Heyy Y'all
Has anyone installed Heli handlebar risers on thier Spyder yet. I am looking at putting a set on mine and was wondering how difficult the install is. Did Heli send decent (lots of details) install instructions. Same questions about the highway peg mounts. I am wanting to have them on before Gatlinburg, so any info would be a great help. Thanks.

I have the HeliBar riser installed. I never saw the kit -- as I had my dealer order it and install it -- so I cannot comment on the install nor the instructions provided. I know that the Heli folks told my dealer that it would take about 3.5 hours for the first one they did and less than 2 hours for subsequent ones.

From what I see on the two forums, just removing the handlebars is a bit of a task because of the hard to reach bolts underneath.

I LOVE my HeliBar setup. I don't know how I survived the 1st 700 miles without it. I now have about 3,200 miles.

I just verified with Jenifer at Helibars and they will be offering free instalation of the Helibars for the Spyder at Gatlinburgh, if one purchases the power supply option, their will me a installation charge for that.

Also their will be a customers Spyder present with the Helibars installed on it, so owners can see what they look like installed.

I installed the pre-production unit on the Corbin Syder, Helibars have made a couple of small changes, but the pics will give you the basics of the installation.

I have the Heli bars and really like them. They sure do make it a lot nicer to drive with them, you can actually sit back and upright instead of leaning forward a little. It used to kill my left thumb because of having to lean forward but not now. The reason I went with the Heli bars is because I didn't want to cut the original bars. I add a 12v outlet in the middle of the bars where the ignition key used to be before the Heli bars are installed. It sure is nice and handy having the outlet right in front of you, it's easy to plug and unplug anything.

Mel's Monster Garage has a real nice set up for mounting highway pegs ($89.95).
Here is his website, (when the page loads it plays Bad To The Bone) so turn your speakers off or on depending what you like. He doesn't have his Spyder accessories listed yet so I'll try to upload a picture from his flyer that I received when I bought his 29 tooth drive sprocket. Which by the way I now have to drive in 3rd gear at speeds I normally would have been in 4th. It dropped my 5th gear about 500 rpms. It weighs about half as much as the stock sprocket and is anodized to 65 (whatever the term is). The hardest part was realigning the rear wheel. I wish BRP had been thinking when they designed this part and put some hash marks or so sort or reference points so you would know when it is straight. If you don't have the wheel straight the disc brake usually squeaks when you spin the wheel. When I was doing the belt tension I gave it less than what the manual says and my howling between 18 and 25 has disappeared. I guess I found the sweet spot.

Thanks for the info. I will be getting my risers installed in Gatlinburg. I've already installed my Corbin seat, and my highway pegs and mounts are on order. All that is left is getting my helmet wired for mp3 and cell phone and I will be set for the trip.

Scotty,

How did they worked out for you? I am kinda curious about both products and would like to know your experience. Thanks!

To Scott, I installed the Helibar handlebar mover backer on my 2008 Spy together with the OEM raiser. The Helibar kit is an excellent product. It takes some 3 hours to install but once installed it is solid and doesn't detract from your Spy's handling. It improves your confort. The handlebar lock contiues to work as it originally did, as it came from the factory. In my case my back stopped hurting, but I also insatalled foot rests taht moved my feet forward about 7". Helibar said that there is sufficient accelerator cable length to do what I did but I found that the cables were now a bit too short, tight, so I purchased two 6" longer cables from Bennett that solved the problem. The Helibar extension does not look like an "add on". It's the Spy color and it's professionally made. I can only praise Helibar for a well made product.

I had the ones that you had to cut the bars and I tried the 3" and 4" and never could get comfy. We ordered new handlebars and Heli Risers and I loved them. I traded my RS for an RT so I have a set of Heli Risers we took off my 2008 RS that I would sell. We can provide help with installation, my husband is an expert at it by now. I will take $150 for them plus $6 shipping, we are also in Tennessee.
Never take "no" from someone who has no authority to say "yes".

I installed the Helibar riser on my SE5 Spyder and it stopped my back pain and allowed me to ride for at least 2 hours without having to stop "to recover". The Helibar is a very well thought out addition to your Spyder. It doesn't look like a bolted on after thought. It is the most important alteration that I made on my Spyder.
