Hi all.
I plannning a spyder ride to Melbourne for x-mas. :) Rang Hervey Bay rep for spyders to book in for service. Apparently it will cost up around $800 as it needs to have valves done??? Any comments??? Seems like low km's to be playing with valves..... my FZ6 was just done at 50k...
cheers

Just had my 12000 mile service - yes they recommend the valves be checked on this service - and mine were checked and all within spec. Tech told me he has seen only one Spyder at 12000 miles that needed valves adjusted. And the price here was 6-700 hundred u.s. Make sure they check the Y gaskets on the exhaust - listed in the owners manual to replace at 12000 and mine burned out just before. Annoying to schedule the service and then they were out of stock. ended up replacing them myself. Not a hard job but would have been so much nicer on my manicure if they had been done by the tech when he had it all apart anyway. :)
Sounds like you have a great Christmas holiday planned. Enjoy!

You are talking about 12,000 miles which still sounds too conservative to me. Both my Triumph Triples were "40,000 KMs before valves were checked. Kym is talking about 10,000 KMs, which is only 6,000 miles. Way to soon in my humble opinion. But, who knows?

My Valves had to be adjusted at the 6,000 mile service (Before BRP changed). With over 40,000 miles on the bike now. It has not needed the adjustment at any of the 12,000 mile services.

Its best to have them checked and not need an adjustment. Than to not have them checked, and fail while you are on the road...

There was some confusion back in the fall of 2007, originally BRP had stated the valves to be checked at 6k miles, they soon revised it to the current 12k mile recommendation.

Both the operators manual and service manual state that the first valve check is at 10k klms then every 20k klms. Just had the 10k service including valve check on my spyder cost just short of $400.00
Ride? - OK

Wow, looks like my $800 is a bit excessive..... maybe i will drop into canberra for the service on our way through :)

trumpybob - agree that it seeems way too soon when compared to other bikes. Will ask Mr Google about valve checking recomendations on aprilla motors to see when their service schedule is.

I just checked the Aprilia forum, (http://www.apriliafo...ad.php?t=149342), and it seems they are having the same sort of discussion on there forum as here. Looks like Aprilia recomend checking valves at the FIRST service,(1000Kms) and then every 12000Kms.

If the valves are off too much it will start hard.

I'm having mine done now as part of the 20000km service. My dealer (Prorider, Sydney) was aware that BRP had changed their recommendation when I had the 10000km service done a few months back.

I'll be able to let you know the cost after I pick it up this afternoon.

Cheers;

Pogo.

Sorry to take so long getting back to you. The total cost of my 20000km service was $753. It would likely have been $800, but I supplied the gaskets for the Y pipe, rather than wait for stock to come in.

Cheers;

Pogo.
