I have a new 2011 RSS with e-shift (750 miles) After a long ride the other day on my way home the bike acted up ??? First it wouldn't shift from 1st to 2cd, then at a stop it didn't manually downshift past 4th.(after shutting it off and turning it back on it worked untill next stop, I had to shut it off 4 times to make it home) I was wondering if anyone else has had these issues?? I called my dealer who called BRP and they sugested the dealer reprogram the computer, I just hadn't seen any post related to this. I am the type if it could happen it WILL happen to me... :TgC_emoticon142: I hope the reprogram works.... I am missing my spyder about now :( can't get it in until next Wednesday,,, I am sure every day will be beautiful until then (like today is 90 and I had to take my car to work :wall: that sun roof just isn't the same.)

My wife bought a new 2010 RS a couple of months ago. It just recently started doing the same things. Has about 1000 miles on the ODO. It's in Jacksonville at a dealership right now to correct the problem. They called to say they found a defective downshift solenoid. I was really quite certain (from the stuff we've read on the forum) that the issue was software-related. There would be days that it would shift flawlessly, and others where it would start acting up after it warmed up to operating temperature. We'll be picking the bike up next week, so we'll find out then if it's actually fixed.

Picked up our Spyder in Jacksonville on Wednesday, June 15. Dealership changed out the downshift solenoid and changed the engine oil under warranty. I rode it first (for about 60 miles with the outside air temp hanging around 104 !!!), then my wife and I traded vehicles for the last 60 miles home (her first experience on a Spyder with temps over 100 degrees). Mixed driving on interstates, secondary roads and little bumpy country roads.

The bike shifted absolutely fine! Never once did it 'stick' in gear or refuse to upshift or downshift. Very pleasant to ride again, except for the fact it was so stinkin' hot outside.

I did a little research on the solenoid issue, and apparently, the replacements include a grounding wire that was not present on the original. The interference caused by the lack of grounding seems to give the electrical system fits and cause the shifting problems. Info came from Spyder forums, not from BRP or the dealer.

Best of luck with yours!

I've had similar trouble on my '08. It would be sporatic and you'd have to turn off the bike for it to reset. There is a service bulletin out for it. Initially the dealer had to piece together the wires to make the extra grounding wires, but by the time I could get mine in BRP made a kit for the fix. Since the fix I've never had any trouble. I thought they started adding the extra grounding wires to the newer models though, but it's worth a try to ask about.

Well, got my spyder back yesterday and so far so good :riding: shifting without any issues at all :riding: I guess it had 7 incidents recorded where it did not communitate properly and shift.... Hello :wall: that's what I was telling them  anyhow it is good now, I guess it was a ground wire and lack of communication between computer and transmission... so I guess the ground wire issue isn't quite fixed yet :TgC_emoticon142: i don't know I am just happy to have mine back :riding: :riding: :riding:
