Was just wondering if anyone has installed a juice nox and is currently running it with two brothers dual exhaust. I just installed tbr dual on mine i talked to my local delaership and they said that on there demo model with the same exhaust it ran like crap with out any thing and they installed a juice box but said it worked better but was really hard to adjust and never could get it perfect.. They said they made a custom set of baffles that they said works better and you cant really even see the baffles just wondering anyones input

Roadside assist

I was wondering if any Aussie Spyder owners have received any notification about renewing the Spyder Ryder Care roadside assist. It was only free for the first year, but it is, apparently, going to be offered for renewal, if you wish to pay for it. Apparently, according to the Spyder Product manager at BRP (Rohan Slater) it should be cheaper than getting it direct from NRMA.

Good Morning All - my wife and I just bought our first Spyder this past weekend. It should be delivered today, and we are so excited to start riding!

Since we have never owned a motorcycle before, we are going to take our time with training and learning to ride, but we are looking forward to meeting other owners in the Jacksonville area!

In regards to training, are there any local training programs that you would recommend?

Thanks,

sumitomo tires

Been looking at Tire Rack for some tires for the spyder. Sumitomo has 175/55/14 and 225/50/15. Has anyone put on a full set of aftermarket tires yet? These are the only ones I can find in the same brand of tires. I know Bridgestone makes some for the front, but not the rear. Kumho makes a rear, but no front tires. Cost for the Sumitomo is 82.00 rear, and 52.00 front each.

I have never posted a fund-raising event ever before until today.

Why you ask? Well it is simple, my niece has Cystic Fibrosis and she is in her early twenties. If any of you know about CF then you know that means that statistically her life is entering its dawn, but she isn’t looking for help for herself. She is asking that we join her to help others who are less fortunate then her by going to this site and contributing whatever you can.

http://www.cff.org/Great_Strides/dsp_DonationPage.cfm?walkid=6874&idUser=224556

The photos below are when she visited me and the wife at Myrtle Beach bike week in 2005.

She really dug this trike.

The Spyder didn’t exist yet so she rode with me on my Vegas.

She was supposed to come to our house this past Christmas, but she couldn’t. Instead she spent Thanksgiving and her birthday in the hospital fighting off infections, and her doctors said she couldn’t fly over the holidays.

I don’t like to ask anything from anyone for myself or my family, but this is different. What I’m asking from you isn’t for me or my niece, but for the ones she would like help. In a way that will help my niece, because it would make her happy, and a laugh and smile can cure a lot.
If you are unable to contribute, but know someone who can, please pass on this information.

Thank you

Spyder featured in new music video!!

The internet provides aspiring filmmakers many avenues to display their talents that were not available a generation ago. One way is music video production, with hosting on various music websites.

My son Matt is one of these young filmmakers. This January, he and a buddy conceived, produced, shot, and edited this music video for one of his favorite indie bands, Think About Life. My red SM5 Spyder is featured rather prominently in the video. (Also, carrying on in the tradition of most of his student films at Messiah College and Temple University, his Old Man is also featured...)

He has a quirky sense of humor for sure, but this is a great way to expose yet another demographic to our favorite three-wheeled vehicle!!
Hope you get a kick out of it!!

If you enjoy it, take a moment to post favorable comments on the music website. This is one way aspiring filmmakers build their resume and get recognition. (If you hate it, tell me, and I'll ignore it )

All unused stock Spyder parts for sale!

Hi Ryders,

So we're getting close to finishing our prototype vehicle and I've gotta clear out the shop and make back some money. I've got a lot of parts that we didn't use in our Spyder conversion. The biggest thing would be the frame itself, but I doubt anyone wants that. Might just hang it on the wall for fun. Here's the list of things off the top of my head. All parts were removed at 148 miles and stored since.

1) 2008 Silver Full Moon body panels. And I mean ALL the panels, except for the fenders. Not just the silver painted parts, but all the plastics.

2) Front Trunk (frunk?), the whole thing. Bucket, lid, latch, everything.

3) Drive belt with 148 miles on it. This thing retails for $300! I'm sure someone's getting close to belt replacement by now.

4) Stock saddle. Great condition, I got some Lotus seats now.

5) Stock handlebar. Yeah, it's just a cheap item, but I don't need it.

Please e-mail me if you're interested in anything. hong@prongmotors.com
Thanks,

Spring Weekender

I have been talking with my fellow riders here in Southern California about doing a Spring Weekend Overnighter. As it turns out, I have gotten a very positive response. I suggested we do something a little different and ride a little farther. This is what we have come up with.

When: April 29th – May 2nd (Thursday through Sunday)
Where: Carson Valley (City) Nevada

“CVRider” a member of this forum, a local of the area, has offered to help me out with the planning and details. I must say he is an excellent communicator. I am looking forward to meeting him in person.

Right now, this is not being planned, as any kind of rally. It is just being planned as a bunch of good people, getting together to have a good time.

Let me just say this about the Carson Valley. It is a very, unique area with lots of History, Lots to see and do. We have already come up with a couple of rides, and we are working on more.

This would be a great opportunity for “NEW RT OWNERS” to test out their Spyders on an actual tour weekend.

There is a Spyder dealer in the Area, So parts and service should not be a problem. However, I have not contacted the dealer yet.

Anyway. I thought I would throw this out there to see if anyone else would be interested in attending.

With more people in attendance, we may be able to get Group Discounts at one of the local hotels.

I will post on the BRP site once we get more of the details worked out.

Thanks

Aerocharger FAQ and kit schematic

You can see this on Aerochargers site, but I thought I'd post it here are well. They have addressed MANY questions regarding the kit. Thanks to those of you that have posted questions in the forums!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What is the stock horsepower that the Spyder engine produces?
A: Stock horsepower and torque to the wheels has been recorded as: 92HP and 63Ft Lbs of torque.

Q: What is the performance increase I can expect from my Aerocharged Spyder?
A: Final Dyno testing/tuning is currently in progress and we will update our website accordingly as soon as possible. Do not be surprised if you see a 40-50% increase in to the ground HP and TQ over stock with room to grow.

Q: How much does the turbo kit weigh?
A: The Aerocharger 53 Series turbo is approximately 10lbs, the charge tubes, intercooler and additional Aerocharger components will add another 10-15LBS.

Q: What is this "Wide-Band" controller and gauge listed with the kit?
A: A Wide-Band oxygen sensor & digital gauge measures the Air/Fuel ratio. Monotoring Air/Fuel ratios ensure that your Spyder is running properly and safely at all times. Using this sensor and gauge eliminates the possibility of running too lean or too rich and possibly damaging the engine.

Q: Will the Aerocharger turbo kit fit on the new RTS Spyder?
A: From what we can tell there should be no issues installing this kit on the new RTS. However this has not been confirmed 100% at this point. If you are in the KC metro area and have a new RTS please give us a call or stop by so we can provide the Spyder community with a solid answer. Check back for updates on the RTS fitment.

Q: What is this "catch can" that I heard comes with your kit?
A: The Spyder is notorious for dumping oil into the stock airbox. With the Aerocahrger kit the provided custom air box will be pressurized and is designed to stay free of oil. We include an aluminum catch can that is designed to vent crank case pressure and also offer an easy way to drain any potential oil that may accumulate through the crank case vent. This will prevent your Spyder from ingesting oil into the engine.

Q: What gas should I run in my Aerocharged Spyder?
A: Premium 91 Octane is the minimum. If 92 and 93 Octane are available in your area, those will work as well.

Q: My manual says to run 87 Octane in my Spyder, why should I run premium with the Aerocharger?
A: The Spyder has a static compression ratio of 9:1 (despite what the literature says) and is tuned to run on lower octane fuels from the factory. The AeroCommander tunes the Spyder for boost and is optimized to take advantage of premium fuels.

Q: Can I run E85 or other ethanol blends in my Spyder?
A: E85 should NOT be ran in your Spyder, though blends containing 10% of Ethanol are fine as most premium fuels contain 10% Ethanol anyway.

