I've purchased and installed a Kisan 100HD-M brake light modulator on my new (to me) 2008 GS. When both brake lights are connected to the modulator I get a "VSS FAULT / LIMP MODE" notification. Removing one wire and reinstalling it without the modulator, leaving the modulator on the other light, works fine - the attached light pulses as it should, the unconnected light is solid. The Spyder acts as if the modulator is not performing the lamp check as it should. Has anyone else successfully installed this particular modulator?

It's time once again to take the cover off the Spyder and join in a benefit ride for the kids in ICU at the Auburn Regional Hospital. On February 12th at 12:30 PM, riders of 2 and 3 wheels meet up at 1317 Harvey Road (right next to Cycle Gear) to be a part of a 7 mile police escorted ride. The ride ends at the hospital, where you will be well-fed (free meal) and watch the Seattle Cossacks perform.

All you have to do is show up with a MEDIUM SIZE new teddy bear or stuffed animal to donate. I plan to attend unless the skies open up and unleash epic proportions of precipitation.
Call (206-941-9844) or e-mail (jomion@gmail.com) if you are interested or need more info.

SpyderRyders In The Sierras

Okie folks here is some initial information on what I hope will be an annual event for all SpyderRyders.
LOCATION: Carson City, NV

DATES: May 27, 28, 29,30, 2011 (Fri,Sat,Sun,Mon....Memorial Day Weekend 2011)

As things progress I will post updates on available lodging options, rydes, and event dinners. Any and all suggestions or ideas are more than welcomed.

So let all of your Spyder friends know and lets see if we can have a good attendance for this event.

CVryder (Gale) resides in the area and will be assisting me in organizing this event. Also this event is dependent upon weather
and one of the reason for scheduling in late May. Unless the winter season lasts longer than normal, we should be good for
not needing winter ryding gear.

Since the replacement, the new pads have only wore down less then 25% and I have put over 2500 miles on the new pads. My question to my fellow RT riders is how many miles passed before you have had to replace your brake pads. I am trying to get an average of brake pads replacement knowing that everyone has different driving habits. I was told it was my driving habits that caused the excessive wear, however I am driving the same and the pads are not wearing down anywhere close to the previous pads. The new pads are a redesign and according to BRP it was to alliviate the squelling that was reported as a problem from the past .

Legal requirements for riding a U.K. Registered Spyder in France

Hi folks,

Does anyone know the legal requirements for Spyder Ryding in France please.

My Spyder is U.K. Registered, and I know I need Europlates for it and an International Driving Licence is recommended, but I'm not sure about the following . . .
1. Are helmets required at all times?
2. Do the headlights have to be altered for driving on the other side of the road? If so, is this a dealer alteration or is it possible to do a DIY job?
3. Are we required to carry spare bulbs, a warning triangle and hi-viz vests?

Many Internet sites have information about motorcycle requirements, but none about trikes. I've tried contacting the Spyder dealer near Nice, but have had no response to date.

Our route is to be Chunnel -> Reims -> Troyes -> Dijon -> Lyon -> Orange -> Cannes/Nice and return

If anyone else has done this route by two/three/four wheels I'd be very grateful for any advice or pointers that you feel are relevant.

My main concerns are managing to re-fuel economically without getting lost if I have to venture off the autoroutes, the safety of the Spyder at over-night stops, the language barrier, and getting stopped by the police due to my ignorance of French law.

Thank you

I recently purchased and installed HID lighting on my 2010 RT-S in both the headlight and fog light positions.
After doing some research and reviewing the prices that some of the motorcycle internet sights (and spyder sights)I was discouraged. There was no way I could see paying THAT much for this mod---even if it was needed for safety and better visibility at night. Come on $500.00 for 2 sets---that's rediculous. I continurd my search and came upon some more reasonable pricing, but was uncertain about the products they were offering, as I was looking for the digital ballast so as not to create interference with the onboard computer.
Finally I did a search on Ebay and found several vendors that had just what I was looking for.
I made an offer of $42.00 to one of the vendors http://stores.ebay.com/xenonfactory with the equipment that I was looking for and they accepted. $42.00 shipped to the house, instead of $250.00 plus shipping. Now for me that was a no brainer IF the equipment was as represented.
Well I took a chance and so far they are working perfectly---so good in fact that I made an offer on a second set, and now have 2 sets for a total of $84.00 vs. $500.00. Even if they only lasted 1 year, I could buy a new set every year for 6 years and still come out ahead.
The installation was straight forward, but a little challanging, finding a place to mount the hardware, and sealing the holes in the back of the headlight covers.
I had to drill a hole in the back of the headlight cover in order to run the power cables out to the ballast. I used some wide electrical tape and some silicone to seal it up.
The HID equipment was all plug & play and everything was proviided---even some extra wires & plug adapters I didn't need.
It will take about 10 minutes to get the skins off and get the headlights out for the installatin.
Start by removing the mirrors, wind deflectors, and bonnet around the headlights.
You can remove the headlights 1 at a time by removing 4 screws from the front. Remove the headlight adjusting cable nut that will allow the headlight and cable to come out using some twisting motion and pulling forward.
Now pop the cover off of the back of the headlight and drill a hole large enough for the plug from the headlight bulb to pass through.
Install the new bulb after removing the old Halogen bulb, run the wires through the hole you just drilled, replace the cover on the back of the headlight assembly, and seal everything up to prevent water intrusion.
position the ballast and transformer in such a way on the back of the headlight assemble so the ballast is setting on top of the back cover locking finger. Use the provided double faced tape to secure its position. Use the provided zip ties to secure the wire and transformer.
Make sure everything is plugged in.
Now gently slide the assembly back in place using that twisting motion to seat it into its former postion and secrue it with the 4 bolts that you removed earlier.
Once in place start the engine to check operation. If the light does not come on you need to switch the power wires to the oposite polarity.
Use the same procedure for the other light, replace the skins, and enjoy.
If you are looking for added visibility at night or just want to be seen better in the daytime, I highly recommend this modification. You will not regret it.

I have a Yamaha XJ700X which I would like to pull to bike shows with my '09 SM5. The bike weighs about 500#.

I am considering a Bushtec hitch as it appears to be a stronger design than a swingarm mount....and understand they recommend a max. load of 350# on the hitch and a max tongue weight of 50#. Tongue weight is no problem but overall weight is, figuring a real lightweight trailer will still go 150# - 200# I'm really pushing Bushtec's rec.

Is there a better way to accomplish this or is it not feasible at all?

Ever get stranded on your Spyder?

This is by no means a bashing question. I have a poll already rolling on reliability. I want a very specific variable because the one worst thing is a breakdown that force you to get off the bike and find another means of transportation. This is in my opinion the one most frustrating and potentially dangerous situation... And i want a spyder, it's just here in Quebec we only have 4-5 months a year to ride... therefore, i must take it to go to work. If i get stranded ONCE going to work... it would be a major MAJOR situation at work... lets just say poeples lives could be affected by me not getting to work.. SO I CAN'T LIVE WITH THAT... I understand that this is a RECREATIONAL vehicule, but i don't think on a ST1300 or FJ1300 i will get stranded going to work...

SO THANKS IN ADVANCE...

Can Am Spyder Mono Cowl - Cowl Keepers Kit

Can Am Spyder Mono Cowl “Cowl Keepers” are designed to keep your rear seat Can Am Spyder Mono Cowl firmly attached to your seat and easily allow you to take it on and off. I like many other Spyder riders got tired of dishing out $11 for the rubber band seat contraption from Can Am (part# 219400107) that easily broke the first time you took them off. My Cowl Keepers are strong elastic bands with a brass crimp lock that stretches easily underneath the seat and attaches to the retaining hooks underneath your Can Am Spyder Mono Cowl. I have tested these Cowl Keepers and cannot break them. They are properly measured for a standard Can Am Spyder seat with a Mono Cowl attached. They are so easy to install you will no longer fear taking off your Mono Cowl again. Cowl Keepers will not rip or tear your seat nor mar your paint on the side panels. I can custom make them if you seat is aftermarket also, just contact me. I charge $4.99 for a set along with 3 protective weather strips included. Instructions are included.

I include 3 weather strips to protect you seat and your rear tail section. These easy to install strips attach to the front left and right edge on your Mono Cowl and the rear section that meets the tail section. I hear so many stories of how the cowl eats away at the paint and scratches the tail section, this is a must have addition to you Can Am Spyder Mono Cowl.

I charge $4.99 for a set along with the protective weather strips. Shipping is $1.97 USPS First Class Mail to the Continental U.S. (48 States), Alaska and Hawaii please add $3.20 for shipping.

To pay for you Cowl Keepers, please send $4.99 plus $1.97 Shipping to my Paypal account @ SColeman@inbox.com and reference “Cowl Keepers”. If you have in question you can also contact me at SColeman@inbox.com. Please put “Cowl Keepers” in the subject line.

Oil Leak Saga

Yesterday, on the way to Bert’s Canyon Cruise, I noticed I had an Oil leak. When I got to Bert’s, I checked out my Spyder. It looked like the Oil leak was coming mainly from my rear Valve cover. While I was there, I purchased a set of valve cover gaskets. I was thinking I would spend today fixing the leak or leaks.

This morning I got up took all the plastics off, then drove up to the local car wash to degrease the bike. There was oil over everything, and I really hate to work on a dirty engine. I degreased the engine and rode my Spyder home. Sure enough, I was able to tell I had an oil leak at the back of the rear valve cover. As I started taking the valve covers off, I was able to determine why I have a leak. The rear “distance Screw” (valve cover screw/bolt) was just slightly tighter than finger tight. The front screw snapped, as soon as I went started removing it. Its obvious the last time I had a 12,000 miles service the tech did not pay attention to the amount of torque he was putting one these.

Now here I am, with a Spyder I can’t put back together because of a busted screw. I’m very aggravated because I have to get a new distance screw. Instead of just buying one, I need to buy 10. Ten is a full set for both the front and rear valve covers. If you have one bad part, you might as well replace all of them. That’s my just incase scenario. Since I am aggravated, I put my tools away, and walked away from the project for today. This will give me time to calm down, and figure out how I will get the busted screw out. With a minimal amount of clearance, this will be a difficult task. It is best not to try when you are aggravated. Especially since it will be 2 – 3 days before I get the replacement screws. I might as well do a 12,000 mile service, since I got the bike all tore apart, and save myself $800.00

If anyone needs to order these, here is the information

WOW!!!! I have to warn any Houston Spyder owners!! Mancuso (Gulf Freeway location) service dept has probably been the worst experience I have ever had with ANY type of service department. My Spyder, with only 2000 miles on it, has been in their service department for 5 WEEKS and will probably remain their for a couple more weeks still!!! All this to replace a faulty clutch seal! First of all, it took 8 DAYS before they finally even looked at it! Then they "forgot" to order the parts. When they did order them they screwed up and only ordered half of what they needed. Then when the rest of the parts arrived, they decided that they may want to go ahead and order a couple more parts just to be safe. It should be noted that they have crate upon crate of new Spyders in the back that they could borrow the part off of in about 10 minutes, BUT they said they couldn't do that because t would disable the other bike and temporarily prevent them from selling that one. But yet, they already have my money, so it's not a big deal if MY bike is disabled for half of the summer!!! Jus goes to show that once they have your money you are forgotten about and they could care less. Freakin idiots!!!

WTB Salvage or Damaged

Happy New Year to all. I’m a new member and private individual not a dismantler or dealer; I'm looking for a project to keep myself busy at retirement. If you have a broken Spyder that is not going any where, I just might be able to help. I'm looking for a damaged bike deal, something that I could work on repairing that is not operational (within reason) but is worth repairing. Not an issue if it has a Salvage title, it will be for private use and not for resale. For your consideration, I have a fully operational Kawasaki Jetmate (jetski/boat) that may already be sold but, it could be something for a trade, I can provide some cash. If your not interested, no big deal. If you have something you want to sell straight out, let me know. I will provide some photos of the Jetmate upon request. Give me a call or send an email, please provide your bottom dollar price and your location in your response, I will reply to all if you are not a scammer. Thanks and I hope the New Year is good to you.

Steering damper project

Hi all,
I am an avid fan of adjustable steering dampers. Been riding for 40 years and I used them on most of the bikes I owned (dirt and street). When I purchased my Spyder I was somewhat disappointed I could not find one in the market. I understand the Spyder has hydraulic steering assist, but it's not the same as a rider-adjustable steering damper.
In any case. I contacted the guys from Precision Racing Products - http://www.precision-rp.com/ - and they answered they'd be happy to look into it, if someone brought a Spyder to their facility in Lodi, CA.
I'm all the way down in Florida, unfortunately. But I think the idea deserves the chance to be posted and hopefully, someone in Cali will help to roll this ball.
Whatdayatink?
Cheers.
Here is copy of their email:

2010 Spyder RS SPUTTER & COUGH

I Have searched the internet completely and can not find any answer's on how to get rid of the lower RPM Sputters and Coughs!

