Hi all,
I am an avid fan of adjustable steering dampers. Been riding for 40 years and I used them on most of the bikes I owned (dirt and street). When I purchased my Spyder I was somewhat disappointed I could not find one in the market. I understand the Spyder has hydraulic steering assist, but it's not the same as a rider-adjustable steering damper.
In any case. I contacted the guys from Precision Racing Products - http://www.precision-rp.com/ - and they answered they'd be happy to look into it, if someone brought a Spyder to their facility in Lodi, CA.
I'm all the way down in Florida, unfortunately. But I think the idea deserves the chance to be posted and hopefully, someone in Cali will help to roll this ball.
Whatdayatink?
Cheers.

If someone were willing to bring one by we would certainly take a look at it.

I don't know if a steering damper will be any use in FL. They are mainly for use on bumpy roads, where the front end on a motorcycle gets light under throttle. I don't ever see the front end of a spyder getting that light since the nanny kicks in when one wheel does get airbourne.

Hi
The Spyder does not have hydaulic assist - it is electric power steering and dynamic, meaning it puts in more power at low speed and less (or none) at high speed. I am not a professional mechanic but I believe any external form of steering damper would be completely impractical (apart from seeming totally unnecessary to me) and its just as likely that the computer, with its sensor inputs would "fight" the damping effect.
You see there is a steering angle sensor and a steering torque sensor. The steering angle sensor comparess the position of the front wheels to the centre line of the Spyder. The steering torque sensor detects the amount of torque when the steering is turned and varies the power input to suit. The harder the bars are tuned the more power it puts in.
I don't believe the people at precision have any idea how the dynamic power steering works or the computers that control it on a Syder or they would not have suggested to look at it.
Not wanting to seem negative but I think you are way off the mark here. I really would not play around with this steering system.