Q: How does the Aerocharger turbo kit effect the traction and stability control systems on the Spyder?
A: It doesn't. Traction control only kicks in at 40MPH (assuming your in a straight line) and the Stability Control System is activated by yaw sensors when you turn corners. There are aftermarket sway bars available to reduce the effects of the Stability Control System.

Q: How long does it take to install the Aerocharger turbo kit?
A: A person with average mechanical knowledge and a set of metric tools should have no problem installing this kit in an afternoon.

Q: What's a metric wrench? Maybe I should have someone else install this for me?
A: Most bike shops and Spyder dealers should have competent mechanics available to install the Aerocharger turbo kit. Please contact your local dealer for estimated labor charges should you feel that professional help may be needed.

Q: I just bought a new aftermarket muffler, why can't I use it with the Aerocharger Turbo kit?
A: We insert a wide-band O2 sensor and have a custom pipe exiting the turbo. Factory and aftermarket slip on mufflers will require modification. In addition the Aerocharger turbo reduces the sound exiting the exhaust with a specifically tuned muffler for our turbochargers and more importantly the Spyder in conjunction with it. Trust us, it sounds GREAT!

Q: Do I need to run any different oil in my Spyder for this turbo?
A: The Aerocharger has self contained lubrication and requires no modification to the oiling system or the oil that is used. Use the BRP recommended oil, and check your oil often. Your Aerocharged Spyder will make more power and typically vehicles with more power are harder on oil. You may want to look at changing oil and filters in slightly shorter intervals to ensure the longest life out of your engine.

Q: Will this turbo kit void my warranty?
A: Putting an aftermarket muffler on could void your warranty depending on the circumstances. Our testing shows that the Spyder Rotax engine is a very capable engine to support our kit, but it is up to your local dealer to determine if this bolt-on performance enhancement will void your warranty.

Q: Will the Aerocharger turbo kit "damage" my Spyder?
A: Absolutely not. Many Spyder owners carry multiple people, pull trailers, and mount all kinds of accessories on their bikes. The factory clutch and belt are specifically designed to handle increased load. If you have any concerns about your clutch, Barnett Performance makes an aftermarket clutch kit that your authorized Spyder dealer can install.

Q: Is the Aerocharger turbo kit emissions legal?
A: This is a good question and it could vary state to state. What we can say is that the Spyder has a very lean fuel tune from the factory for emissions purposes. This is why many Spyder owners report high engine temps and why many people look at aftermarket fuel controllers. The Aerocommander and our tune for the Spyder will keep the Spyders motor safe by adding additional fuel to compensate for boost and idle characteristics. You may or may not have emissions issues, but you do have the capability of trimming the fuel curve just in case you have issues during inspection.

Spyder friend has passed away

Hello old friends,

i wanted to say goodbye to Barry Bourne, orig from England. He passed away 2 Saturday's ago. We had the chance to ride with him many times in our humble Sacramento group, the short lived Nor Cal Spyder Riders. He had fought a long battle with cancer, passed away in his home with his wife near.

He was the reason WHY so many men have purchased and enjoyed their Spyder. He had some medical troubles prior and had sold his Harley so that he wouldnt worry about dropping a heavy bike. The Spyder allowed Barry a few more years of ride time and I will miss him. I told his wife i would let the Spyder Talk world know since she was never able to get his password and could not get online herself.

Thanks for the friendship Barry and the rides that you were able to make, your smile and laughter will stay with me for many years. Im thankfull to have met and ridden with you and i hope your free of pain and will ride on again ..

Your friend,
Shawn R McGrane

ps, if anyone had ridden with us or would like to say a kind word please email me at Shawn@sacpowersports.com and i will pass your letters on to his wife Gereldene.

Spoke with Leo Jr a few days ago and he says hes still into a ride every now and then. Any other of my old group buddies want to plan to meet up when the weather gets nice? Maybe due to stores closing or other dealers not meeting peoples needs the thrill is gone.

Id be happy to gather up some of the guys and ride if they dont mind me tagging along on my 2 wheeler lol. We had some good times and some good lunch spots were found as well.

Maybe some of the gang have left Spyder Talk and moved on to other forums as well so maybe send a response if interested and we can go.

I want to say to those that did ride with me, nothing to do with any stores i had a great time and with no ties to any stores would be willing to do it again.

Of course if i get no replies i will assume i have no friends left in this forum and i will drink my dinner for the next few straight days until my wounds heal.

New Spyder Ryder to Our Family!

We recently acquired an addition to our family here in WA. Her name is Kiddo, and she is as a dedicated SpyderRyder as her "parents".

We took her with us to the Toy Run with Jomion, and now she has her own doggieSpyder carrier in which she will be much more comfortable than in Pats jacket.

She really enjoyed her maiden voyage in it yesterday. She would stay inside, but would pop out when Pat slowed down and at the stoplights. She is tethered inside to her harness,so she can't come shooting out if she gets rambunctious.

She is wearing her spring ensemble of a black sweater with maroon trim, produced by West Casino Homemade Stuff, In Our Apartment, Everett,WA.(In other words, Pat crotcheted it )

Pat is sick today, but the Spyder and Honda are here, so I may pack her(Kiddo) up and take a ride myself.

Oh, and if your curious, Kiddo is a Pomaranian/Shih zue mix. 16 weeks old and a whopping 4 lbs.

Has anyone installed Heli handlebar risers on thier Spyder yet. I am looking at putting a set on mine and was wondering how difficult the install is.

Well when I had the spyder here for a few hours hehehehe, I got a good look under it. There are 2 nice places to run a 12 inch neon light down both sides of the front, easy access to the wiring harness, and one sweet spot at the rear on both sides also to put them. I am planning on putting a blue/white neons under the front and down at the rear wheel. These will be attached to the standard wiring so they will be on all the time. any other lighting add ons others are planning?

I am a Male 45 EXCELLENT RECORD PERFECT.

I have had bikes for years and have all endorsements

For the 1000s of Spyder lovers out there: 1) In excellent shape of course, luggage rack AND custom, easy-on & easy-off, wrap-around back rest for the comfort of yer best-est friend. A wife-endorsed basement price of $175 (Canadian $). Sorry I can't include a photo...too big a file I guess. If interested, let me know and I'll email. 2) BRP touring windshield, complete with side wind deflectors. New, this was over $275 but I am willing, because of my passion for being nice, to offer this for $175. I have increased the height of the windshield with an additional section but it is easily removable if desired. Good in cold weather or just to keep the bugs off. http://www.spydertalk.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/thumbs.gif I have been able to ride the Spyder in very cold wind and even my hands were fairly warm.

Autocom Install using RT Radio

I posted this at another forum also. I'm trying to get help from as many sources as possible. Based on some of the previous posters, this forum is probably the best source for technical help.

I'm picking up my RTS this weekend. It has the full radio package, but not the CB/Intercom package.
I'm stripping my AutoCom off my current bike. It has the ability of coordinating cellphone, CB, MP3 and GPS inputs.
I'd like to use this system on the RT. I don't know if it's possible.
In an ideal world, I'd like to install some type of switch that would change the output of the RTS radio from the speakers into a 3.5 mm jack. I can then plug this jack into the MP3 input of my AutoCom and run the music into my helmet speakers. As I said, the AutoCom will then manage the other inputs for cell GPS and CB. The swich would allow me to choose the radio output to either the included fairing speakers, or the helmet speakers used by the intercom system.
Has anyone done this ? Am I explaining this clearly so it's understandable ?
If no one knows how to do this, does anyone know someone at BRP that I can contact to figure out how to do this ?
I can't be the only one with an AutoCom..............
Thanks in advance for your help.

