I consider the gauge a rough estimate and rely on miles to determine when to fill up. I conservatively figure on 5.5 gallons to for full tank and 33 MPG (which is my average) so I know 180 miles is about the range I am comfortable with. I usually gas up at 150ish.

Don't expect to get much more than 15 to 20 miles when that last bar disappears.

On our August trip we made a detour to Mesa Verde thinking there would be gas there. There wasn't. 20 miles after no bars put 5.4 gal in.
Sounded pretty empty when the first gas started going in. wingie

I tried it omce, took extra gas with me. I drove it like I normally do and got just over 40 km.

Hope this helps

set one trip meter at zero when you fill up, regardless of what the fuel gauge says you are good to 150 miles, depending on ryding terrain (uphill and speed) I always shoot at 170 miles for the fill up knowing that I had no head wind - up hill roads or above 70 mph. remember your ryding habits will determine your safe mark betwen 150 - 170 miles per tank.:riding:

I average 30 MPG so 180 in max for me on the RT, now the GS is better 170 - 190 miles per tank.:riding:
