Up until a short time after I got my Spyder, I enjoyed being flashy and getting attention on my Spyder, and my customized bike. For some reason something clicked inside me, and I just don’t care any more. I don’t enjoy the poker runs, parade rides, group rides, and events as much any more. What I do like, is, just getting on my bike with my wife on her Spyder and we just head out to a nice distant little spot to take in the scenery.
How about you folks?
Keep in mind this poll is not about technical reasons such as limited mobility, because we do understand there are some of you that have this issue and the Spyder is a more stable choice then some of the other pickins out there.

I didn't vote because my answers didn't fit the options well. I do enjoy being a little "one off". I don't buy something because it's the most popular and if everyone else has one then I am less likely to want it. With that said, I am not an attention seeker necessarily. I don't shy away from it and I enjoy talking with lots of different people, thus the websites, but my favorite rides are usually with a friend, my wife or son out to a destination (usually good food) and back. I would rather take the backway and take longer than pound the interstates and get somewhere fast. I like taking in the scenery and I don't mind stopping to shoot the breeze along the way.
At the end of the day, I like the Spyder because of its performance, safety and "fun factor". The Rock Star kind of thing adds to the "fun factor" I guess, but it's only part of it. There are days I leave my helmet on while pumping gas because I don't feel like giving the entire speech. Other days, I'll stop and talk to strangers for 30 minutes just because they are intrigued by the Spyder.
Did I answer your question or am I just rambling

Marc, the site admin, expressed my thoughts exactly. I also did not vote. Thanks MARC!

You probably aren't going to like this answer, but as a 62 year old who hasn't ridden a bike in 30 years, and only one weekend then, I wanted the ease, safety, and comfort of the Spyder RT. The fact that it is a head-turner, and really cool is an added bonus. Also, not needing to get a motorcycle license was an important factor. My physician partners think I'm a bit crazy, but I an see hints of envy in their eyes. My next door neighbor at our mountain home has 7 Harleys including 2 40's vintage knuckleheads and a '37 flathead, and he thinks my Spyder is ultra-cool. He would love to take it apart to see how it ticks. One of my self-deprecating jokes about the bike when asked what it is, I tell them "a Harley with training wheels."

Good answer Doc. Only a very few "too cool" Harley guys have turned up their noses at my Spyder. The vast majority give a thumbs up and want to know more about it.

I'm happily back on two wheels now, but I still think the Spyder is a cool machine. I bought one because it was a very different - and fun - riding experience. I didn't crave attention, but I didn't mind it either. It was fun answering questions from interested folks.
Cheers,
Bruce

I purposely didn't use the term "popular", so I think you missed the essence of the poll. After reading you comments, there is definitely a group of answers that fit your take.

There is no reason why I wouldn't like your answer, because I expected at least one person to say what you just said. So the poll wasn't really geared toward you folks.

I don't know dawg. This seems like a weird poll to me. I voted but then I saw the results and the comparison between the first question and the last and something didn't look right. Whatever...Yess! I love to be different but NOT to bring attention to myself. Just to be a maverick. The Spyder fits the bill quite well. The first time I saw her on the net I knew it was love at first bite (byte?) ... whatever!
And if we live life without a passion, then we're not living.

I too enjoy riding my bike and since I bought my wife her spyder, we don't enjoy it much any more. It's been problematic and she'll end up back on the back of my bike soon.

I bought it for my wife because she wanted it. I, as any good husband, said yes dear.
Additionally she had uterince cancer. The treatment for it included radiation that hurt her hips. She cannot comfortably hold up a 2-wheeler in the wind. A regular trike is too unstable for her. This fit the bill. Yes Dear.

I think the most important reason for buying the spyder is to just have fun, relax and enjoy the road. Some people are going to like it and some wont. Its like everything else, you can't please everyone and at some point you learn not to try. I bought my spyder because it allowed me to ride be comfortable and share something with my wife. Now the fact that its the coolest thing on three wheels only adds the fun. The more people stop trying to compare the spyder to a 2 wheeled motorcycle the better we all are. The spyder does its own thing, and it does it well. I rode in a poker run a few weeks ago and after an hour or so the group we were with wanted the spyder up front pulling into the finish, it was really cool. Enjoy your spyder for whatever reason you bought it!....

May I suggest that this is "the coolest thing on less than 4 wheels".

Bill, I can't help noticing your mpg window. On my trip from Huntsville to northern VA., then back down to SITS and then home, I averaged just a tad over 35 mpg on my RT... and this included the "Dragon" run. I was pleasantly surprised.

I didn't vote either. However.....I have bought 6 new Harleys since 2003 including 2 CVO's. Also 2 new Suzukis and a scooter. The Suzuki Bandit is an insanly fast naked bike that I ride once in a while. My Harleys have been electra glides. The seat height has gotten to within an inch of my inseam and I am just not confident riding 2 up any more. I traded my 2008 ultra classic in on a 2011 softail heritage classic with a 5 inch lower seat height and much lower center of gravity. On the same day I bought a used 2008 Spyder from Doug's Power Sports in Cortland NY and now my wife rides with me again. Now I ride it all the time. The Suzuki is for sale and the Harley just sits. I'm not ready to leave the Harley culture yet, but Can-Am seems to have almost the same kind of cult following. (I mean this in a good way) I am looking forward to riding 2 up with much less stress and meeting some fine folks with similar interests. I must admit the Spyder draws a crowd in a parking lot. Even people who aren't really interested in motorcycles. I will probably get an RT. I do like the toots and whistles.
