I bought a left over 09 spyder rs on Columbus day last year. I have put 700 miles on it so far. was going to schedule first oil change after this holiday weekend. went out for ride today and the front sprocket fell off. at first I heard a noise and all of a sudden had no power, but engine revs fine. then I hear the belt flapping. pulled over and saw the belt was just hanging there. thought the sprocket was gone, had to flatbed my spyder home. took the cover off and saw the sprocket was sitting there. the bolt was still on the shaft. has this happen to anyone before? how is the sprocket held on the shaft? can I just put the sprocket back on so I can get it to the dealers? I don't even know how I am going to get it to the dealers, I don't have a trailer.

First you have to ckeck if the Splins are OK.
There is a screw that hold the Sproket
And this Picture will help you.

thanks for your reply Suppentrlli, I finally had a chance to take body panels off and check into it further. I have check the splines, they are ok, the screw was still on the shaft when the pulley fell off and was very tight. but the pulley fell off anyway. I thought the washer got shear off, when I took the bolt off, I noticed there were no washer between the bolt and pulley. :TgC_emoticon142: maybe that's why it fell off. I don't understand why there were no washer on there. it was brand new when I bought the Spyder from the dealer. I took some pictures of what it looked like.

From Arthur---Mexico City
I know what you should do. Loosen the rear axle and its two tightening bolts that pull the rear axle towards the rear to tighten the belt. Once the axle is moved forward go out and buy the appropriate diameter washer that is of automotive grade, thick, and reinstall everthing using a Lock Tite product to secure the bolt once tightened to specification. If you want to know how to tighten and align the rear axle centering the belt correctly write me an email and I will sent you instructions. It's too much to write here. Since your Spyder is a low mileage vehicle the driver sprocket and belt should still be useable. Arthur Cohen, <xe1ll@prodigy.net.mx>

I rent helicopters and slings that can get your Spyder to the shop in no time flat. Problem solved! Someone in the Spyder factory forgot to install the missing washer. Arthur---Mexico City

Well I finally found and borrowed a trailer today. Got it to the dealers. They told me it should be covered under warranty. They are going to replace the sprocket, belt, bolt, and add the missing washer. can't wait till I get my spyder back.
