Hands get cold they are out there in wind. Would Can-Am ATV deflectors work? Would they look totally stupid?
Any ideas?

Haven't got mine yet (its on order), but I had this conversation with the dealer. He said that he can retrofit an ATV grip warmer kit to the spyder.

I had heated grips installed on my Triumph Tiger in anticipation of commuting with it over the winter (only with temps above freezing -- don't wanna hit an unexpected patch of ice on two wheels). I found even with the heated grips my hands still got uncomfortably cold during my 35 - 40 minute commute with temps below 40 degrees F. My palms were nice and toasty, but the backs of my knuckles and finger tips were frozen.
I tried a set of ATV-style deflectors, but found them inadequate. Perhaps they work at typical ATV speeds, but at highway speed they allow the wind to spill around quite readily. My experience shows (at highway speeds ) they are little better than nothing.
When you start seriously shopping for deflectors, look for the type that attaches at the handlebar inside the grip and wraps completely around the grip to attach at the end of the bar -- this is the only way the wind will deflect completely around the hand.

I've found with deflectors like this and heated grips I can wear summer-weight gloves year round.
NOTE:The photo above shows a hand guard with an additional deflector/spoiler attached at the top. Some have found these to be advantageous in preventing the wind from entering the end of the sleeve. In cold weather I wear gloves with a guantlet that covers the end of my sleeve. Consequently, the hand guards I use do not have that addition and work fine for me.

Mark

Gloves can only do so much... if it dips much below 50 your hands can get really cold really fast... just from the wind.

I can testify to that. My hands (wearing gloves and thermal liners) were exposed to 70 - 75MPH at temps between 44 and 50 for about two hours and I had blistering red hands with white lines all over and I swear that they were going to fall off.
Those look real nice. Where can I get those at? Do you know if they will fit the 7/8" Spyder bars?

I don't think anyone makes them specifically for the Spyder yet -- maybe a suggestion to BRP might get the ball rolling...
There are a number of different manufacturers who make this type of hand guard, but most need to attach to the handle bar itself as well as the bar end. It would be a matter of trial and error to find one you can modifiy to fit the Spyder.
My suggestion is to find an ATV/motorcycle/powersports dealer with some in stock and trial fit them 'till you find a pair that works.
Regards,
Mark
P.S. With summer approaching it's too low a priority for me to do the leg work -- if you're willing to wait for the off season I'm sure I'll be looking for some for my wife!
