I live in Michigan where we don't have the lemon law but anyone know of options for someone who has a lemon? My spyder keeps stalling has been in two different shops, one for two weeks the other for a month....still stalling. About ready to take it to a third shop ... no one seems to know what is wrong with it. It's a serious safety issue.....
Thanks,
Steve

Have you contacted Carlo at BRP for assistance?

Michigan's Auto Lemon Law
The law applies to privately owned passenger vehicles and those leased after January 1, 2000, used for personal, family or household purposes. Some business-type vehicles may also be covered. The law does not apply to larger trucks, motor homes, motorcycles, or off-road vehicles.

It has spent this entire year in the shop with the exception of a few weeks at a time where I would have it long enough to determine that it needed to go right back.
I've spoken to Carlo, and more recently spoken to a Crystal who responded to my email to Carlo about a week ago. In the meantime it's sitting in the shop for another week with no word from anyone on what is going on with it.
I don't know if they are just completely overloaded with cases like mine, or if they are just THAT slow to act. It's long past the point of being ridiculous.
I understand that I'm under warranty and I'm not paying anything for all this work they are doing, but I'd like to actually be able to ride the thing once in awhile. The last time I was able to ride when it was actually running at 100% was nearly a year ago.
It's just unbelievable.
What are you hearing from Carlo or Crystal?

So that was a week ago and I haven't heard from her or the dealer, except when the guy that I know that works in service called me to find out how to disable the alarm without the key fob because they had somehow set it off even though it wasn't armed.
I guess tomorrow on my day off I am going to have to call and raise hell. again.
Well, that's too bad. I'm a "say what you're gonna do and do what you say" kind of guy...hate it when someone says they'll get back to be and don't.
Let us know how you make out.

Sorry to hear of all your problems. I would think Carlo could pull more than a 4 month Ext. on the warranty.
Disconnecting the battery will probably trip the alarm. (ask me how I know)
Good luck

Call your lawyer. There's recourse out there.

I don't understand how anyone who reads this fourm would buy a spyder. They are nothing but trouble, and ther's really nothing good to say about them. I had one for two years and was gald the day I sold it even that it cost me a lot of $$$$, but I'm glad to get rid of the darn thing and will try I talk anyone one out of buying one. If you have one sell it for what ever you can get out of the darn thing, if it hasn't gioven you trouble yet just wait, it will. They're all a piece of crap. Just my 2 cents.

That's not even close to being a true statement. I know there have been some bad ones...and I feel for owner's that got one. It's a very small percentage of Spyders that experience problems.
Last month we ran the Spyders In The Smokies rally in Gatlinburg and I saw almost 300 people with smiles on their faces because of their Spyders. Last weekend we ran the SpyderTalk VIP event at Ingles Performance and we had a huge tent full of happy Spyder owners.
Again, I'm not trying to minimize the problems that some have had, but it doesn't represent the vast majority of Spyder owner experiences.

I've read a lot of the 'problem' spyder posts on this forum and IMHO the dissatisfaction with the spyder is more a function of bad dealers than bad product.
Basically it seems if the dealer steps up to the plate and has competent mechanics, good scheduling and knows how to play the BRP warranty game then people are happy.
These vehicles are complicated.
Unfortunately in some cases it's like buying a new Mercedes from the corner gas station.
My advice is to shop for a dealer then shop for a spyder.
My two cents worth.

Got mine delivered to me today. Didn't make it out of my subdivision before I discovered the power steering was not woking again, and the idle is still rough...
They are on their way to pick it back up now.
You got a bad one and that sucks. I understand your bad experience with your spyder is the basis for your comment above. But, if I use the same logic I would say All of them are good because I have 10,000 miles on Spyders with no problems at all.
Most are good...I wish you hadn't gotten a problem Spyder and I wish your dealer was better dealing with your problems.

I don't understand the logic either. Seems like they would want you on a different Spyder.
...and I was going on more than my own experiences too. I know and ride with quite a few Spyder owners

I have 19,000+ miles on mine. No issues yet. I agree with Marc that we all sympathize with those that have problems on theirs. I would be upset if I had the number of issues that some have had but to say most have had problems is simply not true. The doctor sold his spyder over a year ago which is his prerogative. However his every post since then seems to be very negative and I get tired of the generalizations.

See, you guys are seeing the other side of the coin. Not very many people with a Spyder like mine would make a trip to go to an event like SITS. There have been 3 SITS events since I've had mine, 2 of the years mine was in the shop, the other I would not have trusted it to make a 50 mile trip, much less 500+.
Again, not trying to be overly negative here, but those events are going to be filled with mostly reliable rides. ;)
