HAULING THE SPYDER

I have been reviewing my choices for trailering the SpYder around.
I could get a general utility trailer with ramp for about $1,500 and add about $200 to make it work with the SpYder.
I could bet a similar all aluminum utility trailer with ramp for about $2,000 and add about $200 to make it work with the SpYder.
I could get one that is more exotic http://www.adventuresportsproducts.com/ind...ort-Transports2 for about $5,000 complete. This one does a curtsy (sp?) and lowers itself so you can drive on with no separate ramp -- and has lots more positive virtues including a rock shield and a properly sprung ride. Lots of money -- but . . .
Does anyone have any experience with this AST2 (now AST3 is for the SpYder -- I am told) trailer?
Thanks,
Bill Gargan

I would love to hear of your experiences. I had noticed this thread before. Somehow I thought you had built this thing from scratch and were simply making changes and improvements to your original design.
Not sure who Jim is -- but, I am in Madison, NH. My nearest regional distributor is in Wilmington, MA and my nearest sales agent is in Steep Falls, ME. It is this guy in ME that I have been chatting with.
He tells me that they only recently added the AST3 to the line and the website is not yet updated.
Thanks,

yep, own design ... the roll up sides are handy, you can easily get to the bike from all sides, without having to open the backdoor and crawl next to the bike to get at the front .... is also less weight ... I can also get the little trailer off easily .... security is the only thing ... but they can't steal the spyder from the side ... and the back ramp has a lock ....

Unfortunately, she would rather ride her bike when we travel, not on the back of mine. Anyway, you can't go wrong with it. Wanna buy mine???

To each his own. I rode mine 3000 miles to California and trailered it 300 miles to SITS. My wife really doesn't get a kick out of riding 8 hours a day so when she goes, we trailer.

I went the open 6 X 12 ft commercial way with four 15" wheels. This is my third trailer and this is the charm, as the saying goes. Down here it cost me about $1,600.00. It came with a folding ramp that was covered with 14 guage expanded, for lack of the correct word, metal that I replaced with aluminum diamond finish sheet metal as the trailer's floor came. I also installed an electric winch to pull up either my HD s/c or my Spyder and another winch to handle the folding ramp. So as not to void the guarantee of my car I didn't tap into the car's electrical system for current. I spent $50.00 on an auto battery and $20.00 for #8 cables and a suitable conector. This is carried in the rear of my car. About all I do is push buttons. It takes me 10 minutes to load and another 10 minutes to unload. The 4 wheels corrected the sway I had from the two previous 2 wheeled trailers and I can drive ANY speed I want. I know four 15" wheels is overkill but there is no sway anymore. Arthur---Mexico City

I use a trailer that I purchased for my Harley-Davidson Street Glide. It's a 6 X 10, single axle, made by Pace. It has the rear drop down door/ramp. I installed tie down devices on the floor, and use them to strap down the Spyder. The only draw back, is that the width of the door opening is just 1 inch wider than the outside of the Spyder's width. So I have to be careful when loading. The nice thing though, is that it stays dry and protected, and it's pretty secure. I also installed hooks and shelves in the trailer to hold and store all the related riding gear and apparel. Hope this helps.
