) Spydie and I receive more attention than before the Corbin items, so I now spend way more time talking to people.

2) I now spend more time making useless posts trying to explain my reviews, and it slows down the next review I'm trying to make, and then I can spend time defending my position on that one.

3) With comments like yours and a few others, there are days when I ask why I even devote my time to the forum, it is more fun to be out riding Spydie.

I don't don't know why folks are so negative. Forums and contributors make this a great place for information on a relatively rare vehicle and the even rarer after market products for said vehicle.

I've learned more from reading about the experiences of those who bought before me and I will continue. As soon as I have something worthy of documenting, I'll join in as well.

Keep the faith, man.

Dennis, appreciated the Corbin reviews so far of the fairing and the Smuggler. For my 2c, I will be sticking with the standard fairing, and if the Smuggler was half the price I'd buy one in a second.

I'm hanging out for your indepth review on the Corbin seat. I'm kinda hanging off ordering as I really want to read all your comments and see all the photo's like you provided in the other 2 reviews. Please put me out of my misery :P

Don't let the naysayers put you off, I find your posts very informative and appreciate the amount of time you dedicate to this site, which from what I can see is quite considerable

I'm in the process of attempting to finish up the saddlebag review, and then I'll do the review on the seat. Please be patient with me, I still have a few hundred pics from the road trips, Sturgis, and the factory tour, all of which I need to organize and get posted.

With the comments made about the Corbin products being "mass" produced and other issues, I have talked with Mike Corbin and he has no issues with me posting any pics I have taken and comments about the factory that I care to make public. I feel the public really needs to understand that the Corbin factory is not just small shop in Hollister with a few employees, it it much larger than I had expected, and way more involved than most would imagine, in my opinion. :)

So here is a copy of the communication I had with Don of Corbin. It does not show the date but it was a couple of weeks ago. No response which I find typical.

Yes I am short with the Corbin people. I don't suffer fools gladly. Never have. Never will.

I have not owned any other motorcycle. I do understand what noise is and when it will hurt my hearing. Being unable to ever actually use the thing means what? It is so detrimental to my hearing it is my fault I don't give it a fair chance. Get real!

I put thousands of miles on it because Corbin couldn't get out of their own way to get me a replacement windshield. My fault again I suppose.

Oh yeah I still like the way it looks. I have the windshield installed in anticipation of you and I getting together this week and sorting it out. Why this is your problem to fix and not Corbin's is beyond me. As soon as you check it out, the windshield comes off so I can ride my bike. Sorry but I am not able to use my bike with a corbin windshield. I guess I am just a wuzz. A wuzz would good hearing though.

Don;

I am back from a 6,575 mile ride without a corbin windshield. I did keep the Corbin fairing on because I ran out of time to take it off while waiting for the higher windshield that arrived the day after I left after waiting some ten days for it to arrive.

The fairing with the short windshield is unuseable because of the noise. In my opinion you should not be selling these. They are a health hazard.

The faring without any windscreen is equivalent to the much cheaper BRP touring windshield. It looks cool but serves no real purpose.

The fairing with the clear higher windshield is almost acceptable at speeds under 60MPH and abou the same at speeds above 60MPH. Since most crusing is done above 60 MPH it is also unuseable.

I would like to return the fairing and the two windshields for a a full refund.

Please inform me how to do this or have Mike Corbin call me.

No disrespect to the author - but anyway I try to look at that ugly thing- it makes the bike look worse and worse.

What the hell was Corbin think'in when they came up with that "Goofy" looking shroud that totally ruins the great lines on the Spyder.

Sorry Corbin, I'll leave the "body design" to BRP, we don't need some after-market seat company who knows nothing about aerodynamics change the frontal design and aerodynamics of a bike.

My advise is to just get a another winter windshield - this way you have one for summer (stock shield) and another for winter.

By the way, the guy who can't get Corbin to act responsible :deadhorse: don't feel lonely, there are thousands of guys out there (myself included) who Corbin has just used like pawns and could give a crap less.

You are entitled to your opinion, just as I am to mine. The difference as I see it is my opinion as for the appearance/design of the fairing is supported by several thousands of responses from the public in 8 different states now. Events such as Sturgis and the Walt Grey are two examples, it is amazing that the public has the opposite response to the fairing that some of the current owners of a Spyder have.

As for customer satisfaction, Corbin is no different/better than any other manufacturer, they will never have 100% customer satisfaction. Where your opinion and mine vary is that I have seen, talked with, observed hundreds if not a few thousand of the satisfied customers, and if they were not the majority, Corbin would have not managed to stay in business for 40 years at this point. :TgC_emoticon142:
