We have to admit that the idea of moving our annual SpyderTalk Rally from the Smoky mountains to New York's Adirondacks left us with a bit of an uneasy feeling. Being based in New York State, we knew the Adirondacks offered great riding, through great towns, filled with great people...but would the SpyderTalk faithful want to follow us north? The answer...YES!!!
About 150 Spyder ryders and passengers invaded the Adirondacks in typical Spyder fashion. The opening day started at the Tail O' The Pup Barbeque between the towns of Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. Despite the planned 1PM check-in time, ryders showed up earlier that morning and by the time registration opened, there was a parking lot full of Spyders. Ryders spent most of the day there, checking out all the mods people had done, shopping at the BRP trailer, enjoying great Barbeque, and listening to a live band.
Friday morning started out at Howard Johnson's restaurant in Lake Placid. This HoJo's is only one of three in existence, and they put on a great spread. After breakfast, ryders hit the road to take a loop through some of the Adirondack's great roads for our first annual Poker Run. Ryders collected poker chips at the ten businesses on the route. Despite some very heavy rains, many ryders ended up collecting all ten chips along with some great stories of where they ate, who they met, and how they attempted to stay dry. Roberts Sports Center offered hots and hams at their dealerships throughout the day along with great service for all rally attendees.
Saturday morning greeted ryders with bright sun and blue skies for the ride from Lake Placid up to the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino for the Spyder Cruise-In, Barbeque, and Awards Ceremony. We had a large tent setup offering a stage, music, and some goodies for all Spydertalkers--including some 'free cash' for ryders to try their luck in the casino. The BRP trailer was set-up all day offering great deals on Spyder clothing and accessories. During the cruise-in, there was a lot of action at the Poker Table where ryders turned in their chips to draw their hands for the poker run. After a great chicken Barbeque, we started up the awards ceremony, giving away thousands of dollars of prizes. Along with the raffle drawings, awards were given for ryders that rode the furthest, have the most miles on their spyder, had the best custom, and more.
And if all the smiles did not let us know that this year's event was a huge success, we had no doubt once ryders started asking us for the dates for next year's Spyders In The Adirondacks rally. We want to give a big thank you to BRP, Roberts Sports Center, the Lake Placid Howard Johnson's, Tail O'The Pup Barbeque, the Akwesasnse Mohawk Casino, Foremost Insurance, ISCI and all the businesses that handed out chips on our poker run. We especially want to thank all the SpyderTalkers that came to this year's event and reminded us just how great the Spyder Ryding community is....it's one big family that we are very proud to be a part of.
