I rang around with insurance. Ended up with Arista ($550). Swann (whom I have two bikes with) was too expensive ($1100) and Shannons ($450) will only insure bikes if they are in a lock-up garage. I don't have a lock-up garage. I have a secluded covered area with a ground anchor that Arista were happy with. I got the Arista brochure at the CanAm dealer. Most other companies had never heard of a Spyder back in April when I was shopping around. I'm 56 with 38 years riding. That helps.

Thanks Martin
I read the discussion thread re insurance premiums..
Just wanted to 'prepare' for the arrival..
Did I read you were 58 with a birthday of 28/3 ??
Uncanny - I'm 57 with a birthday on 29/3
Guess Arians make good Spyder owners/riders....
I'll have a ring around to see what I get quoted
Cheers - Thanks for the input

Hi Robb,
Hopefully I will have my SE5 next month.
I have chased up insurance costs and the best I can do near Sydney (Gosford) is $800 with NRMA with Ulysses discount.
Shannons wanted over $1000 and QBE were rediculous.
I am 60 and have been riding for over 40 years, no accident claims etc.
Insurance pricing in NSW is much higher than other states

I went with Western QBE (different to just QBE) and was quoted $500 but I am in Queensland.

Think you got a good deal there..
I spoke with Western QBE and got a quote of some $1280.00
From earlier advice from Dicko , JBR would suggest you try ARISTA -
They quoted be the best premium of $560.00
They are a bit hard to find - You can call them on 1300 274 782
They are based in Baulkham Hills NSW
Good Luck - hope this helps
Let us know how you go
Cheers

Hi Robb,
Chased up Arista and they quoted $1100;
This was with minimal riding, over 40YO (I'm 60), maximum no claim and locked in a secure garage
They told me that Sydney and the NSW Central Coast pay quite highly due to risk factors
Western QBE quoted the same as QBE (ridiculous)
So looks like NRMA at $800 with the Ulysses discount
Should have the SE5 within two weeks!!!
regards
John

Just received my Insurance Renewal for the SE5 from QBE - $700
I'm a rating 1 - No finance..
Interested to see what others are paying and what companies are offering the
best rates, before I do the ring around with the insurance companies..
Look forward to your comments...

John, as you seem to be a Ulysses member, have you tried Debbie at Monoland ( http://www.monaland.com.au/) for your Greenslip and comprehensive insurance needs. They are special prices for Ulysses members only. Fully ratified by Ulysses Nat Com and Debbie is a Ulysses member also ( Eastern Creek) as was I before moving to Tassie.

Hi all, I just insured my 2010 RSS with Western QBE for $640.00 full comprehensive. Thought that was okay considering I only have an "L" license and had a 3 month license suspension for points accumulation 3 years ago. Morninton Peninsula Area, Rating 1, lock up garage, 46 years old.
still not absolutely sure about the validity of riding on "L"s. Cannot get an answer from anyone on the basis that it is a Tri-Car, not a motorbike and is registered as a car. It rides nothing like a bike and I think it is essential to get Spyder experience. Can't see the point in getting a bike license and killing myself as soon as I get an unrestricted license. None of it makes sense