I know the pics of the trunk on his site are not the real thing, its just carved foam with lights in it thats been painted and set on the back of a spyder. I know by my last talk with him (6 weeks ago), that they hadnt figured out how to mold the trunks and a real one didnt exist. Im afraid he sold them to people (my self included), befor they knew how to make them, and now have run into problems. some one please post some pics of one and prove me wrong!!!

Garmin Zumo 550 Install (pics)

A GPS for Spydie has been on the list, I ordered it from PC Nation as I have purcahsed from them in the past and have had great service. Price was $ 643.80 and included free shipping.

Garmin Zuno 550
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/e1e66ff2.jpg

What is in the box :

Zumo 550

Preloaded City Navigator® NT for North America or Europe (full coverage)

MapSource® City Navigator North America NT DVD or City Navigator Europe NT DVD (full unlock)

Motorcycle mount with mounting hardware

Vehicle suction cup mount with integrated speaker

Dashboard disk

Carrying case

AC charger

Vehicle power cable

Motorcycle power cable

USB cable

Security screwdriver

Custom caps (silver and black)

Garmin stickers

Owner's manual on disk

Quick reference guide

As for the mounting/location of the Zumo, I had decided to do as gusmiami and mount it on the handle bar cover, so I''m not the first to do this and can not take credit for the idea. ;)

Installation

To remove the handle bar cover one meeds to remove the clutch handle/cylinder, and then loosen the throttle housing screws and slide it outwards to insure the cover is free for removal.
This is rather simple to do so no pics of this process.

This is the plastic insert that attached to the bottom side of the handle bar cover. There are 4 - M5 x 10 screws located on the uppder edge and 2 - M6 x 20 screws with washers on the lower edge.
The access to these screws can be rather limited when having the stock handle bar riser. ;)
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/3ebaf0ce.jpg

After the plastic insert is removed, there are 2 - M6 x 16 screws that secure the handle bar cover to the steering clamp bracket, did not get a pic of this, but it is very visible and easy to locate.

Now for the fun part, the ignition switch needs to be removed, which appears to be rather simple. The cables for the trunk and seat need to be removed to gain access to the 2 - M6 x 30 screws which need to be removed.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/ce123cac.jpg

At this time all that is keeping the ignition switch from being removed is the black bezel, this became a minor pain, and as usual the Spyder shop manul was useless. ;)
The manual shows it s simple as holding the lower part of the switch and turning the bezel counter clock wise .... WRONG.

As the pic shows, there are slots and notches.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/05d37dde.jpg

These keep the bezel positioned and "locked" into place, to remove the two side slots need to be pulled outwards so the bezel can be rotated. There is minimal area to work in
and care needs to be taken not to scratch the finish. I found that two round toothpicks did the trick. ;)
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/09140fbe.jpg

Making a template of the Zumo base unit for the location of the holes and drilling them was a bit time consuming, but it worked well.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/8da5694e.jpg

I choose to run the Zumo power cable thru the frame of Spydie and connect directly to the battery since the cable included a 3 amp inline fuse. I used a fish tape to pull the cable thru the frame.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/15f2ca87.jpg

I went the cheap route and because of a time issue, did use the lather and milling machine in the shop to make metal ones. I just picked up four nylon ones at the hardware store for a total of $ 1.10.
Then cut/fitted by hand using the Dremel and emery paper, then sprayed with some silver paint.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/3db00363.jpg

Zumo finished and working.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/4019ee5c.jpg

As for install time, it was not a quick process, but way less expensive than paying to have it installed the way I desired.

New License Light w/ Pictures

That ugly, flimsy plastic black box that contains the license plate light FELL OFF my Spyder a couple weeks ago (thanks Brad for picking it up for me!), and I found out that the OEM replacement cost is $50. Although it *MIGHT* have been covered under my extended warranty, I really did not want to replace a broken piece of cheap plastic with another piece of cheap plastic.

Looked for other options, and came across a black anodized SOLID ALUMINUM license light that contains 3 white LED's offered by EXTREME KEMPY (actually bought through EBAY). When it arrived, I was pleased and impressed with the quality and workmanship - it looks REALLY nice.

Here's what it looks like in the packaging...

