does anyone out there feel they need a sixth gear or have tried to change into a 6th gear, or is it just my imagination? i have a 2008 se5,there must be out there some were after market sprockets available to give that overdrive feeling. i had the same problem back in 1974 with a new 1000cc hd sporter but fixed it easily with changing sprocket sizing, but the spyder with all the speed sensors and electronic etc that may effect on board computer sensing.let me know what you think

I put a 30 tooth front sprocket on the Spyder last weekend to early to say if makes much difference but the revs have dropped down so cruising is much easier on the motor I will let you know after we have taken the Spyder for a long ride.

I fitted a 30T sprocket too last weekend in preparation for 4-day excursion next weekend and a trip to the red centre and Darwin in winter. They're a bit expensive - I tossed up whether it was really worth it as you can buy a lot of fuel for $260 but I thought 400-500 less RPM would be a good thing and the slightly reduced fuel consumption would eventually pay for it. Note that Spyder is a little easier to stall from a standstill. Here's where you get it.

Sixth gear might be nice, but the tradeoff to replace one forward gear with the reverse gear was well worth it for me. Not having the sixth gear, for me at least, helps me stay a little more mindful about my speed. I'm definitely more comfortable on the Spyder at a lower speed than I was on two-wheelers. I also like the acceleration response at highway speed in fifth, when cruising through hilly terrain, and when 2-up. It's tempting to try the sprocket change, but will probably just stay stock.
