This past Sunday, I lost my License Plate light. Well, I replaced it last night.

You cannot just buy the little reflector housing that covers the light bulb. You have to purchase the whole assembly, the Housing, the Reflector, the light bulb, the wiring harness. It all comes in one package. Here is the Part number if you need it.

Part number: 710001291

I was going to put the new reflector on, but after examining my old housing unit. I found that it was also cracked in a few places (I must have really hit it hard with my head, when I was changing the rear tire). Therefore, I decided to replace the whole unit. It is not difficult, just time consuming.

This is how I did it.

1. Remove the rear Wheel well cover.
2. Remove the Swing arm cover (its on the right side of the bike, it covers Brake line, VSS magnet cables, License Light wires.
3. Cut the 2 Zip ties on the inside of the Rear Right Fender Support.
4. Remove the Wires from the holding clip. Located on the inside, of the Rear Right Fender Support. Do not cut. You need to re-use.
6. Now, that you can see the wiring harness in is entirety, disconnect the connector for inside the wheel well on the left had side.
7. Remove the License plate
8. Remove the rear fender.
9. Remove the Lighting assembly. Now the support bracket under the rear fender will also come off. This makes mounting the assembly and running the wiring harness through that support bracket much easier.

Now comes the hard part. If you paid, attention to what you were doing you should be able to put this back together in no time at all.

I hope you do not have to do this, but good luck if you do.

Hey tony, remember the first time I meet you last year and we road to anahiem for the toy run, I lost my tail light lens on the way down there, lou hooked me up with a used one and saved me some buck. The thing that sucked about loosing the lens was that I had gone over as many nuts and bolts on spyddy as I could and snugged them up, but it still fell off. Lots of lock tight this time and its not going anywhere. Word to the wise, you might want to pull the screw that holds that lens on and lock tight it, the rear end bounces and viberates alot and the taillight assy is not cheap.

Yes, I do use lock tight. However, when I was changing out my tire. I hit the thing with my head. The screw was still there. I lost the cover. I essentialy cracked the cover where the screw attaches, there was still a little pit of plastic around the screw.

I reccommend being careful not to bump that cover.

Be carefull using liquid blue loctite as it will disolve the black plactic around the screw, it happened to a few of us out their. I did the Walmart replacement, search Spyderlovers forums for directions.

Forget the Locktite and use a blob of silicone on the screw. It does not eat plastic and will let go if you have to remove the lens.