Installation takes about 45 minutes, although it would be helpful to have a couple extra hands for this one.

Original license light, held on by electricians tape (uugh)...

Here are the two bolts inside the fender that affix the old license light...
The wire has to be cut to the old license box...

Overall, this is a definite improvement over OEM, and I highly recommend this product. It's rock solid and is a perfect fit for the fender. And there is not a chance that this thing is coming off!

Spy key

I have been having considerable trouble with my 2008 Spy. It goes into Limp Mode all the time and it now is in the agency shop for sorting out. The Spy mechanic that came to my home to reset whatever the BUDS and his lap top computer resets now couldn't do it. But I was told that when I am not using my Spy that I should remove the ignition key and place it away from the Spy at least 32 inches (80 cm) so that the battery doesn't run down. When I would not use my Spy I would keep it in a protected area with an automatic trickle charger on it and I would always leave the key in it in the off position. Has anyone else ever heard of this situation and why this is supposed to be so?

OK, just left the DMV about another matter with my car but anywho..the lady did a look up for me on all private owners of CAN AM Spyders 2008/2009. She would not give me a list for free, cost $100 but there are 139 owners in the state of NC. 100 bucks is not worth it to me to track down each one..lol..but where the hell are you all. I find it odd that there are over 20 in Raleigh area and I never see them. I hear of them all the time, maybe I am not out enough or something. Planning a group ride "with sponsor" here in a few weeks "more details later" and wanted to see how many I could get. My other idea is to email each CANAM dealer and ask for email addresses but have a feeling that would not go over very well.
So, if you are here, chime in and make yourself known. Give me your email address and I will add it to my list. For those in the Raleigh/Greensboro/Goldsboro or even Winston area, I have been in talks with the dealer in Goldsboro on some very sweet discounts for oil changes and priority service. Just need some numbers is all.

Lawson Spyder Muffler for sale

SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD - Thanks!

Hello,

I am selling my Lawson Spyder muffler assembly as I don't require it anymore. Lawson doesn't make a Spyder muffler kit, but this one has been welded to the factory Spyder slip on pipe and the stock heatshield is there as well. It will bolt right onto your Spyder in a matter of minutes. This muffler has a Carbon Fiber and stainless steel shell and has been professionally re-packed with stainless mesh that will not burnout. It has a removable baffle in the end if you would like to make it louder as well. I've been told that its a bit louder than a Hindle as it is, you probably wont need to remove the tunable insert. It also also includes the stock spyder clamp and a gasket.

Asking $125 and this includes shipping to anywhere in the US. Muffler looks great and is in perfect shape... Not bad considering other direct Spyder bolt on's are $600+ bucks!

Please PM if your interested. If I don't get rid of it here or on one of the other Spyder Forums this week, I'll put it up on Ebay.

Clutch upgrades for Spyder coming

Right now Barnett has a 20% stiffer spring upgrade for the Spyder clutch, but in the next 3-4 weeks they will have a full Spring/disc upgrade kit as well. Price on the full kit is supposed to be around $250. I was told by a dealer that estimated labor to install the kit would be around $140 plus oil, gaskets, etc if required.

I would assume the new clutch would add additional resistance to the clutch lever, might be a good idea to look at Evoluziones Clutch slave upgrade kit.

Manual versus sequential gearbox.

My bright red Spyder Se back in the shop (3rd time)to try and sort out the high idling problem.
When coming to a stop, the revs remain high for some time before dropping which means you have to really hold the Spyder with the brake otherwise she wants to take off. ( As if you are tweaking the accelerator). The problem is not consistent and like the occasional back fire on decelerating, comes and goes. So far idle valve has been change and now investigating ECU and fuel pump ?.
Back to original subject. Am I the only owner out there who finds the automatic change down hugely annoying ? Sometimes I really don't want to be in a lower gear whil'st cornering, tooling along in traffic or whenever. Another negative of this feature is that it affects fuel consumtion.
Am sure a number of this forum's esteemed readers will comment that I should have picked this up whilst test riding the Spyder before purchasing. Well, I didn't. Now looking to test ride a manual and probably switch. If any other SE owners share my annoyance, I would be pleased to hear.

