Your Ride:nothing for now but...
Posted 01 June 2009 - 04:44 PM
Ok everyone. I am trying to get some form of statistics on reliability concerning the Can AM spyder. I have a background in some statistical reaserch in the past, so i am trying to get a valid analysis concerning spyders with at least 2000 miles on them. In order to make the analysis as representative as possible, i would INSIST EVERYBODY VOTE because too many people not voting will decrease dramaticly the precision of the stats that i will gather from the poll..
So, I expect the same number of vots than of visits to the topic...
Can't wait to see the numbers, remember, we don't have any other stats from other machines to compare to , so interpretation will be very difficult. I will outline limitations and downfalls of the analysis once stats are in.
Thanks, Rash

excellent...
The more votes we have, the easier it is to have a statistically significant difference between two different results..

Have had more than a few, and have one right now, Code # p0520, which will get fixed just like the other issues. Never been broke down on the side of the road YET, knock on real wood. I love my spyder.

I looking forward to the results I can't vote my 2009 SE5 just has over 700 miles but from reading this form the 2008's sure have a lot of problems. I'm hoping BRP took care of these issues for 2009. My only complaint so far is the cost of maintenance, service and accessories and the availability of the accessories they advertised back in March.
Looking forward to your analysis.
Thanks for doing this, it may cause me to sell mine and go for a Goldwing Trike which was my first choose but the price was more affordable for the Spyder.
Thanks Ron

Well, who knows in a few weeks, you might have your 2000 miles and be able to vote...
I'm aiming 2-3 weeks to get more than 120 votes...depending on the distribution of the votes, and the difference in the numbers, to get signigicant statistics...
I'm real excited also to see what comes of this..
And every one that can vote, please do, specialy if you've had a great experience problem free....
Of course, i would have liked to include a lot more variables, but it would have been way to big a poll, and would have required thousands of vots to be valid...
ANY WAY, thanks to all who vote...

I guess a LOT of issues that force you to go the dealer each time can be in the 1 or 2 major issues or breakdown... since going to the dealer many, many times is considered a major issu in itself..
have has thus modified slightly the answers to reflect this.
Thanks...

Interesting...
I guess a lot of unregestered guest visit so that is why there are so many views and not as much votes.. but a trend is already emerging.. can't wait to see..

OK, after 3 days, 317 views of this post. That's good.... Yet only 28 votes... witch is quite low... Anyway....
one out of 5 voters (21%) doesn't have a spyder with enough mileage to be incorporated in the study: this can be interpreted many ways : Did the ever have a Spyder? Did they have one with so much troubles they got rid of them before 2000 miles??? are they 2009's with little mileage (wich would be intersting to know about)....
So from the yet little amount of so far 22: 13.7% had 1-2 major trouble or exagerated visits to the dealer... The 86.3% others had minor or no problems.
The numbers are a little low at this point to draw significant conclusions, and our 21% answers with less than 2000 miles would help if people could leave comments so i can analyze tendencies in this categorie...
Keep up good work guys, and if possible leave comments with details, ESPECIALLY if you are in less than 2000 miles category: i need to know if you have a spyder or not and if you have problems and what year..
THANKS..
RASH

My 2009 SE spyder only has 350 miles on it. Would not come out of neutral after a 150 mile ride and while stopped it would blip the throtle to about 3k and make the same noise as if it was shifting. It's at the dealer awaiting the new parts. Hope this helps you!

I had a couple of issues. It is in the shop for shifting problems. Stuck on the road 3x in 5th. Had enough. Maybe they can fix it.
Another issue was overheating and oil leak. I enjoy riding my spyder but it seems it always stuck in the shop for something. Its a 2008 SE5. Sandy

I voted as follows
2008 spyder >2000 miles: 1-2 major issues/breakdown-OR EXAGERATED VISITS TO THE DEALER
However, I may be the exception to the statistics you are looking for. Reason being is
I have ust under 25,000 miles on My Spyder. If the accident didn't occur back in Junuary (The major issue) I would only have voted.
2008 spyder >2000 miles: just maintenance

Thanks, that is one reason why the conclusions of this study will have many limitations... and it would have to have 25 questions to be precise, so i will not suggest that it is.. 2000 miles and 20,000 miles are two really different scenarios...
There will probably be another poll following this one to try to precise some issues like mileage vs reliability..

Just voted under 2000 'cause just got my new Spyder yesterday. Now has 97 miles. Crashed and burned w/Harley a year ago and have left prosthesis above knee. Was planning on another other brand but found this and after trial run with auto trans I'm sold. Gets better by the mile!!!

Yikes, a few more big issues than i would have wished for... But on the good side, 80% no abnormal issues.. and those are 2008's... so 2009 are supposed to be BETTER??
I will have to get more info on them in next analysis..
Thanks for participating everybody..
