Will he sell the hitch to people who don't purchase his trailers?. I talked to Jim at Adventure Sport about his hitch, but he won't sell just the hitch. I have a trailer that I have pulled thousands of miles behind my cruisers and I want to pull it behind my Syder (when it gets here). Also will it hook up to a 1 7/8" ball type draw bar.

Brian, I spoke with David Hannigan, of Hannigan Motorsports, who is the manufacturer of the hitch. Of course he wants to sell trailers, but he is in the business to sell motorcycle accessories. He will sell to you. I believe this is a sturdy hitch and seems relatively easy to install. I got the Europa trailer and was at the factory during the building of it last week. I provided the color scheme and they color matched the trailer perfectly. The trailer weighs 190 pounds. The price of the hitch is $395.00 USD plus shipping. They will build it when ordered. They have a first class operation in Western Kentucky. Rick

Here are some photos of the hitch. Also attached are some photos of the bike and trailer package. The thing that is a little tricky is to cut the slotted holes in the underfender splash pan. A cardboard template will certainly be the best way. Not to worry if you cut it a little loose, as a bit of black silicone around the bracket will seal it up. It is important to seal up the brackets. The water from the back tire can get up in the electrical components.

The base price is $2495.00 for the Europa, which is the perfect size trailer. It fits in a parking space. You can start adding options and paint schemes. Chip or Steven or david will be only too happy to speak with you. I have toured the factory. Wow what an operation........ Good Luck

Thanks Rick
I will keep them in mind. The fella that made my last two hitches said he would have a look at making one for me. So I will wait until I get my Spyder and see if Buddy can build a hitch or not. That is a very nice looking set up you have. I am afraid my old 1987 Tiny Mite tent trailer won't look too sleek behind the Spyder. Have a nice Day.

I have pulled the trailer about 100 miles and I haven't had any issues with braking. I performed some hard braking as i need to know what it will do. I have been told that on abs equipped bikes trailer wiring can be an issue that will effect braking. I spoke with my dealer and inquired about warranty issues with a trailer. He stated that tires, brakes, and clutches are basically not covered as they are wear and tear items, which no manufacturers covers. As long as the trailer doesn't cause the failure then there isn't an issue. As far as I know no other manufacturer does a blanket void. Your dealer will do all they can to get something covered under warranty since they get paid for warranty claims. The Spyder is new and the manufacturer knows there will be bugs at first. If anything they want a more versatile use for the Can Am Spyder so they can hit a more broad demographic.

All motorcycle manufacturers say that. In the end they have to prove that pulling a trailer caused the problem. How many Gold Wings do you see pulling a trailer.? Honda has the same disclaimer. The only people that use pulling a trailer as a plus are Trike manufacturer's, like Lehman. Like the other post said most of the things a trailer can affect on a bike are non warranty items. The biggest concern would have to be electrical items. The bike manufacturer's in my mind are more concerned about liabilities. There are so many more things to be aware of on a motorcycle than on 3 or 4 wheels and pulling a trailer only adds to that list. Very nice looking trailer and hitch. But how long do you think it will be before you get a traffic ticket for blocking the License Plate?
I'm also thinking about a trailer. Looked at one for $1,750 at a local trailer dealer.

Do not tow anything with the vehicle.
The VSS will not be effective, and you
will be more likely to lose control.
This from page # 51 of the Owners Manual, and as stated it is the standard don't do this warning.
I also agree the only issue I see with this trailer hitch design is the license plate, perhaps relocating the license plate would be a good idea.

There is no problem as long as I am pulling the trailer, however the formentioned posts are correct about obscuring the view of the license plate. I have built a clamp on mount tag mount with tag light. The hitch was designed and built rapidly and it was addressed at that time. That was something that I knew I would address. Here in Florida if you obscure your tag and are stopped by Law Enforcement you may get a ticket, especially if you act like an a$$ clown. If so it is a non-moving violation.
The good thing about this forum is that most on here are cognizant about issues and bring good information to the table...........Cudos