I haven't been on the forums much because I've just been working on my Spyder. Well, you might not recognize it as a Spyder now, but please check it out.

While it's not quite complete, I decided to show it off at this stage because I entered the eBay Motors Master contest.

Check out my entry and please vote 5 stars if you like it.
For those who love the Spyder as it is, you might not want to click through.

I should have the bodywork done in the next month or so. I've got over 1000 pics of the build, but this is the latest and most relevant. Kudos to anyone who gets the interweb reference...
The Spyder roadster is not a traditional motorcycle and we truly believe

Spyder training in Florida

I just bought my wife a Spyder. I figured it would be easy for her to pass the motorcycle test on a three-wheeler, but Florida now REQUIRES that you take a motorcycle safety test. That's fine -- but most of the stuff they teach you in the classes doesn't pertain to the Spyder, and most companies require that you use their motorcycles.

Can anyone recommend a company that trains on 3-wheelers? The closer to Stuart (about 30 miles north of West Palm Beach), the better.

BRP 12-V Power Outlet Install (pics)

12-V Power Outlet Kit

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/32b5799e.jpg

In my opinion the instructions are easy to understand, and includes a template for location of the hole.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/e0c046cb.jpg

When cutting out the template, be sure to cut it correctly and exact, a slight variation of the template can cause issues
when installing the outlet.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/4bb38e6c.jpg

A hole saw works well, one can use a dremel or similar tool.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/43a8a7a9.jpg

Outlet installed and ready for replacing the trunk onto the Spyder. The wire harness is located on the Spyder and includes a
boot to keep moisture out.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/39453065.jpg

The outlet in place without the trunk liner.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/616f2ff9.jpg

The outlet with trunk liner.
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/eb75d681.jpg

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/49491b8a.jpg

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd25/tharkun650/Spyder/0e344d89.jpg

Installation of the outlet requires the removal of the trunk, as for time it can take 1 to 2 hours, dependent upon if you have prior experience in removal/installation of the trunk.
Basic tools and a tool for drilling/cutting of the hole is all that is required. Also verify that there is a fuse installed in the fuse box, have seen some Spyders not have the fuse in place from the factory.

If you intend on installing th BRP trunk liner, do that well installing the power outlet. When using the liner, the power outlet needs to be inserted thru the provided opening in the liner. In the past I had read where a few members had an issue of not being able to access the outlet easily after the liner was installed by a dealer. Reason being, the dealer took the easy install and did not do it properly.

I have tried Mark Madstad three times this week after he replied my email. I even called him and no answer so I left message but he never returned so I went by the dealer today and their price was same as Mark so it is just matter of who can get me one by Saturday next week.

Mirror Extenders

Okay all you Spyder Gurus out there, I need some helpful suggestions to resolve a problem with my mirrors. I couldn't see behind me (for changing lanes etc.) as well as I wished to so I purchased a nice of Mirror Extenders developed for the Spyder. Now they resolved my viewing problem, but no matter how I have tried to tighten them up to stay in place the wind just keeps folding them back toward me while clipping along. I have contemplated wrapping the bolt threads with teflon tape or applying blue loc-tite on them or both then screw them down tight to get the mirrors to stay in place, but thought I would pick other Spyder Riders' brains (especially those who have mirror extenders also) to see if anyone else has encountered the same problem and how he or she resolved the problem. I will look for responses here, but I would appreciate an email also at polardawn@hotmail.com with the subject "Spyder Mirror Resolution". Thanks in advance.

