Well I finally have had enough. From day 1 my Spyder surges out into traffic at idle while at lights or intersections. With my son son the back ,no less. In higher but not hottest days it is rough running. In 2 years I have only amassed 1,300 miles due to safety and dealer service downtime. My Spyder is now in for p0351 error and lost almost all power during ride. I am in the 6th week of waiting as Can am swaps and replaces one component at a time.My call to Can Am was ended with a promise to have a rep call me back and they never did.I have been given every excuse that man can create .Everything from "we are just about to work on it" to " Can Am sent us the wrong ecm" to "It takes two weeks for Can Am to respond to the dealer".
Conceptually the bike is beautiful. My brother is now on his second machine. And he is now regretful that he moved up to the RT. It is hideously underpowered and will not downshift on it's own.Of course the stock statement "we can't find the problem with our software" is being familiarly given to us once more.I regretfully must conclude that my attorney has now proceeded with the Ohio Lemon Law process.I have low expectations in this regard but only a fool would continue to make thousands of dollars in finance payments for a machine that can't be safely ridden. Those 1,300 miles of local town riding with no confidence to get the thing on a roadtrip were very expensive miles.I couldn't sell it if I tried.

PS Can Am you may now stop inviting me to Spyder events that I could,nt possibly get to.Thanks for 2 years of nothing

I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune. My wife is actually on her second sypder, after having tried 2 wheels briefly, and loves it. The 08 SM5. She's logged over 8k between the two. The first one gave us no problems at all while the second has shown an issue we're currently investigating, but nothing serious. I would hope that BRP would try and make things right with you.

Good luck with your case, I hope things work out for you.

I too am trying to understand what you are saying about surging into traffic. Are you saying when you turn the throttle a little it is trying to go to full power or near full power? Or is it a steering problem that is pulling or trying to pull you into other traffic lanes?

Also if this machine is having safety issues please report it to the NHTSB. I believe they have a form on their site for you to fill out. Filing a report may save someone from a serious or fatal accident.

Thanks for posting your information... maybe someone on the forum sites may have a answer to your problems. Ken krb1945

i believe what he is talking about is the same thing i experienced on a loaner rt from my dealer while they built me a new rt-s
when coming to a stop it wanted to keep going until you held the brake down and it would stall out
didnt happen every time, but was a real nuisance when it did

FWIW..... I too agree 110%. The Spyder on paper is, a wonderful machine. Unfortunately, it is it's own worst enemy. NANNY, poor engineering, poor assembly, Brakes, Clutches, and not to mention the anemic power plant, and poor MPG. The list goes on. I really wish it would have been..... more.. reliable, stable, efficient, quiet (brakes) and gasoline fume free.

I DID have a great time when it was running. I sold mine to some poor soul in Ohio, who just sold it again.. in less than 6 months!

I DID learn a few things too... I learned I am able to ride and have fun. I am able to enjoy the "motorcycle" ride. And I learned that Honda makes a great bike, the NT700V.

Shaft drive, 52MPG, V Twin 700, Fairing, Bags.... etc... look it up for yourself. That is what I got when I sold the Spyder. Not ONCE has there been a recall, patch, update, or issue with it. The brakes are quiet, it has ABS, and I can carry about as much as I did on the Spyder.

And, for those that know what I am talking about...... it LEANS in the twisties!

Again, it is sad..... I wanted it to work out. I put my hard cash down too... and was optimistically disappointed. Mine was in the shop for 3 of the 10 months I owned it... and it was for the same thing... I could have done the lemon law, but was nauseated when I looked at it, so I just wanted it gone.

Ok.... enuf of the rant....

I really feel for you, I would be truly disappointed if this had happened to me. I am lucky and can say that I have never been stranded because of mechanical problems; I have 17800km on it in 16 months. I am curious to know if the dealer you purchased it from is a full blown BRP dealer or do they have other products that they sell. The reason that I am asking is that In Quebec Canada the dealers are only allowed to sell BRP products and nothing else. So when you have a problem they take it seriously and your ride does not spend weeks in the shop. I only had to leave it overnight once. They usually repair it while I am waiting.
This said we are fortunate because the factory where they are made is about a 1 1/2 hr ride from home.

You should do some looking around for a better dealer with a serious service department.

Robert.

Actually... no. It actually quit running at the 1st fill up he made on his way out of the state! Called me and was mad. I told him, to place one of the keys away and then start it up with the other.. it was the fact that both keys were in the same area. What a POS. Anyway... I have over 15,500 miles on the Honda NT 700 V and on my 3rd set of tires. Been all over! NOT ONCE HAS IT BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR A RECALL, PATCH, UPGRADE, REPROGRAM or ANYTHING. Brakes are quiet and clean. Shaft drive. AVG 49.9MPG and 5.2 Gal tank. I can go CONSISTENTLY over 200 miles on a tank. Never, in a million years... could the sypder do that... ever... never.

Speaking of Shaft drive, congratulations, on giving the poor soul from Ohio the shaft. You, my friend, are real piece of work. I think, if I did that, I would be ashamed to show my face on this forum again. But obviously, you have no shame.

To be clear, the spyder was completely up to date on all patches, recalls and JUST had a new instrument cluster installed because the 1st one warped from the sun. The not starting at the 1st fill up, was due to the both of the keys in the same area. He physically walked away with a key, laid it down, went back and it started right up. It ran fine. It HAD issues and I resolved all of them prior to him purchasing it. I also only asked for 11,500 in 2009.... which was cheap then. I just wanted it gone. If you took the time to read my other posts and form a complete reply, you would have known about all this.
