I have 10,000 miles on my tires and i noticed that the rear tire is down to the wear mark
I went to a tire shop and he pointed out that the wear marks are at three different levels
He checked thr depth of the tread and said that the lowest wear mark is when the trire needs to be changed
He said that I had about 10,000 miles left at the present rate of wear.
Thought someone might want to know about tire wear.

BRP specifies a minimum tread depth on the rear tire of 5/32 inches. This more or less corresponds with the first wear marker. BRPP specifies minimum tread depth of 3/32 inches on the front tires. I changed my rear tire at the first wear marker because I was leaving on a long trip. Otherwise, I would have continued to use the original tire for a while longer.

Well at the shop today doing the PDI on a new SE5 I measured the tread on the new rear tire, Spydie has 6,800 miles on his rear tire.
At this time it has less than 2 millimeters of wear compared to a new tire.

I am at the first wear bar with 13000 miles. According to the owners manual it should be changed. I have another 1800 miles to do onthis trip so I am going to push on. I think that tire went away pretty fast. I have slid it a bit but never burned it. The fronts I have abused a bit but they look good. I guess I will have those measured and changed as necessary.

I think the tire compound is a soft rubber to give max traction and a smoother ride, just like on a car. I had Pirellis on one of my Mustangs and it could stick to corners like it was glue to it but wore out in no time flat. I switched to BF Goodrich and a little harder compound and they lasted a long time. The BF Goodrich were about 1/5 the cost of the Pirellis and the ride and traction was pretty close the same, not quite but for the money and extra wear I would love to see a little harder compound tire made available. The quite agressive drivers probably would like to stick to the present tire compound but the less aggressive drivers probably would appreciate a longer lasting tire. Has anyone ever tried the Bridgestone Potenza 92 tires, they are marketed as car tires and come in 14" and probably longer lasting than the Kendas. I'm not 100% sold on the idea that these types of tires can't be used on a Spyder if you are a moderate driver.

When the Spyder tires are worn down to the "upper wear limit" they still have more thread depth than a new tire on many motorcycles. Some of the bike tires look like they are well worn even though the rubber "tits" are still visable !!

my rear tire has 12,000km on it and shows significant centre wear. How far should the factory tire go on average before needing replacement?
