To all RT owners (and maybe would-be RT owners).

I've learned that in addition to my RTS having a serious electrical problem, there are at least 5 others. The dealer has been given no curative solution by BRP. My machine has been in the shop for approaching 14 days.
I want to know if there are more and what your dealer and BRP are doing about it and your customer satisfaction.

Simple Details: Within an hour of delivery, my machine had lost tail lights, brake lights, back up lights and all turn signals. Strangely, the situation temporarily corrected itself until one day, the cruise would not work and it went into limp mode...not a safe situation if you're on a high speed road...which I was not at the time but it certainly screwed up travel plans. Lights were lost again at this time as well. This is an issue which renders the machine completely un-roadworthy, not to say a poor tourer.

If you have any similar experience, please let me know. I'm NOT a 'happy camper' to have traded my RS for this $28,000 unit. BRP has not responded the way they should.

I have also had problems with my RT LTD. Check engine, check DPS, and Limp Home screens have gone off over 6 times. At the dealers again, this time I had it towed. Very disappointed with BRP and this machine. Had a 2009 and it was great, never any problems and I traded it in on this "LEMON". BRP is sending a tech to the dealership ,where I now have the machine , tomorrow and I hope they will do something. I now have over 1000 miles on it and most of them have been back and forth to the dealership for these problems. I will know more tomorrow. Purchased it on Sept 14th.

My 2011 RT has had the same issue with Check Engine Light, it is back at the dealer (3rd Time). Daytona dealer found the issue at Biketoberfest but couldn't get the part in on time, St Augustine Dealer ran thru the diagnostics replaced some recall stuff, sent me on my way, and I got stuck again in Daytona this past weekend, same thing, worse this time with Limp Mode, sometimes it was fine other times would not run, until I turned it off left it for about 20 minutes and came back. It is back at the dealer, it is the Throttle Body, BRP is aware of this, the dealers should replace this part before they let anyone leave the store. It is a known issue NOW. The dealer finally told me yesterday they have replaced 3 of them, sooooooooooooo, why didn't they do that the last time they had it, as I told them what it was. I'm not very happy with my dealer, but stupid me bought the extended service with them, so at least all my service is free for 3 years and they have to pick up and deliver to me in JAX. I'm hoping this is the last time..............

I lusted after this machine for so long and finally bought one in October. The dealer seemed competent and knowledgable enough.

On the way home, it went into limp mode. From reading this site, I made the assumption that it was probably from riding the break or something. Shut it down and restarted with no problems. A couple of months later, the check engine light would come on every second or third time that you started it. I took it in and asked that they check things out. The diagnosis-it needed a firmware update.

A couple of months later, the problem has persisted in addition to the display needle on the tachometer scratching the glass. After being without my bike for 2 1/2 weeks, I find that they have had to replace the entire display and the throttle body.

A couple of months go by and the bike is showing the same signs again except that now it occasionally just shuts off. This is a bike with less than 1500 miles on it!

I have been planning a cross country trip (Fort Worth to San Diego) with my 10 year old son this summer. I certainly don't have any faith that this bike is going to make it reliably. I've put a call into my dealer explaining the problem and my frustration. I let them know that I believe that I have a lemon and that I'm very disappointed in this very expensive purchase.

The dealer is sympathetic and has apparently reached out to BRP. Now I need to figure out how to safely get my RT up to the dealer so they can work on it again.

At this point, I'm afraid that the only thing that is going to make me feel secure is replacing the bike. It seems like the Spyder RTs fall into two categories. They're either wonderful machines that give people thousands of miles of happy Ryding or they are problematic POS's that spend more time getting serviced than getting ridden.

How has BRP been on getting the problematic Spyder owners securely back on the road and enjoying their RTs again?

I too have had problem since I bought my RT-S and plan on trading it in after they fix it this time. I have been in the repair business for over 30years and BPR has the worst customer service I have ever seen. I have had 4 close call due too this bike dieing out or out of no where it goes in to limp mode. My dealer alway tells me there is an update program for it. We will see if it works when I pick it up???
