Back to brake and squeal. Dealer cleaned my Spyder's brake pads and discs twice. Squeal greatly reduced, squeals a little quieter now. But the brakes still squeal. Slowing to a stop will cause the squeal, so I lightly brake until I hear the squeal, usually a few meters before the stop, then stomp down to brake. Then in first gear, power roll up to the stop, kick to neutral and wait for the green light. Squeal will never leave us.

I am a Wynn oil distributors and I sell a product call stop squeak, to dealership for the professional installer. It is use for brake squeal on cars with a fair amount of success. So since I have a brake squeal on my Spyder I decided to try it on mine. I remove all the brake pads, front and rear, and the front rotors, I took a good quality non chlorinated brake clean that evaporate quickly, and clean everything, front and back and allow to dry completely. I took a piece of emery cloth (200 grit) that I put flat on a of piece of wood, then I sanded all the brake pads, and took a file and rounded the edges of all the pads. Also sanded the rotors. With compressed air I clean averything to make sure to remove all the dust and particles. Now the product that I use has two parts, one part is a lube for the BACK of the pads and the other part is a liquid that you put on the pads itself. Yes I said on the pad, the side that make contact with the rotor. First I put a small coat of the liquid on the pad. I use a small paint brush to spread it evenly. I let it dry for a couple minutes than I put another coat on all the pads. It dry fast. Now all the pads have the stop Squeak on. The other part is a lube, it's a special grease for the back of the pad. I put that lube with my finger on the clip and on all the metal part of the back of the pad. Not to much but everything has a film of grease on it. I kept everything clean to make sure no lube touch the front of the pads or the rotors. I put everything back together and torque the wheels to specifications (77 foot LB). I fired up the Spyder and go for a test ride. First to do is, speed up to 45 miles per hour and apply the brake very hard until it stop. The brake will squeals and make all kind of noises. I did it two more times and the noise is gone. I did this at 800 miles and I now have 2300 miles and no noise. OK this work for me but that does not mean it will work for everybody. I am not saying it's a permanent fix but it work for my application. I just hope it help some other peoples with that ANNOYING brake squeal.

hope no one objects to my repy in your site (i own an Outy) but as a major manufacturers 30 year mechanic i would just submit that a persistant brake squeal that i was commisioned with turned out to be a concave brake pad. solved by placeing the offending pad on a belt sander to flatten it then a little chamfering on the edges.

disc brakes are not rocket science and are supposed to be simple. the old guys told me (i guess now i am the old guy) you got to KISS a problem. Keep It Simple, Stupid.

hope that helps

didn't see this reply

" I took a piece of emery cloth (200 grit) that I put flat on a of piece of wood, then I sanded all the brake pads, and took a file and rounded the edges of all the pads. Also sanded the rotors. "

there you go. try that.

dealer most likey dosn't get paid for that. only replaceing defective parts.

Dealer received a BRP bulletin after I picked up my Spyder. The bulletin addressed the brake squeal and procedure to clean the brakes. The service manager already performed the same procedure on my Spyder brakes twice while trying to eliminate the squeal issue.

Breaks started to squeel at  500 miles. Dealer said it was normal. :wall: Next service in 6 - 7 days and will make this a bigger deal with the dealer. I expect BRP to come up with a fix for this. But I have to add I LOVE THIS RIDE.

I used CRC Brake cleaner for the pads and rotor...then I put 3M VHB tape on the back of the pads where the rub marks were. 400 miles and no noise.

My brakes have never squealed going forward, but let me back out of the driveway in reverse and hit the brakes and they let out a moan like the world is coming to an end, talk about turning heads!

"Brake Failure" error code displayed on the readout panel! Well, that's a first. Probable factors were the first brake squeal cleaning at the dealer and/or heavy use of brakes on the Road to LA County. The brakes started squealing again. The parking brake indicator flashed with the brakes applied and the parking brake disengaged. The brakes were working during the indications. They gripped and slowed or stopped the Spyder on the road. I rode to the dealer to have the service department take a look at the problems.

I delivered the Spyder on a Friday. I received a call on the following Wednesday from Service. They cut me a discount on labor cost because they ordered a computer cable from BRP to troubleshoot the brake problem. The cable arrived the following day. Seven days in the shop. Four hours of labor to troubleshoot the brake system and install new parts/accessories(pre-ordered last year). Labor charges=$498.00. Brake Failure indicator was removed, brake system was checked and tested again with good results.

The Spyder does not squeal, but I am hedging on the squeal's return in a few weeks.

Little known Spyder feature:

A back-up-alert utilizing and harnessing advanced audio and harmonics technology. Exclusive automechanical activation by reverse moment. Not a back-up beeper but a professional grade head turning warning device the culmination of 10 years of engineering, development and research.

BTW - As your brakes mature forward squeal may begin. Shop windows will implode near intersections. No one will ask if its "real" or "Memorex".

I now have 1,200 miles since installation of the 3M VHB tape. No backup or forward stopping noise.

I don't know if my repair/alteration worked yet, I'm still testing.

:dittto: on I love this ride. Mine are squealing only on forward breaking and only after they get a little hot, like on city traffic. I'm worried, though about my brakes glazing. There seem to be some temporary fixups for some people. I went to Sturgis and Oakland and back on one trip, so that is why I haven't done anything yet beside reporting it to the dealer when my husband's was getting his serviced. Mine has 6280 miles, and it is time to get it fixed, even if it is tolerable. Brakes are a safety issue, so my tolerance 's gone.... So you are from Wisconsin too heh? :riding:

I now have 1,600 miles since my fix. I have no sign of noise returning. I emailed my dealership about the brakes. "John, you've done more for your brakes than BRP is offering at this time". They inspected my brakes during the 3K service, and it doesn't void or affect my warranty.

$15, 2 hours work, 1,600 miles of enjoyment. B)

darn,darn,darn,darn,darn......... had dealer replace brake pads (under warranty)... drove for 550 glorious squeek free km.
Cannot describe the different feeling when coming to a stop. The spyder riders without the squeel have no idea how nice it is not to cringe every time you apply the brakes.
Mine are starting to squeel again...#$@*&^&* .. not once in awhile, but everytime I apply the brakes.darn, darn, darn, darn, darn !!!

My brakes no longer squeal. Per the report of the warranty service: Remove brake pads and put a 45 degree angle grind on the edges, clean rotors and apply Brake Quiet on pads. Reinstall and then test. This was doen by the prior owner and I've never had the squeal.

Mine only squell once in a while while backing up. :TgC_emoticon142: I was looking at them the other day, and I will have to replace them withing the next 5000 miles.
