[No 2817]

I have an '08 GS/rs. Premiere Edition No 2817. It just turned over 10,000 on mileage.

FOR HEAT
Did the front left exhaust pipe wrap with 2" wide wrap. Over lapped it 1.5" Almost took the whole 50 feet; had about 3 feet left over. I wrapped from the narrow front end to back where the spring is at the "Y". The exhaust pipe is doubled walled after the first 5" from the cylinder. I did not do the back exhaust because I did not think that it would help that much. (will get back later on well how this works)

MAINTENANCE BATTERY
Since all the "TupperWare" was removed for the above mod. I checked the the battery. Both battery terminals had corrosion on them. I disconnected each one in turn and wire brushed the corrosion off. I then smeared battery terminal jelly on each to prevent any further corrosion. (You should all check this)

MAINTENANCE EXHAUST GASKET
There are two exhaust gaskets shaped like 1.75 wide rings. Each one of these slips over the end of the exhaust pipe from each cylinder and then the "Y" pipe slips over the gasket. I have read that these gaskets wear out in as little as 7,000 miles so with out checking I ordered the replacement ones. The Honda GL1800 uses the same two gaskets. The part number is 18392-MAM-000. They are of better quality and will last longer. They priced out at $4.88 each. (pretty cheap, almost bought two extra) My right gasket had only 3/4 of the ring remaining; explains the exhaust smell on hard right turns. The left was fine but replaced both.

To my surprise the oil level was down a full quart! On July 8th I had the power steering pump recall done and the dealer replaced a faulty Oil sending unit. Do not know if this was the cause. Sure hope not. You would think if oil leaked out when replacing the sending unit it would have been replaced.

Do you have the Hindle exhaust on your spyder? Will be doing the heat wrap as a winter project. :0
