The Riser block for the Spyder is part # 219400087 and retails for $ 39.99 and adds an additional 1" more than the stock block. As with
some of the other Spyder accessories, the need for removal of several body parts is required for this install. To be safe, allow 1 to 2 hours
for this install, and read the instructions fully, making sure you have the tools required. :)
  • I removed instrument cluster and console assembly, this is optional.
  • Remove the center panel
Posted Image
  • Remove clutch lever.
  • Remove right handle grip cap from handlebar.
  • Loosen throttle housing screws.
  • Slide throttle housing outward, but do not remove completely.
  • Remove 4 upper screws underneath the handle bar cover. (these screws can be diffacult to remove because of the limited clearance)
  • Remove 2 lower screws holding the ignition switch cover.
  • Remove ignition switch cover.
  • Remove the remaining two screws on the handle bar cover.
Posted Image

Lift up the handle bar cover and lay it on the Spyder, do not remove it completely.
Posted Image
  • Remove the 3 hub screws and the hub plate.
  • Remove the handlebar and lay on Spyder, avoiding any tension in hoses & cables.
  • Remove the hub nut and washer.

The instuctions shows using a standard puller, how ever out of the three differant styles we tired, none worked
very well becasue of the design of the block. In Jims tool collection we found a 30 + year old fly wheel puller tool that
worked great. So be prepared to be creative with some tools.

I did not get a pic of the new block, but it is the same design as the stock one below, just 1" more in length.
Posted Image

If you notice in the pic, you will see a "flat" area, similar to a key way. This prevents one from installing the block
incorrectly. I have seen posts with comments about the ingition key not working, and the handlebars being
out of alignment after the riser block upgrade. Sorry, both of these issues were not caused by the riser block.
At least on my Spyder. :)

The riser block installed and Spydie re-assembled and ready for the road.

I have had the riser block on order for a while now.
My question to you is I sort of got used to it without it being there.
Does it really make that much difference with just an inch more height?

I am starting to question now if I really do need it, from all the good pics
that I've seen that you sent there is a lot of things that have to be dissembled
and if it doesn't make that much difference in the long run I may pass on it.

Let us know how it handles now and feels after you had a chance to ride it
a while and if you can really tell if that 1 inch of height made the sitting stance
better for longer rides. :riding:

Have only had the riser in place since 12/21 and only had Spydie out for less than 20 miles because of our winter weather. :)
Several of the folks at the dealer did a short test ride after the install and for now I agree with them, it does make a difference and is worth the cost/time to install. But as with all the Spyder accessories I'm sure someone will jump in and feel it is not worth the cost. :D
Our warm weather should be returning in a couple of weeks and then I'll be able to have more of an opinion to offer. Also I know my dealer has several of the riser blocks in stock if any one is really desperate to have one.

Do you know of any plans to make a riser that brings the handle bars back? My dealer told me that the actual Spyder would come with adjustable handle bars and that is not the case. I am five feet tall and am either going to have one fabricated or will buy one if it already exists.

Seems your dealer is mis-informed, I have heard no rumors of adjustable handle bars, and other than the curerent riser I know of no other products that would help you. Perhaps in time there will be something available. :TgC_emoticon142:

we've thought about designing a new upper clamp that would allow the installation of a standard 7/8" or 1" diameter handlebar (with 1000's of choices). is this something spyder owners would be interested in? let us know.

Just curious if you've been riding and have any further feedback on the riser...thanks!

Just so happens I'll be taking Spydie over the hills today and into the bay area. Most of the trip will be on the freeways and about 150 - 200 miles round trip if I use the route I plan on. This will be the first real testing of the riser block and I'll post my thoughts this evening. :)
Temps today will be in the high sixties so should be a nice day for a ride in the bay area. :riding:

Tharkun#409 could you be so kind to post some pics of the total bike with the riser block installed?

Doesnt the bike look bad with higher steering?

Please post some pics, thanks in advance.

In my opinion the riser block does not change the appearance of the SPyder that much, most people would never notice the difference.

Over the last few days I have put over 300 miles on Spydie, all were freeway miles and I'm happy with the riser. I'm 5'-7" and for me, the
riser helps and I have less pressure on my wrist, and don't need to lean forward as much. :riding:

Thanks for the pics and your reply

I've added 2 pics at http://www.stage6.co...-Spyder/images/ if you don't mind.
If you don't want them there I remove them :)

Another question; are the meters good visible with the risers? Not a part of the handlebar in front view?

The riser block does not effect the instrument cluster in any way, the 1" additional height of the handlebars does not change the visibility of the instrument panel.

I'm really happy to hear about your experience with the riser. I am also 5'7" and will therefore order it as well. I will have the dealer install this for me, again based upon your feedback. He can put it in the same time he is installing the fog lights.
Excellent advice!

I took delivery last week, and had the riser put on immediately. I'm 6 feet tall, and don't like to be too hunched over while riding. I really like the addition of the riser as it provides a MUCH more comfortable ride for me. I do hope Ken makes some alternatives, however, because I'd love to have the bars pulled back a little as well.

One inch is better than nothing. But 2" to 2 1/2" would be better. Adjustable would be fantastic!!!