I have installed a KewlMetal Air Cleaner, a HMF Exhaust and a Dobeck EFI tuner. I have tried a dozen different settings on the EFI tuner with no luck. The bike runs strong through the RPM range, but taking off from a light or just riding at 30 or 40 MPH she will cough and sputter. Not real bad, but enough to drive me nuts.

I disconnected the purge canister line that goes to the throttle body, No Change. I have not yet tried disconnecting the battery as I've read somewhere to try.

Does anyone have the answers to this problem? It seems fairly common. I bought my bike from a private party and I have 975 miles on it. I'm really very happy with it besides the sputter problem. I did the 600 mile oil change myself, so I have not been to the dealer with it.

Any advise, suggestions or help with this would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks!

2012 Texas Trike Reunion

The 2012 Texas Trike Reunion in Kerrville, Texas has been scheduled. The annual event will commence on Thursday, April 5th and conclude on Saturday, April the 7th.
There are no vendors or sponsors involved as this is not a commercial event.

There is no registration fee for this free event. Everyone in attendance is responsible for their own food, lodging, entertainment, happiness and safety.

George Lewis has negotiated group rates at the Super 8 motel in Kerrville. Tell them you wish the Texas Trike Reunion rate of $59.95 plus taxes. Call soon for your reservation. (830) 896-1511. Make your reservations now and cancel later if unable to make the reunion. The Super 8 is 1/2 mile south of IH10W, exit 508, on Hwy. 16.

We will gather for a kick-off lunch at Cooper’s BBQ in Llano on Thursday at 1:30 PM. Larry Letzer (Cherokee) will be taking the group photograph at 9:00 Friday morning at Mansfield Park, 2 miles north of Bandera on Hwy. 16. Then we will ride to Neal’s Cafe for lunch. Neal's is on the Frio River in Concan. We will stop in Leakey, at the Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop, for a PR break. The event will conclude on Saturday afternoon with a 4:00 pm BBQ dinner in the Meeting Hall at Kerrville’s Schreiner Park on the Guadalupe River. (Hwy 173, south of town)

Everyone will pay for their own lunch at Cooper’s BBQ on Frida and at Neal’s on Friday. Saturday’s BBQ dinner at Schreiner Park will be catered by Buzzy’s BBQ of Kerrville. The catering service will be collecting a per-plate charge from the participants that will include the cost of the meeting hall. The help of volunteers will be welcomed.

Ex Harley/ new spyder guy

I sold my 2011 CVO street glide and bought a 2009 left over spyder. Im physically unable to balance (no inner ear function) so the harley at 80MPH in crosswinds had to go. I HATE harley TRikes so I saw these spyders and figured what the hell they look awesome and have three wheels and an engine! I have raced my whole life (MX and was a sponsored rider by Honda dealerships in AZ/CA in the 70s)I am OCD about Bikes and cool parts.
So the Mods must be done. Juice Box, Intake kit, Yoshimura Carbon exhaust, HID Xenon light kit, Phantom Black out kit, Handelbar risers, Taller windscreen, 6 spoke black chrome wheels, Corbin rear trunk with single seat, Corbin bags, carbon fiber side plastic, Carbon fiber rear fender kit, carbon fiber lower and upper chain belt gaurd.
I have the dealer installing everything before I bring it home...I have seen how this group really loves these little beasts (most of you) and am looking forward to still riding with my wife (she still has her 2011 CVO street glide) safely, and not white knuckled!
we have a three week 3000 mile trip planned for next august. every year we did a big ride somewhere. Sturgis, jackson, Wy, yellowstone, Grand canyon, Mendicino, CA,. I just never want to loose that feeling so I am praying the Spyder is my weapon of choice. I rode one at the dealer and loved it, just like racing my old ATVs at the Glamis sand dunes....lean pin it and go.

Operation

The friction nut has a left-hand thread. It must be adjusted so that it makes light contact with the rubber throttle sleeve.

To Engage: While rolling on the throttle, the friction nut can be gripped between the small finger and palm of hand. This action tightens the nut and provides sufficient friction to set throttle to the desired opening. (The friction is such that the rider may still open and close the throttle. It simply has a slight stiffness to it.)

To Disengage: While rolling off the throttle, grip friction nut between small finger and palm of hand. The throttle should open and snap closed freely when correctly disengaged.

