We are having a week of rain and wind here in the valley, so today I decided it was a good time to install an alarm system on Spydie.
My dealer gave my usually 20% discount plus a few bucks, so I picked it up for $305. It is the Scorpio Model SR-i500SE which has the 3-stage perimeter sensor, remote ignition disable/anti-hijack, and the battery backup.
I passed on waiting for the factory plug-in connector to be available, since that could be while before becoming available.
PACKAGE CONTENTS
Removed a few pieces and now have a plan as to where the hardware for the alarm will be placed.
The MCM (main control module) will fit nicely into the frame tube.
The parts removed from Spydie.

i'm glad you were able to get an alarm for your spyder but you only had to wait another week or so for the talon alarm. we have been working with brad and will be helping him build the harnesses for the spyders. we will also look at keeping them in stock here in the u.s. for spyder customers.

Scorpio had a few features that I liked, and having used Scorpio in the past, I choose to stay with them. Talon looks to be another good choice as well.
Also if the weather predictions stay accurate, next weekend I'l be doing more Spyder demo rides and wanted the security for Spydie well parked and having public access.

i would be very interested in your feedback on this system for the spyder (install, use, etc.). also, how do you plan on using the remote since you can't attach it to the key?
i have a feeling that motion alarms will be very popular with the spyders since others who see the spyder parked somewhere seem to feel they need to sit on it (regardless that it isn't theirs). maybe some sort of tazer-type seat would be a good option

Will post while making progress on the installation, with the current weather I'm not rushing the install. As for the remote, not sure I understand your question about not being able to attach it to the Spydie key.

i just wondered that since most remotes are used as key fobs (and your picture shows a key ring) if you had an idea of how to attach the key or if you would just leave them separate?

I may attach it to the key sheath, as that is where the key goes when removed from the Spyder. I do like the Spyder key not having a hole, as I have always just used the key on my bikes, I don't care for a lot of things hanging on my bike key well riding. More likley will just carry it in a pocket as I do the key fobs for the vehicles.

The parts/modules of the Scorpio SR-i500SE are: - MCM (Main Control Module)
- HAR-1 (Main Harness)
- GEN-1 (Generic Installation Kit)
- Accessory Harness
- SN-5 (Perimeter Sensor)
- RID-5 (Ignition Disable/Anti-Hijack Module)
Drilled two holes in the frame tube for wire tires. Made up a two wire harness that was pulled thru the frame
tube to the main fuse box at the front of Spydie. This will connect the RID-5 module to the main fuse.
The RID-5 harness entrance into the frame tube.
The RID-5 harness meets the fuse block.
After wasting an hour or more searching hardware stores for large pieces of adhesive pads, gave up
and picked up what was available.
The MCM secured in place with adhesive pads and two wire ties. Left plug is for the accessories (SN-5 & RID-5)
Right plug is for HAR-1 harness. The small black cable to the right of that harness is the antenna.
Relocated the left turn signal wires to the opposite side, allowing for placement of the RID-5 module, it is
secured in place with adhesive pads and one wire tie using some existing holes.
Two modules in place, now just need to make all the connections and secure all the wires in place.
The connectors supplied were T-tap type. lay the wire in place, close and squeeze till it snaps close. The wires
on the HAR-1 connected to the T-taps, making for simple and fast connections. The color coded wires matched
with the Spyder colors. Two grey wires for turn signals, one orange for tail light, and black for ground.
One wire to the positive side of the battery and the alarm was tied into Spyide.
Left side
Right side
View of all connections tied and in place.
Tested the MCM and the SN-5, all worked as designed, no issues. So reinstalled the seat and rear panels, tomorrow
I'll finish up making the connections to the fuse block, test the RID-5. Then install the last panels and position and secure the SN-5 under the seat.

I have the Scorpion on my FJR and agree that it is a good alarm, However, I would like to note that the transmitter consumes batteries as if they were free. I have decided that a vehicle immobilizer and the convienance of keyless starting would be a little better so I went this route --->

I read your other post about the Guard Dawg last night and was going to reply. Does it replace the need for the Spyder key completely (trunk, seat, steering lock) and also how does utilize the BRP DSS system ?
Also from reading it does not appear to be a full featured alarm system other than being able to be tied into the ignition/fuel pump system ?

so you have this already mounted on your spyder? how does it connect (interface) with the factory immobilizer?

I have not installed it yet. I do have the sytem on my Victory Vision and it works great. The Vision came with an immobilizer from the factroy but I wanted the convienance of keyless starting like I have on my cars.

I agree! or how about a carefully hidden syringe under the seat that dispenses something nasty and toxic? LOL!

Actually the Perimeter Sensor is more of an interest to me than the theft protection, if someone wants to steal Spydie, they will mange to do it, reason I have full replacement cots on the insurance.
I think the motion sensor will be a nice feature to have, when parked it will keep good intentioned lookers at a safe distance. If not and they are persistent, l receive a warning and can go out and investigate. Yes there is a range limit for the remote, but there again it will work for my needs 90% of the time.
