Ok, I just bought a Spyder sight unseen (except pics) and have not even ridden one. I live in Albuquerque NM and have to drive to Denver CO this weekend to pick it up . I really do not want to drive all the way back to Denver in a months time to have the Spyder's initial 600 mile service done. This leads into my question.

How many folks have taken care of your own 600 mile service? Did you find it difficult? Where can I buy a shop manual for the Spyder?

I plan to park the Spyder next to my CBR 1000RR. I don't have a problem doing my own service. I just want to ensure it is done right.

Any advice would be sincerely appreciated!

It is important to have the first service done by a dealer so they can hook up to the BUDS software system, check on error codes, etc. The dealer can also check the belt tension and tracking (if they know how) and check on many small details. And change the oil.

Can you find a closer dealer? - it does not need to be at the dealer where you purchased the machine.

Subsequent services can be done by the owner.

Welcome VisuMAX,

I agree with Stuart on having a dealer do the first service. There is a new dealer in Amarillo which is closer for you...still not next door I know.

My closest dealer is 300 miles each way. I hope BRP will designate a dealer in New Brunswick very soon instead of Marc Lacroix's answer of be patient, a year or so. I wish they let the local Can Am dealer at least service the bikes for warranty work even if they couldn't supply the bikes for awhile. I know of a couple of guys that have changed their minds about getting the Spyder because of the lack of a service facility within a reasonable distance.

I was afraid someone was going to say that :wall:

Looking on the BRP Can-Am Spyder Roadster site: I found Amarillo Outdoor Power Equipment in Tx listed as an authorized Spyder dealer. It is just 4hrs away. That shaved 2 hrs 30min off my trip to get it serviced I guess.

Why could BRP not have at least one Spyder dealer in NM? We have a place here in Albuquerque that sells every other Can-Am product except Spyder!

I'm in the same position as you as far as having a Can Am dealer here in town who sells everything BRP produces but they haven't seen it in their wisdom to certify him to at least do service and warranty work. They would rather have me drive 600 miles round trip to the closest dealer. This also discourages people in this area from buying a Spyder. I can't quite figure out their logic, the guy is already a Can Am dealer.

The training and tools required are something the dealer has to foot the bill for... and if they are not yet selling the unit... I can see them wanting to wait.

The dealer here wants to be able to service the bikes until BRP makes up their mind. The dealer ordered 2 Spyders, he had to pay retail from a Spyder dealer, one for himself and one for the boys in the shop to tear apart and get familiar with it with the hopes BRP will come to their senses and designate him as an official dealer. When they are done with the shop bike it will become his wife's.

Well, that should give him a leg up on anyone else around that was looking to carry them.

My dealer - Leaders Marine in Kalamazoo - is really a boat dealer - along with snowmobiles and ATV's. They told me they don't really make anything on the ATV's and Snowmobiles - it just keeps them even instead of having to lay people off during the slow times.

Anyway, there is another Can-Am dealer in Kalamazoo that really wanted the Spyder dealership. They sell All kinds of motorcycles - Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, etc.... M&M Cycle is their name.

I personally think M&M might have been a better fit since they are into cycles already. Hopefully with time they will both be dealers.

I'd love to be able to give them $200 for the inspection but their is nobody here to do it.

This dealer is the only Can Am dealer within 100 miles and sells everything BRP makes. He also sells Suzuki bikes. You would think this would be a no brainer for him to be a dealer but then again as we say in eastern Canada, BRP is from central Canada and like the rest of the country they think Canada stops at the Quebec/New Brunswick border.
I'd love to give them some of my money to do the inspections but there is nobody here to do it. I'm not driving 600 miles round trip to get it done. Maybe the guys down here that cancelled their bikes and will wait until there is a dealer have the right idea.

I think you left the part of my previous post out. The part about eastern Canada being forgotten by the rest of the country. I'm only stating it the way it is and I agree, this is no way for a Canadian company to treat another Canadian simply because we live in the best part of Canada.
