I installed the JMCB-2003-CASPY this weekend on my SE5 Spyder. They will tell you that this kit can only be installed on an SM5, but I was able to use it with a few very easy modifications as follows:

1. PTT Button- is not on the head unit, but is an external button that on the SM5 mounts below the left grip. Since the paddle shifters are in that location on the SE5, I was able to mount the PTT to the RIGHT of the control assembly, unside down and facing the rider. This is about a 3" reach from where you hand normally sits, but since you aren't pulling a clutch lever in it should not be a problem. Also, there is a plastic spacer ring in that spot, I broke it out to get down to the actual bar so the PTT would fit.

2. Head unit- It was fairly easy to mount the head unit to the RIGHT handlebar (vice the recommended left side for the SM5). Instead of bolting the bracket onto the clutch mount, I used a stainless steel 'U-bolt' around the bar and through the bracket. I used JB Weld to attach a brass nut to the underside of the bracket for stability, painted it black so you don't even see it. The plastic spacer ring on this side also had to be broken out to get to the bar for the 'U-bolt' to fit around.

Overall, the installation that they told me couldn't be done on the SE5 looks clean, neat and very functional.

Also swapped out the 1' antenna they sent with the JMCB-2003-CASPY kit for a 3' whip....as I had little faith the 1' antenna would work worth a darn.

Hope this helps anyone else who has been considering putting a J&M CB on their SE5 !!

Kevin, I'd sure apprec some pics of your mount on the bar and a bit more detail on the antenna mounting. I have a standard J&M that I took off the bike I traded for the RT and I believe I can find a place somewhere on the bar to mount it, and a nice 3 ft whip antenna that I'd like to used if I could figure how to attach it. Whats under that poke out hole on the trunk? Perhaps I could order whatever antenn mounting part from Sierra if that is what is needed. If you would, post some pics, or email me directly: Clem@ptmc.net
