The dealer is san Luis is looking for a yellow one.

San Luis Motorsports 805-541-2200 Martin is who to ask for. He has an extra silver and needs a yellow for a customer.

I don't know all the legalities, but something to check into and watch out for is the tax. Since you and whoever trades with you would have the Spyder you originally received titled in your name, when you switched titles it would constitute a sale. Then when you went to get the new title in your name you would have tax from your state on that new vehicle I would think. I had a similar problem with a horse trailer that was titled in the name of a business that I owned. When I wanted to transfer the title of the trailer to myself personally as the business was closing, I found I would have to pay tax on the value of the trailer again. Even though I would be the owner and the owner of the business. They love to get you coming and going. So anyway, just some food for thought if you get any real offers. I wish you well in this endeavor.

Just switch the colored panels that would be the easiest thing to do.

That sounds like it would be the easiest.. then just go to the DMV and change the color on the title ( I know that is a free charge) do we all know how the VIN # breaks down and if the color is listed in the VIN?

If you swap even, there should be no tax in most states because the value is the same for both. They should give you the same tax credit just like if you traded it in.

Here in California the color of the vehicle is not indicated on the title.

The problem even with an even swap is that they don't recognize the tax you've already paid. They just charge you tax on the value of your new vehicle. And if you tell them you received a vehicle worth that much, now you have to be careful not to have that taxed as income. They will get you coming and going if you are not careful and don't check it all out first. Now if you can do this through a dealer and they handle everything as you mentioned like a trade in, then you are right it should be a wash. But I would think that could only be done through a dealership, not a personal swap. I am just guessing here, I do not know all the details. I think the swapping panels idea is the best. I just want everyone to get the Spyder they want with the least possible number of difficulties.

It's pathetic that the 3 people per dealership, that put in what colors they want months ago are in jepordy of which color will come. I know I am!

I figure if it works out I will just pick up my silver at the other dealer and the yellow can be picked up at my dealer I thought that would be easiest. Do all the paperwork and such just like that is the dealer you bought it from

Or we have the dealers trade them for us

That will work for me. I would be willing to bring to you if my dealer would let me do that. Will let you know soon. Sent you a PM with my phone number.

In Florida it is an even trade and there is no tax. If you trade with someone and the value of one item is more, then sometimes they will tax you on the diff, but in Florida, as long as trade is on the Bill of Sale, there is no tax.