Is it a bad Digital speedo or is it the cold weather hampering the readout on 2008 GS model.
Right now highest 40 degrees and I am hoping it is temperature why I am not reading

Another question is do you get use to the high RPM's going down the road at 65 to 75 mph
at 5500 6500 RPM's.
It just seems real high after riding other bikes and never hearing engine reving like Spyder.
He has found some updated relay’s for the Spyder that are more dependable than the OEM relay’s. He pointed out that there are extra fuses for the fuse box. I knew about and have had to use a couple of them already. While talking with him I realized I still haven’t put them back. That is one reason I would like to have another set on the Spyder. He also pointed out that there are 3 other fuses under the seat. I was not aware of that, but I am sure it is in the manual. But there are no extra fuses for those three and no extra relays.
He will be getting the new relays and after testing those out he will have them on his site. I am hoping that a lot of you who are mechanically challenged like I am would also want a complete set of fuses with relays.
As the conversation went on he told me that he had put on a few meetings where he showed riders how to do some of the simple maintenance that was needed to be done. This class went as far as to show how to check and adjust values. Now I know a lot of you know how to change oil but even something like that there are tricks and tips that can make it even easier.
So I asked him to do another one. He agreed to do it but wanted feedback from you all on what would be the things that you all would like to learn.
So if you would please post on this link what things you would like to know how to do and I will collect those request and sort them in list according to amount of request per item example correct way to change oil or remove rear tire so you can take it to a shop and have new rubber put on it. Whatever things you would like to know how to do.
At the end of February I will send the list to Ken and see what he comes up with. For those of you who don’t know Ken is in Murrieta, California 92562. So if you are interested let me know.
Thank you,

The Riding ownership of GS for 3 weeks in NJ

Any one who wants to know about Can Am can not know by few mile test ride from dealership.
I bought 2008 GS just for testing and to see if wife and I like it vs BMW 1200Rt or Harley Hertiage Springer.
And told wife if we like Can Am we would probably have to give up one of the others..
Not sure I can say or do that with riding Can Am for the 3 weeks so far.
The response from riding Can Am are a WoW! Never would I have guessed that people almost caused accidents
to just let you pass them and see what is coming up in their mirrors.
Like 2 wheel motorcycles the Can Am is pretty tough when you ride 2 up and pushing it through corners.
I would really say honestly that Can Am takes more muscle and more thoughts driving than 2 wheel bikes.
Corners that I take on 2 wheeled bikes at 42 to 48 mph I am taking on Can Am approx 33 mph..
This is with front suspension set at 3 and thinking of adding a sway bar to just see how much more I can get
from Can Am with the corners.
With it being 30 to 45 degrees in NJ with the riding I have done it has been Ok to drive most part and feel the
warmer weather may give me a more satisfied riding pleasure.
The one thing I really do not like is the reving of this Can Am yikes.
Going down interstate at 70mph and it is reving 5000 to 5500 rpm..yikes
I hope in time if we keep it I get use to that all long rides ..
I did install F-1 windshield and will say it improved the ride and installed 4" bar risers from Custom Dynamics and
this improved the feel on steering.
I in my case still feel like I want to move bars back another 1 1/2 to 2 inches more for better comfort and control.
I will say with the way I have riden 2 wheel motorcycles in past and that is with pushing all my bikes into corners
and maybe to fast for areas of NJ that I live in that maybe the Can Am is for me and to slow me down some for future rides.
So this is my take of Can Am vs the 2 wheelers for the time I have owned it in cold and damp NJ..
Any comments would like to hear from others on issues..thanks joe

air bubbles in oil

have you ever heard of air bubbles in your oilor frothy oil. when I checked my oil after the oil light stayed on it looked to me like there was fine dust in it. I don't know what else to call it but thats what it looked like. I felt it and I can't say that I felt anything but at the same time it was very fine.
The shop called today and said that my oil light or oil pressure sensor was bad and what I had seen was air bubbles. never have seen that in 50 years of checking oil in cars, truck, or anything I can think of. I do now I have looked closely at the oil on the dip stick on a lot of things but the only time I checked the oil on the Spyder was after a long trip.

I always check the tire pressure before leaving on a long trip they reported today that one tire had 22psi and the other 28psi. before I left for San Francisco I checked it and it was 21 and 22. I keep the tire pressure at between 20 and 22 psi.

just wondering what you all think about the oil.
