I just got back from a ride up to the top of Pikes Peak. I was wondering if anyone had ridden their bike any higher. It is 14,110 feet at the top. It was wet and muddy and lot's of fun. The bike is a mess but after 5000 miles in the last 16 days it was a wreck any way.
Is 14,110 fee the altitude record for a Spyder? How high in altitude have you been

How did it react! BRP has mastered the high altitude with the summit, probably works just as good TPS!!!

The spyder LOVES the cold, thin, crisp air.

I have been having a problem where the Rotax sounds really raspy between 3-4,000 rpm, when hot, in stop and go traffic. I tend to avoid s and g traffic because of this.
Going up the hill the engine was very hot but no missing or popping. It ran really good! Interesting. The Nanny was a bitch going up hill and I wish I had a switch to shut it off. But it is all good.

I think that's the record. Where else can you ride that's above 14,110 feet?

Well I was going up hill around sharp curves on some pretty loose, wet dirt doing about 15 miles an hour because I was behind someone going slow. I had to ride the clutch in first gear and when I put the power down a little too much the back end would slide and the rear tire would slip and Nanny would complain. Make sense?

I think there may be a pass here at 14,200. I am going to look for it today before I leave the state. If I can find it I will pad my 'record'

Go to Mount Evans before you leave and you will have driven the highest pass in North America.
Here is some information:
Mount Evans is the road into the sky. Drive from 8,700 feet at Idaho Spring where you turn of Interstate 70 to 14,240 feet to the summit and you will pass through 3 life zones, passing ancient trees, lakes and forest to the land above timberline.
I have been up there on the Spyder but did not take photos so I can't prove it! It is only about 20 miles from my house! It is beautiful and worth the detour if you have to take one! Stop at Beau Jo's in Idaho Springs for some great pizza too and then go to the Hot Springs.

I was hoping no one would bring up Mount Evans. Sorry but with checking out trailers in Golden and having to make tracks to California I passed up Mount Evans. Now I am in Utah. You go up there with a camera and claim the altitude record. Or when I come back through here we can meet up there for a beer. Its all good fun. I had forgotten how beautful Colorado is. Thoroughly enjoyed my ride through here. Last time through here was 35 years ago and I picked up my bride to be in Colorado Springs. Great Memories!
