Price of the New RT Models

This is my first post on this forum, and I have joined because I want to buy an RT in the New Year.
I note that the price in USA is being Quoted at $24,999 for the RT-S and in Australia at $40,000+.
Does anyone know what the breakdown of expenses the importer has to get the RT to market in Australia, because given the exchange rate at the moment the quoted price seems exsessive.
Is it genuine cost recovery or is it profiteering?

I hate to answer your questions with questions, but . . .
What is the exchange rate to convert US$ $25000 to A$?
What would it cost to ship a 900 (+packaging) pound device of the shape and size of a Spyder from Canada to Oz?
Are there taxes and other charges that Oz might charge to import something from Canada?
If you can answer those three questions you can then determine whether there is a ripoff happening.
Also, try comparing the US cost of a (say) Harley to the A$ cost of the same model.

$25k US is currently around $27,000 US. We have a free trade agreement with the US meaning no duty but I am not sure re Canada.
We already know that you can buy BRP product cheaper from the US on EBay than locally. One rider here replaced a damaged belt - $758 Aud from Australia and $326 AUD from the US plus around $50 freight. Thats a "no brainer"
I think you will find that a top of the range Goldwing sells in Oz for around $43-45,000 so that is where they would aim the RT - I think its more placing it in the market against the competition rather than "what does it cost to land here".
Bottom line is - what difference does it make because you wont change things and I sure would not be tempted to try and import one privately?

It's economy of scale, Australian market for Spyders is 200 - 300 units per annum... maximum. It's oportunistic, there is no real competition. It's capitalism at it's very best. BRP Australia will be purchasing these units at a wholesale price of approx US$20,000. Freight to Australia is no more than US$500 per unit (I have firm quotes for this) with the current exchange rate and GST (tax), the RT will land in Australia for around AUS$24 -$25K. So that will leave around $15000 margin to cover national distribution, wholesale margin, retail margin and warranty costs. Those that really want it will pay that price, if you can't afford it look on the bright side.....at least we don't have a recession!!!!

Apparently there are three different Specs fo the RT. According to the dealer the prices are 33,000 38,000 and 44,000 Aus Dollars.

Hey Gazey, weather's improving, when are we going for another ride? Caught up with Janice at the Spyder Experience (moved from W.A. to New Norfolk) I don't think she will take too much encouragement to join us. No, I'm not getting an RT (at least in the foreseeable future. Too expensive for my taste at the moment. I've added about most of what I want at the moment. Just fitted a Madstad adjustable screen and finally fitted an MCCruise cruise control. About the only thing I'm thinking of adding now is the heavier sway bar.
