need a little help have purchased 2011 rts , i want to pull and aftermarket trailer , dealer already installed hitch and bike harness,

the trailer i want to pull has a 5 pin , i know i can take the harness that ( plugs in on left rear ) i purchase from the dealer and cut the end off and splice it into the trailer.

i have been told the 2010 and 2011 bikes used different harnesses , anybody with a 2011 have the right part number and successfully hooked it up ?

appreciate the input , mike b.

The 2011 trailer is wired as a 4-wire. The 2011 Pole Harness (#710002442) makes the conversion from the Spyder's 9-pin (7-wire) cconnection to the 4-wire trailer. The early 2010 trailers were wired as 6-wire. The 2010 Trailer Tongue Harness (#710002029) was 7-wire. You can use it to make an adapter to 5-wire, or wire it directly into your 5-wire trailer, by not using the backup light circuit, and using just the right or left brake light wire. I won't guarantee that the 2010 harness is still available. Some buyers have had the 2011 harness substituted without their knowledge or consent.

There are other alternatives. You can purchase a 2010 Trailer Tongue Harness, if you can get one. The BRP store still lists them as available. You could buy the appropriate 9-pin Deutsch connector, pins, and crimp tool, and wire that to your trailer or make an adapter. You could try to modfy the 2011 Pole Harness, using Deutsch connector pins and adding a wire. You could change the amber turn signal lenses on your trailer to red, and change to a 4-wire connector, not using the brake wire circuit. You could also rewire the trailer for 4-wire. This is done the most simply by disconnecting the brake wire at each light, then moving the turn wires from the turn signal socket to the appropriate brake lights on each side.

i ordered the harness for my 2011 from the dealer today, parts guy stated mechanic told him , i will need a converter , did you run into this when wiring your trailer ? i decided to get a 4 pin trailer instead of 5 ( earlier post )
i dont know why i would if the trailer is 4 pin and the 2011 harness is set up 4 pin .
thanks

The 2011 Spyder will work with either harness, so if you get a 4-pole trailer you should be good to go. I'd worry a bit about your mechanic. The Spyder wiring harness that comes with the hitch has an isolation module built in. I have thought that the conversion to the 4-wire was done in the Pole Harness, but other owners have said it works without that, so I don't know. All I know is that is has worked and that the 2011 Pole Harness is 4-wire and hooks directly to the Spyder with no converter. I also can verify that the 2011 trailer operates as 4-wire. My 2011 Spyder works with all my trailers...4-wire, 5-wire, and 6-wire. The RT-622 can even be pulled with a 4-wire vehicle if you change the plug or buy the BRP adapter. I expect you will have no problems, but if you do, give me a shout and we'll work it out.

You will have to splice the pole harness (or tongue harness) into your trailer, or use it as the basis of an adapter to a mating trailer plug. I chose to make an adapter. The plug on the trailer end will have to be cut off, since it only mates with the RT-622 wiring harness. The pole harness will have the mating 9-pin plug on the Spyder end, to hook to the Spyder. The cable will be labeled with the wire colors and functions. These may not match your trailer. If necessary, have a local trailer shop help you. Most are wizards with trailer wiring. Be sure and leave enough "pigtail" to run along the hitch and attach to the Spyder. The trailer connector is farther away from the ball than on most tow rigs.