We have planned a Meet-N-Eat a little north of San Diego this time so some of our members and friends from out of the area can join us.

Come join the San Diego Chapter for our November Meet -n- Eat and General Meeting.
A chance to socialize, compare mods and accessories, share a few laughs, and have lunch with fellow Spyder owners.
All are welcome.

You will also have a chance to talk to your Board Members and learn about upcoming events in the Spyder community.

We will be meeting at El Adobe in San Juan Capistrano about 12:30pm.
http://www.eladobedecapistrano.com/index.php
Katie has a GREAT route planned for us!

Here is a rough timeline if you would like to meet us along the way!

rotax 990 off road buggy!

gday from Australia! i have recently purchased a damaged se5 in the hope of using it in an off road buggy, i believe they are similiar to what you know as "sand rails"? all i am after out of the spyder is the engine, transmission, cluster and possibly power steering. I need to be able to eliminate all other sensors and safety features as it will be a liability in the terrain we race, namely dirt, dust, mud, etc etc. looking over the wiring diagram and surfing these forums it is clear there is a lot of work ahead!! it seems everything is electronically integrated. is what i am after possible?? i have been advised the best way would be to get a custom loom made up, can anyone recommend anyone who is competent with spyder electrics?? any other advice or recommendations will be greatly appreciated!!
thanks guys
Kuryakyn Floorboards adjustable in every direction so that each individual rider can adjust to their liking. Custom made (rigid Frame) wheelchair carrier on back attached to "Kewl Metal" backrest. Wheelchair can be included in deal! The only other thing I did was add the BRP 1" Risers. All modifications where designed and fabricated in a manner that did not butcher the bike in any way meaning the bike can go back to stock build very easily. Bike is flawless with only 3,700 miles. 1200 of those were put on in 6 days last summer when my girlfriend and I took a trip up the coast to Monterey. Bike is located North county San Diego. For pictures, more info and price depending on how you want the bike setup and if you want the Light weight (colours Razor) wheelchair, just write me. I'm in no hurry or need to sell the bike, I simply don't have enough time to enjoy it as I have many other hobbies and interests. This bike really is a dream setup for rider with a mobility impairment and I'd love to see another gimp get it. Cheers, roller.

It would not shift out of first gear nor go into reverse. Yes the spyder that I love was stuck in first gear. Anyone who what happens in that situation and why it would happen to a new spyder. It is in the shop now but I sure would like to know what for myself that answer. This is my first day on here and am not sure if I am even going to get a reply. Thank you in advance for one concerning this .

engine stalls then races without throttle

Hi my first post. my premier edition just had its first major service last month. I also added a Hindle pipe at that time. may or may not be related to this issue, but it has never happened before. I was riding for about 15 minutes and then waiting at a light, the rpms start to drop off and then the engine stalled. It started right back up but continued to kind of cough for a few minutes. that stopped then as I made a left turn, it raced up and surged 2000rpms without me touching the throttle! scary! it surged 2 more times. Then it started coughing again. Of course its back at the dealer and they cant duplicate the problem.
I love my sypdee and have never ever had an issue like this till now. any ideas?

2011R T Limited Communication Cable

I have had my Spyder for a couple of months When you buy the Limited it comes with a communication cable , which I assumed did nothing unless you have a CB or Ipod. But what is that setup for? the place I bought the spyder from is a little less than helpful and I get the feeling it is because they have little knowledge about that part of the package because maybe they have not sold enough of the limited bikes? Who knows? I do not have a Ipod or a CB so I just never pluged it in. There is a Button on the left handle bar for something that has to do with this cable communication I think? Can anyone tell me were to find information on this , I have the manual that comes with the bike and found nothing there.
Safe riding to all

I bought my new Can-Am RT Limited on July 18th, and it broke down (700 miles from home) on September 2nd. After spending over $1,000 getting it home, it has been in my dealer's shop ever since. It is an electrical problem that no one has seen before, and apparently don't know how to fix. When the ignition is turned on, all of the panel lights blink rapidly, and the LCD screen goes crazy. Nothing works, and it won't start. My dealer is as frustrated as I am, and the head technician at Can-Am that he has been communicating with, doesn't have any answers yet either. They shipped out a new ECM, but it didn't make any difference. The machine has now been in the shop longer than I've been able to ride it, and my patience is wearing thin. Does anyone know of a real person with a phone number at the corporate level that I can discuss this problem with?

