I have a silver and black 08 Spyder and I was just wondering why the black plastic scoop that is inside the silver panel on the right hand side is designed the way it is. Now it catches the air coming from the front of the bike and forces it out the side wouldn't it be better if the scoop was the other way forcing air in to help cool and drive the heat away or just remove it and cover the opening with a wire mesh with large openings or with the metal spider web one company has made? I assume (I know I shouldn't ) that BRP has the scoop the way it is for a reason, perhaps to protect parts or whatever. What do you know or think about this.

The scoop is to divert the hot air from the radiator away from your foot and lower leg. It was added after the early demo rides brought complaints of excessive heat on the right foot/leg.
