I recently returned from a road trip on my spyder. It would have been great to have cruise control . Has anyone installed cruise control? Let me know what you put in and how you like it. Thanks

It seems like the majority are going with the Throttlemeister throttle tensioning system as the lowest cost best solution. While not a true cruise control it seems to work well. I just put mine on and have not given it much of a test but know it will suit me fine.

The instructions to install it are a little goofy but it is easy enough to figure out.

I used the infromation cantained in this post. The guys that took the time to post picts and instructions made it extreamly helpful. This is an actual cruise control install. Takes time to install and is not easy. The benifits are well worth it. especially on the long rides.

I wouldn't do the cheesy o-ring home kit that was posted on another site. The throttlemeister is a precision device and well made.. with SAFETY in mind.

The bar end weight of the TM units also helps with any vibration. The TM install takes 20 minutes.

The actual cruise control units that some have added are pretty complex to install... plan on 6 hours if you're really good. I also know that one person had their cruise control air chamber melt from the heat inside of the Spyder.

The TM units run around $150.... the Audiovox cruise control can be had for $100.... but remember the install difference.

I personally had the Audiovox unit and then decided to sell it and get a TM instead. I didn't want that much down time... and was also concerned about any warranty problems with the install of the cruise unit....

Some will say the TM unit doesn't vary the throttle when you go up or down a hill... which is true.... but that is why you have your hand nearby anyway. While the actual cruise control will vary the throttle on hills.... it can't change gears for you.....

I just installed the Industries 7 "vista style" throttle contorl. It was difficult to install without ANY directions but it seems to work well. The price was $68 and was shipped from Canada, got it in 2 days. I will be using it on the trip to Gatlinburg, TN this coming week. I will post some pics if you are interested.

I have the ThrottleMeister and I love it. I still feel like I have control over my speed even with it on. I just use it to give my hand a rest and not go numb.

I'm happy with the Vista cruise -- cheap at 35 or so and available just about anywhere. Simple install. I only use it on freeways or other long, mostly straight stretches such as US50 in Nevada.

I recieved mine with no instructions at all. I had to put mine on based on the picture alone. I installed it 4 different times. You must trim the black plastic inner ring about a 1/2" or so to fit the inner piece of the throttel control ( I do mean cutting it). Next, the thumb release part or outboard part is installed over the existing grip, not under it on the throttle itself. The control comes with a second rubber piece which goes to the inboard ring of the thumb device, against the bikes existing controler for you start, hazard ect. You will need to play a bit with the tightness and the small hex nuts on the adjustment. Be sure to reallign the existing controls ( which will have to be loosened to install) as there is a cut out in the handlebar for proper allignment. It is a small slot on the handle bar that you might overlook if your not paying attention. I did several times before noticing it. I installed mine last night, rode for 4 hours today and it all come together. The cable retraction is finally working back to normal and "snapping back" when the throttle is released, but not without a few adjustments.

I have installed many of the vista style controlers before and this one was a bit more labor intensive. But learn from my work and hopefully you won't have to recreate the wheel.

Good Luck!!!

Will the Throttlemeister work with stock grips? If not, which one/s are recommended please?

Cheers,
Stephen

That's at least three of us now that got no instructions from Industries 7. I emailed them and let them know that I felt I could install it without instructions, but they might have higher customer satisfaction if they were included. They got back to me with instructions in an email after I had it installed and assured me that instructions were normally included. After seeing the instructions I noted that they wanted it installed over the grip. I have had other similar devices and was not comfortable with that. I cut my grip so it's friction surface is the tube, not the grip. I did tear my grip puppy on that side trying to get it back on. I have difficulty activating it with my thumb and may exchange it for a Throttlemeister or a similar product from Manic Salamander at some later date. Right now I'm saving my pennies for the Gatlinburg trip and to get my trailer painted.
