Hi folks,

Does anyone know the legal requirements for Spyder Ryding in France please.

My Spyder is U.K. Registered, and I know I need Europlates for it and an International Driving Licence is recommended, but I'm not sure about the following . . .
1. Are helmets required at all times?
2. Do the headlights have to be altered for driving on the other side of the road? If so, is this a dealer alteration or is it possible to do a DIY job?
3. Are we required to carry spare bulbs, a warning triangle and hi-viz vests?

Many Internet sites have information about motorcycle requirements, but none about trikes. I've tried contacting the Spyder dealer near Nice, but have had no response to date.

Our route is to be Chunnel -> Reims -> Troyes -> Dijon -> Lyon -> Orange -> Cannes/Nice and return

If anyone else has done this route by two/three/four wheels I'd be very grateful for any advice or pointers that you feel are relevant.

My main concerns are managing to re-fuel economically without getting lost if I have to venture off the autoroutes, the safety of the Spyder at over-night stops, the language barrier, and getting stopped by the police due to my ignorance of French law.

Thank you

Hello Guy,

Thanks for your response - I knew about the requirements to have lights on all the time. I ride my Spyder like that all the time anyway. I have a list prepared of people to contact who may be able to help with my enquiries, but I hadnt thought about tour companies! Good idea!
