I was headed out on a week long trip when my 2010 touring model went into limp home mode after going 40 miles. I have been unsuccessful in getting a satisfactory answer from my dealer as to what to do other then bring the machine in, a 300 mile trip.

You should be getting a readout that tells you what your problem is - brakes, dps etc. It could be something as simple as a blown fuse, check those first, but otherwise it needs to go on the buds computer for a diagnosis.

Since the incident, it now runs fine with no indication of what the problem was, no fault indicators on at all. But I don't trust it not to do it again. Will it still have a readout if put on the computer at the dealer?