Several months ago Vance and Hines borrowed my Spyder for a month to dyno and street test in order to create a new exhaust for the Spyder. I spoke with the folks from V and H yesterday and unfortunately they "decided to kill the spyder exhaust project." Since I was promised the first production Spyder pipe, the V and H customer rep told me he would honor their agreement to give me a free pipe, and told me I could pick one from their catalogue (posted below). Since I sold my Harley and only have the Spyder, I can't use a new pipe. So, if you are looking for a new pipe for one of your bikes check out the catalogue posted below. They make high-quality products. I will sell the V and H pipe at a discounted price and/or consider a trade for spyder mods. I still want a pipe and seat cover and possibly other mods. I already have passenger rack/backrest, risers, Madstad windshield, highway pegs, and kury grips. If nothing works out I'll choose a nice pipe and post on ebay.

Hey all of you AZ whiners out there, it is time to shut up and show up! You know who you are, the masses who've lamented the absence of group Spyder rides in Southern AZ (which if you search on here you'll find some fine whines from me, too) ranging from the belief that it might be too hot (for you folks back east who fantasize about riding year round in AZ, can you believe that???" ), the fact that "all of the riding clubs are up in PHX!" Etc. etc. ad nauseum!!! SO Let's not hear anything more from you if you do not show up on November 5 in Sierra Vista-about 1 hour south of Tucson at the place listed on the flier below, or earlier for Breakfast in Bisbee (about 30 minutes beyond and 100 years before Sierra Vista) - where all of the coolest riders congregate and have breakfast beforehand! So meet us in SV or Bisbee, but meet us there! Just be sure to honk when you drive past my house on the main drag in Bisbee - it'll surely drive my wife and sister-in-law crazier than my being out there by myself!!!) Looks rather similar to this but in real life it is more real-life-size! Please do not stop & disturb my dog Nick.
F/S 2009 GS SE5 (SOLD)

Black/Grey 2009 Can-Am Spyder SE5 with 17,780 miles and running. Been serviced at 6k Mi, 9k Mi, and 12k Mi. Skipped 3K and 15K (Changed oil myself both time) and will be in for 18k Mi next week. 3 new tires was installed on it May 2011. New rear brake installed Dec 2010. Upgrade includes Russell Day-Long seat (YOUR &#@ will love you for this, I promise!!) with backrest for driver, Madstad Adjustable Windshield, KewlMetal 3-ways Adjustable Risers, KewlMetal Footpeg Bracket, Kuryakyn ISO Wing Mini and Footpeg bracket, Trunk Frontliner, and 12V Outlet. All upgrades was made so it can run long distance with no trouble and very comfortable. I have done as much as 800mi a day and no discomfortable. I have done 1,400 miles in 2 days. My mileage speaks for itself and I bought it new in Nov 2009. Warranty is still good until June 2012 and you can extend it for $700 (2 years extension). I am asking $14K for it although the NADA is suggesting $16k and KBB is suggesting $13,700 so I figured that with all the upgrades $14k seems just fair. I had dealer offered me $12K on trade-in for a Harley but the Harley had a weak compression so no deal. The Harley deal would have dropped my monthly payment by $150 and remove insurance payment saving me extra $300 a month but the option of finding another Harley within $6K range in this riding season is really slim so I decide to just sell it straight out.

Upgrade:
Russel Day-Long Custom Seat $900
Madstad Adjustable 22" Windshield $285
Trunkliner $60
12V Outlet $20
KewlMetal 3-ways Adjustable Handlebar $335
KewlMetal Footpeg Bracket $170
Kuryakyn bracket and ISO Wing Mini $145
Total: $1,915 not including the labor time put into it..

I regret to have to sell my Spyder because I really love it very much and I can keep it but I got other priorities that need to come before my Spyder like building my own house. I am 36 years old and I own a land without financing and plan to start build a Timber Frame house using post and beam connected with mortise/tenon and joinery using wooden pegs. In order for me to build the house without borrowing from the bank, I need to free up my budget so I can have extra money to buy materials and finish the project hopefully within 2 years time frame so I can own the house without any debt on it. After I finish my home, I definitely plan to buy a Hybrid Touring Spyder (RT or RTS) and a trailer with it for sure! I already have my eyes on 2014 model after they weed out bugs in 2013 model. ;-)

I will post pics within next few days. Please note that same ad will be posted at SpyderLovers forum too so you can email me wkheathjr at yahoo address. Thanks for looking!!

