Did you ever take it in to get the brakes checked? Or did you just deal with the noise and hope it goes away? Just curious, mine squeaks bad too.

YA I HAD THE ROTORS CLEANED AND THE PADS CLEANED, DID'NT REALLY HELP. THE DEALER THEN SPRAYED SOME SORT OF ANTI SQUEAL ON THE BACK OF THE BRAKE PADS AND SOMEHOW THE SPRAY WAS ALL OVER MY REAR WHEEL, BELT SPROCKET, ETC. AND IT DID STOP THE SQUEAL FOR ABOUT 100 MILES AND THEN IT RETURNED AS BAD AS EVER. WE WERE IN ALOT OF RAIN COMING BACK FROM THE SMOKEY MTN. EVENT (2 DAYS OF HARD RAIN). I WONDER IF ALL THE RAIN CLEANED THE PADS AND ROTORS, JUST A THOUGHT. LIKE I SAID THE SQUEAL IS A LOT LESS TO ALMOST NONEXISTENT. I HOPE IT CONTINUES.

hello, our spyder started to squeal at about 1500 miles. we were at the dealer for the park brake pedal recall and they offered to clean, deglaze pads and rotors and use red sylicon goop. no thanks as i've had no luck with that in 30 years of automotive experience. once the metals work thru the goop the sound will return. the latest theory is that brake squeal is the resonance of brake metal components vibrating on each other. solution: remove pads and chamfer at 45deg at the leading edge, sand pads at 90deg of rotor rotation, deglaze rotors . clean all contact surfaces and pins with brake kleen. finally lubricate ( very carefully not to contaminate friction surfaces ) all contacts between pads/calipers with special golden grease MOLIKOTE cu 7439 PLUS paste by DOW CORNING. 900 miles later, the constant noise is gone. we'll get occasional light noise in extreme driving condition from rear brake, very acceptable. best of luck.

I'm sure they are painted vs a molded in Red color. The Silver/Black and Yellow/Black are painted so I see no reason for the Red/Black ones be a molded in red and not painted. Here is info I have found on the red:
BRP Color Name - Roadster Red
BRP Color Code - B-293
BASF Paint Code - 804705
So still waiting on scottmanesis to provide the info, links, etc... on red being the reason BRP pushed back the release of the reds a month. If someone can drop a turd like that then not provide back up to it then the reason BRP delayed the reds a month are to fix brake issues, add a hand brake, add a six gear (and keep the R) bigger radiator, bigger fans, better stock pipe, add the best windshield ever, add a VSS control knob, better shocks, choice of car tires and whatever the red buyers want changed or fixed to their liking! All this info which I can not provide information on or links to! Sorry about stealing this theard about the brake issue.

If you are so dissatisfied with your Spyder, why don't you sell it and go complain about something else elsewhere. And a VSS control knob? Do have any idea why there is a VSS on your Spyder? If you want to disengage yours, go right ahead and see how soon you flip your complaining self.

Hard to believe this is still an issue......reading this thread from the beginning should give anybody the information they need.

I applied the 3M tape to the back of my brake pads and at 4,400 miles, still no brake noise.

Knowledge is power...may the force be with you.

The thing is, I shouldn't have to do anything to solve this problem by myself (other the call the dealer). It's a new bike and has guarantee. Still the dealer can't help me :TgC_emoticon142:
But I love my Spyder anyway :)

You're absolutely correct. The difference is I choose to protest silently. Nobody riding next to me knows I'm amoung those that have written to the company and worked with my dealership to deal with this issue. Have fun.

Hello everyone.
Im a proud new Spyder SM5 owner!
Other than the brake screaming :wall: - I love this thing!
Cant wait to get it to the Dragons Tail!
Anyway I managed to fix the squealing brakes on my Spyder by cleaning the pads and applying a heavy layer of brake anti squeal to the pads on all 3 wheels. Had to let them dry overnight.
So far after 1000+ miles the are still quiet.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Hope this helps anyone looking for fix until BRP resolves the issue.

Does anyone know if BRP will replace these under warranty if they get the noise issue resolved?

Only my rear brake had a problem. I removed the pads and hit them with a wire brush. Re-installed them changing the side they were on. It's only been a couple of days, but for now no noise. :D We'll see.....

My brakes squeek loud. Often they will squeek in a high and low pitch. If I come to a stop with an old rusty dump truck, I am louder! I have left my bike with the dealer, and they said BRP has nothing to help this. I will read through the rest of the forum anyway. Though my transmission problems trump the squeeky breaks... Update....I installed 3M VHB tape (rubberized double sided tape) on the back of the brake pads when I had 1400 miles. The brakes were not squeaking loud, but the noise was increasing. I just crossed 4700 miles and I took the pads off for inspection. The brakes were not squeaking loud this time either, but during the latest ride, a squeak did return, and besides, winter provides time for extended down time. I replaced the tape and reinstalled the pads in less than 3 hours. The squeak is gone, again. I notified my dealer and BRP of the simple fix. Currently awaiting the permanent fix by BRP.

I first put in the poll that my Spyder was fixed from brake squeel. The shop cleaned it and for a few hundred miles I didn't hear any noise. But the noise is back full force and I will take it back to have it cleaned again on Monday. It's far too annoying! They really get loud the last 5 feet of braking!

Mine also started squeaking after I had posted no squeak.

Just got an e-mail from dealer yesterday that they now have a fix from BRP. I'll take it in and we'll see ...

My cure so far has been to drive faster and hit the brakes harder....

I just spoke with a service guy about the brake squeel. He told me to bring it in but didn't bring up anything about BRP having a solution??? I'll ask the manager when I drop it off.

It's odd because my local dealer here in the UK say that BRP have recognised this problem and are supplying better quality replacement sintered pads free of charge that will cure the squealing. Mine do not squeal yet but the dealer says he will replace them anyway.

Hey all. New to this site. Saw this thread and have some info on it. BRP has addressed this problem. They have a completely new material pad. If your brakes squeal take it to the dealer and they will install new front and rear pads. If you're in southern California come see us at North County House of Motorcycles.

When you apply the tape, do you cover the entire back of the pad or just where you think it's rubbing. GREAT FIX by the way and Thanks

When I took the pad sets off, I could clearly see where the pads rubbed. The first time, I applied only to areas of wear, but this time, I completely covered the pads. I've also requested the BRP fix from my dealer. No response yet.

To be on the safe side, that's what I'm going to do to. Is it harder to put the pads back on the caliper with the tape on? I'm new on this site with a yellow spyder i got around christmas and I absolutely love it. This forum is also incredible with lots of good advice. Thanks for the fix.
