Now that I have had the alarm system installed and have had a chance to use it, I'm in the process of writing up a review of the cost, installation, and the performance of the system. I hope to finish and post in a day or so. But our sunny weather is returning so that could delay me some. :spyderemoticon:

I have the Scorpion on my FJR and agree that it is a good alarm, However, I would like to note that the transmitter consumes batteries as if they were free. I have decided that a vehicle immobilizer and the convienance of keyless starting would be a little better so I went this route --->

Just curious about your issue with the Scorpio remote consuming batteries. I have now used the alarm system for almost a month and the battery is still at full charge. What type of time frame did you have before the battery needed replacing ?

Also have you installed the Guard Dawg yet, if so, how did it work with the DESS system ?

Thanks :)

Actually the Perimeter Sensor is more of an interest to me than the theft protection, if someone wants to steal Spydie, they will mange to do it, reason I have full replacement cots on the insurance.

I think the motion sensor will be a nice feature to have, when parked it will keep good intentioned lookers at a safe distance. If not and they are persistent, l receive a warning and can go out and investigate. Yes there is a range limit for the remote, but there again it will work for my needs 90% of the time. :)

Hello Tharkun #409, love you your posts. Are you going to put rubber rings/washers around the holes that you have made in the frame to prevent wires damages from vibration/friction?

Please keep up the good work with your pictures and updates.

Weather was cold and crips on Vancouver Island but still got in a small ride this morning.

Thanks for the kind words. :)
The two holes I drilled for only used for some heavy duty wire ties, these were used for securing the MCM. The adhesive pads were adequate for mounting the unit, I just tend to over engineer projects. :)

The two wires that I routed thru the frame to the main fuse block for the RID-5 module actually entered the frame tube in the same area that factory harnesses use, so no chance of being damaged.

I received an email from Scorpio and the factory plug in harness is now available for the Spyder.

Tharkun, I see you put the perimeter sensor under your seat. how does it work?

I just had an i900 installed and they put the sensor under the center panel between the seat and the handlebars.

works fine except when the engine is warm it goes off non-stop.

i'm guessing the only solution with this is going to be relocating the sensor?

I have the sensor towards the rear of the seat area, has been there for over 10k miles and have never had any heat issues or false alarms. :TgC_emoticon142:

I've just installed the SR-i900 on my Spyder, it was an easy install although not a quick one! One problem for me however was the fact that because I have the rear luggage rack installed I couldn't put the MCM into the frame tubing, as the rear rack support bar goes into this area. I place it in the gap between the battery and rear wing strut.

By the way, what wire did you tap into to make the connection for the RID-5?

I had a perimeter alarm on my Jeep. Worked great. Jeep sat 44 inches off ground and i put sensor under it so any movement around it within 8 feet wouold triggger it to beep horn once letting you know it was there. The closer you get the more it beeps, within 3 feet it sounded for you to step away from my car. if you didnt move then it sounded alarms. It also could be set so you could get close to it but not reach inside if top was down. But if you werent 7 ft. you werent reaching in anyway as it was to darn tall. Just cant remember name of system.

Sold Spydie a few months ago so can't check, but think RID-5 was tied into the fuel pump line at the fuse box.

i'm glad you were able to get an alarm for your spyder but you only had to wait another week or so for the talon alarm. we have been working with brad and will be helping him build the harnesses for the spyders. we will also look at keeping them in stock here in the u.s. for spyder customers.

How much for the talon alarm?

If I remember correctly, Ken does not stock the Talon alarm systems. Also you may want to wait and see what new modles Talon may have available :) .