I installed Madstad and did a short road test two times.. first one didn't work out but second one was improvement with slight wind hitting my face but I didn't realize a lot of time and work involved in adjusting the bracket.. I had to remove the windshield to adjust the bracket and they will move even when you are tightening the bolt/nut..

So I was wondering what angle worked better for you guys? I am 5'11" tall and I have 22" windshield.. here is my angle I am at right now (pics attached)..

Hello everybody

A friend of mine (he's not English literate) acquired a Spyder after some sort of accident. I guess it was a minor one since he wants to repair it. We have no Can-Am authorised service station nearby and that is why I am asking this question.

I have already found that the symptoms are that of 'Limp home' and would like to know if there is any way of resetting all errors without going to service station.

In motorcycles sometimes it's enough to pull one wire, attach it somewhere else or something similar - maybe such a thing is possible here...

Oh, and one more thing. Maybe someone has a list of error codes avaiable?

Opinions on RS airbox replacement

Hi,

I'm considering replacing my airbox and both wonder if I should and then which one?
I am leaning towards the one from Kewlmetal.
Wondering what experiences were like with these and other alternatives and do those who have tried them feel they were worth it?
How do they affect Spyders behaviour?

Best,

I've finally finish editing the GoPro video of our pilgrimage to Anacortes from LaConner and hope you will enjoy this keepsake. The video runtime is 13:38. I thought about speeding up the video to shorten the runtime length, but opted against that for those who wanted to pause the video to look at particular details. I also left the raw audio format as is as well. Any feedback would be welcomed so that I can improve overall viewing quality.

Front Right Tire Damage

Hi,

New to the forums and just purchased a used 2009 Spyder GS SM5. It's been great to ride so far and I have very few complaints other than my own stupidity.

Today I ran my front right tire into a curb in a parking lot at about 20-25 mph. It scraped part of the rim and the tire which is really painful to me but now I notice that when traveling at higher speeds 45 mph+ that the right tire seems to wobble sightly compared to the front left tire. Needless to say I am going to take it into be serviced and possibly replace the rim.

Should I be concerned about causing more damage by driving to a local dealership for service work? It will require some highway travel about 20 miles or so. I noticed some additional vibration in the handlebars but it still drives straight without having to over correct it.

The wobble is only noticeable at high speeds and doesn't seem to be impacting my ride too much but wanted to check with the experts first.

Thanks in advance for your replies,

So Sad My Spyder And I Can't Live Together

Well I finally have had enough. From day 1 my Spyder surges out into traffic at idle while at lights or intersections. With my son son the back ,no less. In higher but not hottest days it is rough running. In 2 years I have only amassed 1,300 miles due to safety and dealer service downtime. My Spyder is now in for p0351 error and lost almost all power during ride. I am in the 6th week of waiting as Can am swaps and replaces one component at a time.My call to Can Am was ended with a promise to have a rep call me back and they never did.I have been given every excuse that man can create .Everything from "we are just about to work on it" to " Can Am sent us the wrong ecm" to "It takes two weeks for Can Am to respond to the dealer".
Conceptually the bike is beautiful. My brother is now on his second machine. And he is now regretful that he moved up to the RT. It is hideously underpowered and will not downshift on it's own.Of course the stock statement "we can't find the problem with our software" is being familiarly given to us once more.I regretfully must conclude that my attorney has now proceeded with the Ohio Lemon Law process.I have low expectations in this regard but only a fool would continue to make thousands of dollars in finance payments for a machine that can't be safely ridden. Those 1,300 miles of local town riding with no confidence to get the thing on a roadtrip were very expensive miles.I couldn't sell it if I tried.

PS Can Am you may now stop inviting me to Spyder events that I could,nt possibly get to.Thanks for 2 years of nothing
Sometimes I like to take pictures of water, hills and trees and once in a while I find a picture that is worth blowing up and framing......however these aren't that good and I forgot to take the date stamp off before I took the pictures. We hope to go back down thru this area in a week or so and maybe there will be some color. The pictures were taken on what is locally called "the Delaware Water Gap" I guess because it is in Delaware county in NY state. It is a water resevoir for NY City and usually the colors are tremendous and it is a very scenic ryde.....maybe we were just too early this year but we had a frost last night so that should help with more color in a few days....I hope!!
