Has anyone been lucky to remove them and is there anything to put inplace of them.

I have seen them cut off, I didn't like the way it looked. Other than that I haven't seen anything else.

Just be sure you are not going to carry a passenger if you do away with them. On a two wheeler they might be a luxury for a passenger, but on a three wheeler, they are a necessity for a person on the back.

r/t 2010 have put on corbin back rest with passenger arms

I have a 2010 RTS & also added the full Corbin seat with passenger armrests.
Best thing to do is leave the passenger grab bars alone - they are a safety necessity.
