When the Corbin Wizards asked me to try the Spyder fairing I informed them I may not be the best person for testing/reviewing this product. Having never used or wanted a windshield or faring on any bike I had owned in over 50 years of riding, I was not sold on the need for a fairing on Spydie..
After about a 20 minute discussion with Mike Corbin about slipstreams, wind sheer, wind deflection, aerodynamics and a few other areas, Mike asked me to try his Spyder which had the fairing. I took his offer and went for a short ride on his Spyder, upon returning Mike asked what I thought, I stated he had my interest, so the Wizards installed the fairing on Spydie.
The installation is straight forward, simple, and takes approximately 20 - 30 minutes. No modifications to the console are necessary, the fairing brackets use the existing mounting points of the Spyder windscreen. It is recommended in having a second person to aid in the installation of the actual fairing.
In this picture you will notice I have a stereo system, this is a test unit, and therefore uses a non-standard mounting system for the fairing. The standard mounting system is the same design, just not having the speaker and player mounts.
The Spyder Faring is available with a 6" smoked shied, or a 10" clear shield. I'm 5'7 and I have the BRP 1" riser installed, for my use the 6" screen works well. It does not eliminate 100% of the wind in my face (but I don't want that either) if I ride sitting in a full up position. But for my riding style it does eliminate me from being wore out from the wind on my body on a long ride and does reduce the amount of wind noise for my ears.
The shield is secured by three screws and can be easily changed out in a few minutes. The Wizards have used the same hole pattern as any 1997 - 2006 Harley-Davidson FLHTC model fairing. This provides the owner the opportunity to change out the shield to whatever design/pattern he may find at any HD store.
The fairing is secured by four bolts and washers. Notice the detail of the ABS leather look dash panel, also the "center rib" of the faring is continued onto the dash panel.
The holder for an Ipod or MP3 player has the same ABS leather look appearance and is also lined to protect your player. There is a small controller/amp that is mounted on the opposite side of the fuse box under the trunk lid. If the stereo system becomes a product available to purchase, the speakers may be available in chrome or black, for the two systems on testing only chrome was available at the time.
The fairing cleaned, waxed and ready for the next rip this Sunday.
This was what Spydie looked like the day I arrived home from Sturgis, I did not have a real bug issue till I crossed the border from Nevada into California. I took these to show that the fairing preforms as advertised, I was wearing my open face helmet, wearing sunglasses when I encountered the bugs, and I had not one in my face.
After over 5,500 miles of use of the faring, in 8 states now, sun, wind, rain, and some hail, the Wizards have sold me on the need of it on a Spyder if one is doing any extended riding. It reduces the wind effect so much I have made two trips now of over 1,000 miles in less than 24 hours and could have traveled more miles if I needed.
I use my full face helmet for only in-climate weather now, my main riding helmet is now my open face helmet with sunglasses. Well in Sturgis, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah, because of no helmet law, I was riding at 75 - 90 mph with just sunglasses. The only wind issues are from a side wind, the fairing can't solve that issue. Because the design of the fairing works so well, it is easy to ride at high speeds with a minimal amount of pressure on the handle bars. In Colorado, Utah, and Nevada, well in the middle of no where country I could ride 80 - 90 mph for hours at a time, using just my right hand with just enough pressure to keep the speed I desired.
Also in those states and well at Sturgis 99% of the time it was with no helmet, and I think I had one or two bugs that missed the fairing and got me, this is a drastic reduction from a few months ago before the fairing.
In my trips to the Spyder shop, which is 30 miles one way, thru farming areas and orchards. I needed to wear my modular helmet and would need to clean the shield for the return trip home. I'm now able to make that same trip wearing sunglasses and open face helmet.
As for the design/appearance of the fairing, after having talked to a few thousand people during my road trip to Washington State, the trip home from Sturgis, and well at Sturgis for 12 days, I have not had one negative comment about the looks of the fairing on Spydie. The only negative comments about the looks of the fairing are from current owners of a Spyder and here on the forum. While I was not overly thrilled about the looks when first having the fairing, that does change. Yesterday while having it removed for cleaning/waxing, Spydie looked strange without it. I think the reason the fairing looks strange to us current owners is that we are accustomed to the Spyder without it. As with other products from Corbin, they really need to be seen in person, one dimensional pics do not do them justice in my opinion.

Well, tastes, colors & politics aren't too objective or helpful. Fugly is an interesting new word.  Might describe someone who received a junebug right in the face at 80 miles/hr.  has eaten a few bugs, got soaked... etc.
I got the Corbin fairing, with the taller, clear windshield. It is very effective in the rain as well. As far as ugly, we'll just agree to disagree on that. When you look at a spider, you can see a lot of body above the eyes. I think the fairing mimicks that and makes it look more "spidery". Plus there is more room for a cool paint job later.

I think I would have liked the Corbin fairing better if it would have replaced the Spyder's top half of the headlight / mirror plastic instead of sitting on top of it.

I'm thinking of putting a flaming phoenix to attract attention to the front hood, then paint the fairing with bright yellow and red flames. The bags will also get some flames.

I respect detailed write-ups as I do a few write-ups a year for Honda's after market products and race products my self.
I do find this write-up a bit interesting as it seems to be lacking any negative marks and I have yet to be presented with a product that was 100% positive. in my experience ALL products and after market items have a flaw per say.
can we hear a bit (if any) on the downside.negative aspects of this product?

Mine is still in production but expected to ship in the very near future (ordered it on 7/17). I have great hopes of more comfortable highway-speed rides. Childhood neck and shoulder injuries have, over the years, developed into bulging discs and arthritis in those areas making it extremely uncomfortable trying to buck the headwinds at 65+ mph (it wouldn't make me stop ... I love my Spyder). From the customer reports documented on this fairing, it appears it might be well worth the money. Eager to install it and give it a go. Thanks to all for your insight and willingness to share same.

From my observations, there have been two polarizing attributes on the Corbin fairing. Looks and price. Personally after seeing it in person, the looks are much better than my first impression from a picture. Price is not something one person can really comment on for someone else. It's either worth a certain amount to someone based on function or not.
If someone gets past the looks and price, then it comes down to "does it do the job". From Tharkun's experience, it looks to do a very good job. Not everyone will be in the market for what function this fairing provides, so to them it will be easy to say it's detracts visually from the Spyder look and is expensive. For those looking for improvements in big mile touring or to help with wind buffeting like AmeriKen, it looks to be an accessory worth checking out.

Here's my negative remark, and it's from riding with Tharken#409 a few weeks back...
The view looking back thru the rear view mirrors at the fairing is not unlike watching Tim Allen's neighbor Wilson on "Home Improvement" - you see a couple of eyes and a helmet "peeking" over the fairing.

I have 10,000 on a Corbin fairing and unlike Tharkun I have nothing good to say about it. As I have sat there all this time with the rain in my face, watching the provided hardware rust I think I know what it will take to make it work correctly.
Oh yeah, the only reason it is still on the bike is I like the look. I had to get some value out of this so I left just the fairing on. The price is outrageous but worth it if it worked. Paying that and having to finish the design to boot hurts a bit.
If you want details you can PM me. It is apparent that if you don't worship at the altar of Corbin your commments are not welcomed here.
Just my opiinion though.

Really, why do you have that opinion? Doesn't the fact that you just were able to share your negative opinion invalidate your claim?
Instead of throwing out redundant short jabs on your dislikes, I invite you to put the time and effort into documenting your issues in a seperate thread to the same level of detail that Tharkun did here. I would look forward to reading that.
